Great to hear it’s working for you.  Also good to know its limitations.

Did you have any problem with the council or were they not even contacted?  Have read somewhere that they are in contact with Motability, it would be good if Motability helped with the cost.

Take pic’s or a video around the car on collection and return and also a pic showing the fuel guage reading full when you return the car!

        Best advice ever.

          Have a look at KerboCharge:

          https://www.kerbocharge.com/

I’m sure someone in here said they were in contact with Motability.

MACS (Mobility & Access Committee for Scotland – https://www.transport.gov.scot/our-approach/accessible-transport/mobility-and-access-committee-for-scotland-macs/) created quite a stink about the 10.1 increase last year.  They wrote to various bodies about it including Motability.   I asked for sight of the replies so I could see what reasons were given and have been fobbed off for months, the last one being that the Chair had to decide whether to release the replies.

If I don’t get a reasonable reply next week, I’ll put in a FOI request.

I have used this in the past.  It’s very good.   It used to be an annual amount of about £13 I think.  Price has gone up now.  Could be worth it for some.

For those of us who ordered in January do you think we will get a MY24 car or MY25 with upgraded seats and blind spot assistance ? I am in two minds whether to cancel or re-order as I am not in a hurry for mine .

I agree with @Uncj – you will get the car that you ordered and that would have been a MY24.

                  FYI:
Just received a video message from the Volvo Dealership. They now say the expected arrival of the vehicle ordered on 15/1/2004 will be late April to end of May. That’s pushed back slightly from late April/Early May.

was told the next working day that VW UK have changed the way they allow Motability orders, and they can no longer reserve retail stock for Motability.

If this is true, I suspect, unless Motability’s contract with the manufacturers stipulates a treatment for their customers that is not equal, that this could very well breach the Equality Act 2010.

                        DL are “”abysmal” – apparently… https://www.insurancebusinessmag.com/uk/news/breaking-news/direct-line-regroups-amid-another-potential-takeover-attempt-480549.aspx

                        That is awful @tomthumb.

I’m sure I heard in the last week or so on LBC News that they were holding out for a figure of £4b.

I’d have thought that Motability Ops would have done some ultra serious due dilligence before getting into bed with them.  Reading that article and hearing @tomthumb’s story is a bit frightening because my experience of the taxi card they give you on a breakdown is really bad.  Most taxi’s took at least an hour to come and when I questioned with the driver why it took so long he said that they got such a low payment for the Motability jobs, that most drivers just ignored them.

I remember reading the House of Lords report into Motability a few years ago and if memory serves, I’m sure that Motability did a chunk of the underwriting themselves, together with RSAM.   They make enought profits, it was over £400m last year and almost £1b the year before.

Would be good to hear any other experiences and hopefully the one above is the exception.

Now I’ve found the info over there pretty accurate since I’ve started following it but I’m hoping this info is false, but .. somehow I really don’t think it is. I’m just hoping that anyone who has ordered a MY24 car has had the car built because otherwise, and I’m in this category myself, it really doesn’t look good. Getting any info from official Volvo sources & honest updates from dealers is in short supply as we know. ☹️🤨

According to the website, the estimated delivery was 3-6 months when I ordered on Jan 20.  It later went to 5-7 months in February and I notice today it has now come down to 4-6 months.   Going by these estimates, the delivery estimates seem to be now coming down.

Who knows!  Certainly the dealership I ordered with seems to be very bad at supplying information.

I ordered my XC40 mild hybrid early January 2024, advised via email yesterday, still on track for early/mid April 2024.

                            Hopefully, that’s good news @Sunflower12.

A friend who ordered on Jan 15 was told last week that it was on track for late April or early May.  I ordered on Jan 20 (same dealership different salesperson) and have heard nothing.

Glad it’s been OK for you John David, my car in for serviceparked mile from dealership could be as they have building work going on so need temporary hanger space.

I think it is down to the dealership, but I haven’t had to contact Mercedes corporate customer service.

