Hi all, as anyone got a ex30? It’s a contender to be my next lease along with the Cupra Born. Unfortunately my local dealer hasn’t got one too view or test or so he says, I must remember in the future not to tell them its a Motability lease first thing. I love the outside look of it but I’m a little unsure about the interior, with a lot of functions via the centre screen. If anybody as got one and can share their experience I would appreciate it.

Hi I’ve had the EX30 for the past eight months, don’t get too confused by the screen menu as several function can be operated via voice commands when driving so you don’t have to be distracted whilst driving.

That’s good to hear about the voice commands, the only thing that I would struggle with is the lack of head up display and having the speedo in the centre, saying that my old 1963 series landrover as the speedo dial in the centre and I cope with that but it’s quite a lot slower.
I’ve a Nissan Ariya at the mo and to be honest it drives like a barge, steering is quite vague, so how are you finding the Volvo handling ?
The lack of speedo, to be honest it becomes second nature after the first drive and has never bothered me.
The handling I find really good, so far the grip has been outstanding even in the wet. The suspension is good, you can also adjust the steering resistance varying depending on your needs.
The parking assist is really good not that I have used it much apart from trying it out when first received the car.
Thank you, its seems well worth a trip out to view and test drive. I’ve even found a dealer who as one in the show room.
It was on my list and was offered a test drive. I sat in it and in my opinion it felt really cheap and as I then knew I definitely wouldn’t order one, I politely declined the test drive. The salesman explained that it was because of all the recycled materials (why it looked and felt cheap), but I’ve been in a few other cars that have lots of recycled materials and they’ve felt and looked fine.
I’d strongly advise you to go have a look and feel no matter how far you need to travel.
Took a V60 for a test run and that was great. Heart is saying V60, head is saying Sportage GTLS PHEV.
Agree on the recycling material however that seems the way a lot of manufacturers are now going, I believe they used recycled double glazing frames because that material is better at UV resistance.
Obviously we all have different tastes/ requirements, for me the overall experience now that the latest software removed most if not all of the initial bugs and with the new release (coming soon) giving an optional ‘Eco’ mode too Volvo are now on the ball with this vehicle.
I’ve done a few long distance trips in the EX30 and found the overall ‘comfort’ better than a few others cars I’ve had over the past few years. Charging times were good too on a 1,000 mile round trip I averaged approximately 20 minutes recharging times, just enough time to visit the facilities, get a coffee etc then time to get on the road once more.
All I can recommend is try a good test drive and see how you find it.
Chatting to a guy in my local Tesco car park this morning who had just taken delivery of a V60. He offered to let me sit in it. Have to say it looked and felt the bees knees! Very comfortable, plush and roomy. A quality product.
I finally managed to see a ex30 on Saturday, although it wasn’t an ultra I was still impressed with the look and styling. The interior I wasn’t to sure about, maybe the colour combination of the outside and inside wasn’t too my taste it did feel a bit plasticky but the seats felt comfortable in the short time I was there.
The only thing I didn’t like was the attitude of dealer staff , not what I would call friendly or polite.
Apologies for the delay in getting back to you, finding a good dealer is becoming more challenging although I was lucky here, very helpful and could not do enough during my visit and test drive and thereafter too.
I cannot charge at home so my range will be a little less than for those who can charge at home as you they can precondition the battery before travelling thereby making sure the battery is in optimum condition before setting off.
I achieve 208 – 236 miles depending on the journey type.
That iPad glued to the centre of the dashboard lets loads of cars down. I hate that look. With Volvo putting the speedo on the top of the iPad in tiny font would be a dealbreaker for me.
I’ve had the ex30 since February, I absolutely love it’s minimalist interior. The speedo you get used to and is actual better Imo. As I have a Mach e on loan because of Autoglass and it is in the traditional position and more dangerous as you looking down more. Where in the ex30 it’s in your peripheral view.
The Mach e has a huge screen also, but the ex30 layout and speed is so much better. I miss the google maps with charging stops built in which the mach e has, fords own system that Imo is naff, as I found out on Saturday due to the heavy rain my range dropped 7% on the way home. So I had to pull over to look at zap maps to see what was near apart from one shell the ford was saying. Which was one charger and guess what out of order, oh and the faff to get it to see chargers. where as on the ex30 its just there and so easy.. It tell you what % you’ll arrive with at any stop added to your route or even search.
The reason I got the ex30 was its ride quality, on the roads we have. The mach e is sometimes uncomfortable where as the ex30 is so comfortable. There are downsides getting in to it though, the dash is very forwards near the door but apart from that I really want it back asap, although who knows how long for the adas camera unit to arrive. The mach e is not as comfortable a ride as the the ex30.
The ex30 is like marmite. The ultra you get the electric seats and the 4 way lumbar is brilliant and has so much movement and tilt for me that’s a huge plus. The panoramic roof, 360 camera, park assist and 22kw AC, which is very handy to have. Also has a max charging speed of 158kw which is fast enough and saves time.
I did an hour test drive in all cars on my shortlist and the ex30 was the most comfortable. Yes the plastics are cheap, but they are on most cars. I do like though how they have used recycled materials even for the seats. I have the blue ones as I could get that quicker and they made from old jeans and the vegan leather.
Certainly do a decent test drive and decide for your self even if that means contacting and visiting a different dealer.
