I think everyone is slowly being forced off the roads and Motability customers are easily priced out of motoring. By 2030+ the price of cars, insurance, road tax, fuel and electric will be prohibitive for all but the wealthy.

        XC40 now £3199 AP.

8 months ago it was £1500.

I do wonder what if anything will be affordable when my lease expires. Plus I’ve long since lost my no claims bonus since being on the scheme so I would struggle to afford running a private car now.

I’ve never had more than a 15 minute ‘spin’ in any car I’ve ended up buying. I envy these people who have 24hr loans of cars!

My present car has awfully uncomfortable seats that I didn’t pick up on after such a short test drive.

Seems an awful chore. If I haven’t had my benefits taken off me and given to an illegal by the time I’m next due a car then I’ll have a look when it’s time to get one.

No doubt everything will be electric and the APs will be ludicrous but I live in hope…

Wow, I’m amazed that some people would take delivery of a brand new car and use it for 3 years without buying some mats.  I ask when ordering and even then only one dealer has ever thrown them in for free. They almost always say that they will be charged for unless the manufacturer includes them (which they very rarely do.) The Audi mats I bought were around £80 and the VW mats were £70. Sure you could cheap-out and buy some spurious ones online for twenty quid but I like to fit the proper OEM mats.

Motability should insist that dealers fit mats as surely worn & filthy carpets will impact on the price they achieve at auction once the lease is finished.

Does the EX30 have the same über cheap & nasty carpet that the XC40 has? It’s like felt and wears extremely quickly.

That iPad glued to the centre of the dashboard lets loads of cars down. I hate that look. With Volvo putting the speedo on the top of the iPad in tiny font would be a dealbreaker for me.

I had to buy mats for my Audi and VW. I got some with my Volvo. They are usually an extra.

£8k APs and talk of buying £40k used cars. All above my pay grade. Ah well, back to hospital I go…

Book a courtesy car and then drop yours off late morning to collect the next day. That’s what I do. Avoids all the early morning traffic.

People saying that Motabiliity cars won’t be taken off anyone are missing the point. If my daily living component is taken off me then I’ll have to hand my car back in order to use the mobility money for daily living!

People in the Mail comments section saying that they know people with Porsche and Range Rover vehicles “free” from the govt and there’s “nothing wrong with them.”

Then these posts are upvoted despite being lies. Nobody gets Porsche and Range Rover vehicles on Motability and I’m sick of seeing comments making out that everyone is perfectly able to work blah blah blah. Also that blue badges are given out like sweets. It raises my blood pressure reading this cr@p!

It isn’t just the car being taken away it’s the rest of the disability benefit plus the increased rate ESA. Many people don’t have wealthy families or savings to fall back on and are completely unable to work even in the unlikely event that an employer would give a job to someone who hasn’t worked for 20 years!

There will be mass suicides by people who have no income and no means of getting one. Their lives will become untenable. What a government! They would rather plough billions into net zero and supporting illegals than looking after their own people. I can’t be the only one worried to death right now.

The thing is, if all we could get were Invacars we would spend the PIP money on buying and running our own cars. The taxpayer would still be spending exactly the same amount on disability benefits. It’s all a jealousy thing. They want a shiny new car but would they want the disability or longterm illness that goes along with it?

Unless you have a limp the great unwashed think you don’t deserve a Motability car…although they would be happy if you got an old Invacar. It’s all borne out of jealousy.

My dealer seemed to be doing well with Motability customers as well. Hopefully you’ll get lucky and they’ll give you the MY26. Just be wary of the over enthusiastic auto braking when you’re in reverse. It’s so violent that when it’s gone off I’ve been convinced I’ve hit something despite being nowhere close to anything, yesterday I was a good 4 feet away from the barrier in the car park when it went off and it really jolts your back, it even hurt my peak of fitness son!

Thanks @Ruby2002 – good advice on the reverse auto braking. My wife suffers from a bad back and being jolted in a car is painful for her- this was one of the reasons we got a bigger safer car. Will have to be careful when reversing. The salesman said today the MY26 car won’t be coming till later this year so I have got the MY25. Hopefully the software update will be free for ACC to be turned on. If not, I’ll do without it.

If your wife has a bad back then the reversing issues will be the very least of your problems. The XC40 has the worst suspension of any car I can remember owning. It bounces all over the place on uneven roads and the lateral wobbling does my back in no end.

The car has all the Pilot Assist hardware on board but it is switched off via software. Bit tight of Volvo to not switch it on for those with late 2024 cars onwards.

The PIP mobility weekly amount is £75.75 or £328.25 per month and this is what you will be paying for your car once it arrives. So….you can save up that amount before you get your car in order to afford the AP.

That’s what I and countless others do. Sure I’d love to get a posh car with a £4k AP but I can’t afford anything like that. My last AP was £750 and the one before it £1k. That’s about my budget and it takes a fair bit of scrimping to save it up.

Can any of us truly afford to pay an AP? I know that I can’t. I have no savings and am on benefits. However we do get full PIP or else how would we be entitled to a Motability car in the first place?

People who need adaptations and have genuine special needs etc are excluded from my rant but otherwise I do not see the issue in a) selecting a car which has an AP you can realistically save up for and b) saving up for it….

Every car ive had on motorbility since 2001, i test drive before order and really test drive on collection day, which to me is far more important due to that being the car i will have for 3years.Surpsies me that people test drive then order ,then look round it on collection day but dontt re test drive it.

So you would order a car, get the dealer to register it, PDI it and plate it up….then on collection day demand to take it for a spin before signing for it? Crikey.

You really must take some responsibility. I research the heck out of my future cars and sometimes I still get it wrong but that’s on me. My present car hasn’t got ACC and I thought regular CC would be OK. I hate it but I have got used to it. If someone needs overhead parking instrumentation and 360° cameras then I would question their ability to drive. How have you managed without this feature previously as it is a relatively new thing? The same goes for the blind spot warning. Only my present car has ever had that and I got along just fine without it for several decades.

If you absolutely need electric seats then you should make sure that any cat has got them before signing up for it. All I can say is that 3 years passes very quickly and you will soon be looking for a new car!
