Glad to know I’m not the only one camping in my car just2fish, I thought I was just a little weird lol. I think the cheapest Skoda is 2k and after putting down about 3k on the 3008 I got about 4 years ago I swore never again.
Think I’ll just wait and see what appears from now till I can order in Feb.
Cheers for the replies folks.
December 24, 2022 at 9:07 pm in reply to: The kona electric delivery time thread and general Kona EV discussion #203432Appreciate the response Tillyman but as I’ve had a few beer I’ll wait until the morning and try it.
I think it’s just strange. Also my breaks seem to be grinding. At first I just thought it was all the salt/grit of a long drive in below 0 temperatures, but the noise is persistent. I think the dealer needs a call.
For the record surely breaks would not need replacing on a one and a half year old car?
December 24, 2022 at 7:45 pm in reply to: The kona electric delivery time thread and general Kona EV discussion #203429Folks I’ve a big problem which I need help with. Tomorrow like every Christmas morning I make a very sentimental journey which is a 3 hour round trip, its only a 98 mile trip.
I went to the in-laws tonight and when I started the car to come home it sounded a loud warning and the dash showed something about the 12v battery. It was loud and quick so I only remember that it read something along the lines of ’12v battery (something) find a safe place to stop’ or something along those lines. It happened twice.
The car started fine and drove the 5mins home with no problems and has about 60mile range left and is currently charging.
I will be in the country side within 15 minutes of my journey and going further into the country side, and as its Christmas day I can’t afford to get stuck in no man’s land as I need to get back to the kids.
I’ve searched online but it was of no help as it’s all so random (American, UK, ice, EV, ioniq, Tesla etc)
Its important that I make this journey, but equally I don’t get stranded as my kids (13 & 5) will see me for about 30 minutes on Christmas morning before I go.
Any help please.
November 4, 2022 at 10:45 pm in reply to: The kona electric delivery time thread and general Kona EV discussion #199832I saw another new Kona ev today at my dealership. Wrapped and all that. Belfast NI.
Tim my range is 230-250 winter and summer for some reason.
Brent it does have a rear light.
Im not sure of the measurements as I’m away at the minute but its a comfortable two adult seats in rear, I wouldn’t like to be the third. Not sure about leg room as I drive.
My car has developed a problem. I had a bag of rubbish to take to the dump, now it was heavy, but still only about 25kg which was sat on the back seat, but from it every time someone sits on that rear seat and gets off it the seatbelt alarm goes off for a while, a bit annoying tbh
Looks nice on the outside but I could not sit in that interior tbh
Have you seen one “in the flesh”? I thought it looked good on all the YouTube videos, but saw one a few days ago and really didn’t like the look of it. Even though I didn’t like the look of it, it’s great to see another EV on the scheme.
Good point as I liked the ioniq 5 until I saw it in the flesh and then wasn’t so keen on it. As you say it’s good to have another EV and with what appears to be an ok AP.
It is an OK AP isn’t it? Lol
November 2, 2022 at 11:23 am in reply to: Vodafone Essentials (social) Broadband £12 a month- just launched #199650I’m going to switch to the BT one for £20pm. It’s the same speed and service that I currently pay £38pm for. There is a slower speed for £15pm also.
October 7, 2022 at 10:11 am in reply to: The kona electric delivery time thread and general Kona EV discussion #197749Fwippers that’s about right. 240-260 never above never below which is enough for me, but when I see others range it baffles me.
The automatic braking has been a pain sometimes. When I’m parked up and there’s something large behind me and I need to edge out a bit to see behind me from the mirror.
Another big gripe is why the car sometimes refuses to move until the seatbelt is on, sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn’t.
I bought a wee shelf from Amazon for the storage compartment between the seats which is brilliant for keeping loose change, charging cards etc. And some wee black and blue rubber mats for all the nooks, particularly good for the drinks holder now that fizzy pop cans are thinner. Also covers the inside of the storage compartment which sound proofs it a bit.
October 6, 2022 at 12:24 pm in reply to: The kona electric delivery time thread and general Kona EV discussion #197677My came on one morning and it would not let me disconnect the home charger which made me late.
Just checked the car and in 20517 miles I’ve got 4.0 miles per KW
October 5, 2022 at 8:29 pm in reply to: The kona electric delivery time thread and general Kona EV discussion #197638Sorry I forgot to add that tyre pressure.
October 5, 2022 at 8:28 pm in reply to: The kona electric delivery time thread and general Kona EV discussion #197637Cheers Tillyman. Yeah my bonnet does appear to be higher than yours, it also appears out of shape, or the bumper is. The pointy bit of the bumper beside the lights is very high compared to yours.
My dealer is only around the corner so I’ll see if that brand new Kona is still there and check it against mine then speak with them.
Ps that’s a lovely colour.
October 5, 2022 at 2:52 pm in reply to: The kona electric delivery time thread and general Kona EV discussion #197611Hi Tillyman and thanks for the reply.
Now if I was to reply to you on my settings and driving style it would be word for word like yours lol. Eco 2 bars, I don’t mind a cold car or warm tbh. I have only used the AC a handful of times and a heat boost to clear the windows. I do however always have my other half in the car and sometimes my 2 kids none of whom are big or heavy and are 12 and 4.
I do believe my bonnet has a fault as I’ve been rubbing other konas lol. There is a fair gap between bumper and bonnet and it must be a wind trap and affecting aero dynamics. As air would hit the bumper it would be directed up onto the underside of the bonnet.
Check your bonnet and see if it’s lined up properly with the bumper as I have checked a few that I have came across and my bonnet definitely sits higher. If I look directly at the joint of top bumper and front edge of bonnet there is a gap of around 4mm. When I push the bonnet down with a bit of force it goes down about 4mm and sits flush.