I’m documenting in detail my Volvo journey before taking it further if required, but I shouldn’t have to.

Interestingly, I even mentioned in an email yesterday that:

“We appreciate that we are only Motability customers and not as profitable to the dealership as a normal retail customer and therefore like many other Motability users, we don’t expect the same customer service experience as the more profitable retail customer.  In furtherance of this and to allow ample time for your response, I usually wait at least a week before sending a reminder email, although my xxxx asks me several times every day whether a reply has arrived.”

In her reply, she never even denied that this was the case.

I must say, I have had the total opposite experience with Mercedes Edinburgh East.

I have a B180 which I got because it is higher off the ground than the A Class’ for easier and less painful ingress/egress and has pretty much the same interior room as the C Class’.  It has been an amazing car and they have been amazing throughout the lease.

I have never had to contact anyone except the dealership for services and MOTs.   I got it about a week before the first lockdown.  When they call me up to book services, they know I am a Motability customer and ask If I want it picked up and delivered back.  If not, they initially said I would get an A Class as a courtesy car.  I asked them if they had another B Class or SUV type that was higher off the ground – that was only the first time because each time after that when they called they would know and tell me I was what car I was getting because of my needs.  The courtesy cars varied from GLAs and GLCs.

A few months ago the engine light came on and I called them up to book it in.  After I gave them the Reg No, they said they would send a tech out to my house that afternoon to check and fix it because I was a Motability customer.  He came, checked the car, and said it needed a software update and he would arrange to have it booked in and to call again if the light turned red.   Two days later they called me up to say they were delivering a courtesy car and would pick up my car to go to the workshop the next day.  They then fixed the car brought it back and took away the courtesy car.

When the three years ran out on the tech services the car came with, I never renewed because it was £379.  I didn’t think it was worth it.  When it went for its next service and I picked the car up, they told me they had renewed the services for a year on the house as I was a Motability customer.

I currently have a Volvo XC40 on order and the Volvo Sales Executive is already lying through her teeth in emails – it looks as though my journey with my local Volvo dealership will be similar to yours with your Mercedes dealership, which is worrisome.

I ordered a new Volvo XC40 last month.  The website said between 3 & 6 months, and the salesman said the same.  I asked him how long in his recent experience were they taking, he said about 4 months.  I said “I better plan for 6 months” and he agreed.

I mentioned he was extremely quick to change his timing.  He didn’t look happy.

Assuming this is a Motability car you should speak to Motability.  They should not be charging you anything, they should be charging Motability.

In the same update they also removed the 360 degree cameras in that spec, I believe.

Had a Qashqai Tekna as my last motability car.  The glass roof is worth having – keeps light in the back of the car.

It was OK.  Nothing special at all.  The seats were not great.

You might want to look at the Volvo XC40 if you can wait about 6 months for delivery.  The AP is around the same as the e-power with a lot of included gadgets. A lot more comfortable and pretty much the same size in the back and front seats.

I have looked at alternative vehicles, but cannot find anything that better suits my needs, that is Petrol and with a sensible AP for the same specification of the XC40.

                                                  – Do you mind if I tweet an anonymised screenshot of your post to the Head of Press at Volvo.  I am 99% certain it breaches the Equality Act 2010 as it is discrimination arising from disability. Volvo have now switched to the ‘agency’ model so it is Volvo who seem to be responsible.  Emailed someone for confirmation that my thinking is correct.  We shouldn’t be treated as scum by dealerships because there is a negotiated price for our vehicles – it’s the same for fleet vehicles and there is no downside for fleets.

Every single person who is a Motability customer is a disabled person or a appointee for a disabled person.

Agree the Bristol thread is alarming, I also advised someone in my patient group to look at the XC40 which they ordered at a delaership yesterday and was told delivery would be in June.

I ordered a couple of weeks ago as was told between 3 and 6 months but probably would arrive in 4.  I just accepted it would be six months and if it comes quicker, that’s fine.
