Hi, not new to the forum but cannot recall username or password so have registered again! The forum is as always forever helpful.

Ive just signed up for a Volvo xc40 petrol automatic soft hybrid in Pearl white after a great test drive and excellent service from ‘Ben’ at Crawley showroom. Was a little tempted by the pale blue but it seemed a little too flat for me and I always love white! Felt very informed, valued and happy with our choice. May date given but I’m not banking on that but was assured to contact him anytime for updates. Seamless application accompanied by coffees.
Currently have a Peugeot 3008 and will be happy to wave it goodbye but my other half not as much so! ?

Thanks @jOhn @nshaw. No, no name. I could call it “sipper” I guess as we’ve gone up to Lincolnshire on hols for a few days and incredibly the car did 59 mpg to get up here. I’d heard so many stories from members on here saying they drank petrol for fun but it’s been superb, getting a minimum of 42 mpg even just doing short journeys. Reckon it must be the new mild hybrid stuff recently added to these. Hope you get your car soon @nshaw , it’s been a long, hard road. 😕

UncJ – If I ever collect my Volvo I’ll be sure to tell Steve you are happily driving your Mercedes 😂 !! His loss

I had a B Class until the other day.  I would regularly get 40+ in city driving in the spring/summer.  Their 1300 engines seem to be very fuel efficient and give you the speed (130mph) when you need it.

Wonder what the XC40 will give me.

@UncJ Oooo she’s a beaut! My father in law has the same, he swears by Merc and will never drive anything else. Happy driving, we’ve been to Lincolnshire on a camping trip, really nice place!

@nshaw yes the end is near for us after a hard slog, I too am just waiting for the call now to collect, as it’s here somewhere in the UK 😂 I didn’t get the Vista screen shot this time but I’m assuming it’s the colour I ordered etc, fabulous they removed your £750 and quite rightly so, keep us updated on your collection day. I’m actually thinking he will call tomorrow to say it’s at the dealer as it’s his day off today, which will mean I can collect next week when they’ve registered it etc, which is a good week for me to collect, not a lot of appointments etc.

I nearly gave up so many times and nearly told them to forget it, I thought the day would never come! I’m glad I persevered, but I just will never understand where the original December orders the MY24’s disappeared too!!

    Great news Steph …finally!! 😄

As Volvo are so useless make sure to remind your dealer about the 4 day rule. I.e. – A confirmed handover date must be at least 4 days after setting it. Otherwise it might delay you getting the car unless he sets a date with you at the earliest possible moment.

Ive emailed him asking if I can collect Friday as I have a lot of medical appointments this coming week, I didn’t know about a 4 day rule, I’ll double check this when he calls or emails make sure it’s done properly thank you UncJ ☺️

    Hi All

Glad the card are finally filtering through, can I ask please what is the four day rule?

No worries. Yeah, the 4 day rule always applies as it then allows Motability the time needed to get all the documentation sorted etc before you collect your car. If it hadn’t been for that I could have collected mine from the dealer in just 8 days from ordering.

See my reply to Steph just below your post.

Basically let’s say your car arrives at dealers tomorrow on Monday. The dealer then has to make an appointment with you to collect your car, handover. Once that dealer makes that confirmed collection date it cannot be any sooner than 4 days away so that Motability can do all they need to do with documentation etc at their end. So – if dealer were to make the appointment with you the day the car arrived at the dealers, Monday, you cannot collect the car for handover any earlier than Friday.

Hope I’ve explained that ok. 😊

That’s great, thank you for explaining the rule.

Volvo have swapped out the B3 for the B4 with a lower AP of £2,499

On my handover last week, the salesman doing the handover (which was excellent) said that the B4 is a bit of a gas guzzler.  He reckons it will get 10mpg less than the B3.  Just thought I’d mention it.

Gas guzzlers not a problem. Used to them having land rovers all my life. However can’t see many people cancelling and going for the B4 without a trim level change. Unless they want to save £1k

From a cursory glance at the 1st July prices does this now seem to be pound for pound the best value for money SUV option out there ?

is that a fair reading ?

that or the VW id4 ?

My understanding is that the B3 and B4 now share a 2 litre engine, just in different states of tune, so  I doubt there’d be a huge difference.

Admittedly I had a T4 in the days that the T3 had a 1.5 engine and 3 cylinders, so there would have been a noticeable difference.

The T4 was a thirsty engine, over 4 years we only managed 34 mpg overall, with low 40s achievable on a run but mid 20s around town

    2020 - Volvo XC40 T4 Inscription

Only difference between B3 & B4 is the mapping of the engine. Both exactly the same 2.0 engine using exactly the same components. I highly doubt if the fuel consumption of the B4 is significantly worse than the B3. All depends on your right foot really. 😜

Most car makers use this gimmick these days with bhp making it look like you’re getting a different engine. If you were allowed to do this on Motability (you’re not, obviously) all you’d have to do is add a tuning box to obtain the higher bhp output & acceleration etc for relative peanuts.

So does anyone actually have true mpg reading for a B4?

So does anyone actually have true mpg reading for a B4?

    42.7 vs 42.1 mpg wltp

    150 vs 152 g/km emissions wltp

There probabably won’t be alot in it in real term’s, given the additional bit of bhp & torque with the B4, it will help moving along the road with less rev’s however, I’d expect economy to be low to mid 30’s, to low 40’s for both models in the real worls depending on how heavy your right foot is and journey taken..

Also take into consderation the lower AP for the B4, when working out running costs.

    Appreciate the response.

I do a lot of motorway miles, and my Tiguan currently returns up to 55 mpg on a run. Mixed driving it’s about 45.

We can look for a new car now, was holding out for the new Tiguan, but might consider the XC40
