Volvo have swapped out the B3 for the B4 with a lower AP of £2,499

On my handover last week, the salesman doing the handover (which was excellent) said that the B4 is a bit of a gas guzzler.  He reckons it will get 10mpg less than the B3.  Just thought I’d mention it.

Got news of an XC40 ordered (Edinburgh) in 1st week of February and it is being delivered on 22 July.

I had a B Class until the other day.  I would regularly get 40+ in city driving in the spring/summer.  Their 1300 engines seem to be very fuel efficient and give you the speed (130mph) when you need it.

Wonder what the XC40 will give me.

Took delivery of my XC40 yesterday (ordered 10th Jan 2024).

Car that was delivered was wrong colour.

Was told the previous day by my salesman that if I refused the car it would be a new order and I would have to pay the upgraded AP.   Unfortunately, the salesman obviously wasn’t aware of the Consumer Rights Act 2015, so was wrong.

The reason I accepted it was that I didn’t want a 4-6 month wait which the salesman told me was the current position.

The handover was excellent.  My salesman was on holiday and another stood in.  It was one of the best handovers I have ever had.  Detailed, everything explained and all questions answered clearly.

I got the Fjord Blue but ordered the Cloud Blue.  My opinion is the the Fjord Blue and the Green are the ugliest colours.  Many disagree with me.

I will be making a formal complaint to Volvo.

Picked up our XC40 today less than three months after ordering. Great car, great service. Zero complaints! Well done Volvo, well done Motability (as always)!

Hmmm.  Seems to be an outlier.  Orders for January and February are only now being built.

Just got told that one MY24 XC40 ordered on 5th January can be picked up next Tuesday, 1th June. Not sure if it is MY24 or 25.

Got information on another XC40, exact same dealership (Edinburgh) – ordered 5 days later on 10th January. “Car Build date is the 13/06/2024 and the planned dealer delivery date is the 26/04/2024. Once the car arrives i will give you a call to organize a hand over date.” A telephone call corrected the delivery date to 26/6/24

So, first car ordered on 5th January delivered and picked up on 11th June. Second car ordered from same dealership on 10th January still for build today (13/6/24) and delivery 26/6/24.

The second Car ordered (10th Jan) had its build date on 13/6/24 and arrived yesterday at the dealership, 5 days early.  I’m picking it up on Tuesday.

Unfortunately, after a lot checking back through the Motability and Volvo orders, it seems the salesman ordered a Fjord Blue version when I said I wanted a Cloud Blue version.  I’m a bit gutted because the two colours Volvo have and I really don’t like are Fjord Blue and the Green they have.

I’m just going to accept the car as I presume it will be a new order if I don’t.

When I placed the order I received no paperwork at all.  If they had given me a copy of the order with the specs, I would have noticed it immediately and had it changed.

Hi everyone I have been following for few months now with great interest. I ordered my Volvo xc 40 2/01/2024 I have had no contact from dealer since order patiently waiting. Decided to ring today, salesman said I will check for update came back and said it arrived last week when do you want to pick up. Shocked to say the least. It’s a my25 with factory tints that’s what he told me. I will update on Thursday if all is true.

That’s just awful customer service.  I’d make a formal complaint to not only the dealership’s principals but also to Volvo.

Does anyone know if the AP will be changing in July? Not sure whether to order one now or wait in the hope the AP cost goes down?

It’s just a guess, and we’ll find out in July, but I think that the price shot up so much because they had a huge backlog and was intentionally very high to discourage new orders.  It seems they are now getting through the backlog and dealerships have visibility on orders so I would wait till July.

When the XC40 was first released and came on to Motability the AP was $2999 because the interest was huge.   Within a year that had dropped to around £6/7/899 and later when the initial rush was over dealerships were giving deals where they paid part of the AP.  If I’m not wrong, I think Paul Rigby Volvo in Birmingham were paying all the AP at one stage.  I remember keeping an eye on them at the time.

the engine only being a 1.3 is a bit off putting, the Volvo is 2.0 but like I said I’ll see how she drives

I’ve had the 1.3 engine in my B Class for the last 4 years.  It’s really good.  Max speed is 130mph.  I’ve been getting an average of 42.2 mpg using city driving, bypass and motorway driving.

Hmm 🤔 to be honest UncJ because there are other cars we can access quicker I’m sure it wouldn’t become an issue to them, I thought why have the media (Tv/Newspapers) not got hold of it and the problems with the cars stuck in front of them… It’s just not big news is it! But getting your lips and boobs done and being called Katie P is headline news LOLZ

I’m looking into this at present.  I might have more news around Tuesday or Wednesday.

Hi, all fellow xc40 sufferers! Just had this email from my dealership. Sorry I have not been in contact but I currently have no good news to give. We have no way of tracking the order and I have not been given any updates in regards to the delivery. I appreciate your situation and if you need to find a dealer that can supply a car to you quickly, I will completely understand. Motability have currently removed Volvo as a brand from its offering because of this situation and the dealers not being able to check order progress etc so I believe it is something that is being worked on. Please let me know your thoughts. I will let you know once it has arrived so that we can work on getting it to you in a timely manner. So no news! Grrrrrrr 4th Dec ordered -Petrol

then it’s probably down to the massive batch of electric EX30’s that were dumped there off a boat from China some weeks ago that the port authorities have complained about. It was reported in Forbes magazine, said as milk float sales were down everywhere and the cars were not orders Volvo had just dumped them there in front of existing ordered cars. Volvo gambled big and made lots of cars that very few people now actually want.

                                              “Hi John

Just letting you know i still do not have a confirmed dealer delivery date for your order. As soon as i here anything i will give you a call or e-mail with any dates i might recieve.

                                              Kind Regards”

I know of another Motability order at the same dealership on January 10th and no news either.

I got a long winded letter – that didn’t actually say anything of substance – in the post from Belfast Volvo yesterday. Will try come back here and post pic of it later but basically it said thanks for order, they are here to support during new car journey but that they can’t guarantee delivery times….so I strongly suspect (as we all have done) that my mid May delivery time is not happening….totally unprecedented to get a letter like that.

                                                What date did you order?

Hi Everyone, I originally placed my order the 1st week in December. When I noticed the AP decrease at the beginning of January I made contact with my dealer who stated a new order would have to be made regardless of the fact I wasn’t changing anything. The new order went through in the second week of January. I have just spoken to him and sadly for me he’s stating he has no visibility of my order. However he did say he’s making contact with his customers who ordered there’s at the beginning of December. I’m based in Scotland.

I know of three orders that went into Edinburgh on the 10th, and 15th of January and the other at the beginning of February.   Nobody from the January ones has heard anything.  The person from the February one is in hospital at the moment so I don’t expect to hear from them.