I dont want to mention to dealer until I’m sure it’s a fault.
<p style=”text-align: right;”></p>I’m only getting about 240 mile average range. Never been over 260. It doesn’t matter what way I drive or what’s on or off. But as I mentioned in the other thread I think my bonnet has a fault which maybe causing it.
October 3, 2022 at 9:41 pm in reply to: The kona electric delivery time thread and general Kona EV discussion #197450Hello strangers, sorry I ain’t been on in a long time but I have my kona for 18 months now and have 20500 miles on it. So here’s the good, the bad and the faulty lol.
I like the car, it’s a bit smaller than what I’m used to and tbh if it were an ICE I’d call mobility and say I made a mistake and would hope for a change, but that’s purely down to boot size even with the bottom shelf permanently out.
It’s the top trim and I like all the safety features even if the collision system is a bit of a nuisance when getting ready to pull out sometimes. The bongs don’t really annoy me except for the open door one which drives me insane. The ACC? Is great with the lane assist. The option to pre heat/cool the car is definitely something I would want on all my cars now tbh.
It’s comfortable enough as are the seats although at 5ft 11 and 15 stone I do have my seat back a bit which doesn’t really leave much leg room behind me and tbh I would not like to share the back seat on a long drive with two other adults. Mind my seat has now got a creak in it which is annoying. The radio does cut out a bit also and after a service the 12v lighter fingy doesn’t work now. Yes it’s got some cheap plastic but I do find it a nice place to sit and all buttons and knobs are ok although I do find it daft that I have to turn the auto hold on all the time. I find the head lights are very good, bright with lots of coverage. The HUD is very handy with all the info it displays. I do have a spastic left leg/foot and fount the angle of the foot rest to much so I took it out, just two bolts then trimmed with a multi saw to give a more suitable angle and now it’s fine. Oh and it’s fast, really fast and fun to drive and I’ve no grumbles about the handling, mind my kids do miss the butterflies over the bumps as it doesn’t happen at all in this car lol. I spend most of the time in eco with two bars and very rarely use the break as lifting my foot of the accelerator is usually enough to stop and if not I use the paddle. Sound system is very good also.
Grumbles, well I do think it’s a very noisy car with wind and tyre noise, and I mean noisy. A mechanic friend said he didn’t find it much louder than his car, he drives a 10 yo 2ltr diesel Audi lol and he suggested that due to no engine noise that’s maybe why I find road/wind noise loud, surely it’s even louder with an engine. Anyway it’s definitely noises than the 3008 it replaced.
I was not to disappointed in the range which is always around 230 in winter and 260 in summer until I read a few posts on here and saw that you folk are getting 300+. At the start I drove it like an ordinary car, neither to fast or to slow and the last load of months I’ve tried to go really easy with a mix of coasting and not going to hard or fast but it seems to make no difference tbh. Now I think I may have found a fault which may be causing it. There is a biggish gap between my bumper and bonnet which is like a big wind trap, it’s about 5mm if looking straight at it, so if wind is going at it, it would just go into the motor compartment. Just this last few weeks I’ve seen a few kona ev’s and I run my hand across them and none are as big although only two out of four were flush. I googled it and nothing came up, but I learned that the rubber dampers on the bonnet can be adjusted so I did which brought it down a few mm, but there’s still a gap.
In terms of running out of electric, I done what I mentioned before on here and run it down as low as I could and got 7 mile from it went from number range to the bars before it went into crawl mode and then another two miles in crawl before I chickened out and got it on the charger, but at least I know I can get 9 maybe 10 miles if I get caught out.
I have an EV tariff which at the start was 9p per KW and it’s now up to 15p and I just program it to charge between 1am and 7am which always gets me 100%. I do most of my charging at home tbh although there’s a free 50kw not far from me which I use now and again. And I’ve recently came home from an 1100 mile road trip around Ireland with no problem with charging, although the fine for staying over 80% is a pain as I always need the 100 as most of the time I very rural.
Side note for those waiting on delivery. I live just around the corner from my dealership in Belfast and saw a brand new still wrapped kona ev ther last week which I thought strange as so many of you folk are waiting on delivery. Long post and sorry for not posting earlier, it’s just been a horrible year tbh.
I hope you all get the cars soon and enjoy them. GL
Had an online chat with BHF who put me in touch with cardiomyopathy uk ho have trained cardiac nurses who volunteer doing phone calls so will give them a ring. Cheers folks
I think he’s right. Fear is stalking me and counselling would maybe help. Might try the BHF
Yes, it’s bad. Not really painful just very scary. I will describe it like this, imagine every where you go someone who you can’t see is behind you whispering in your ear ‘any minute, any second that I decide I am going to hit you so hard that you will cry and pray for me to stop. Any time any place and only I will know when’.
ain’t really slept from it, felt ok in the hospital due to the ecg being constantly monitored and being give iv meds to keep the heart stable, but from I’ve got out I’ve been living in fear. I’ve never been so scared of something and have cried a lot . 31 times was a bit much tbh I’m thinking I would rather die than go through that again. I told the doctor that if it goes off once more I will hit my head of a wall hard enough to knock me out. I can’t do it I’m crying again, I want it out
Cheers joss and it certainly did from 12:06 to 12:26 i had 69 episodes of VT, 24 ATP, 31 shocks and 26 aborted shocks, 32 NSVTs and so many incessant VTs that they stopped counting. The doctors said that they have never seen a VT storm and outcome ie just 4 days hospital stay, like it.
and to think that I actually thought that they had misdiagnosed me tbh
@suvguy the only thing i know about engines is that mines is done and I don’t mean the cars engine.
@brydo I’ll just settle for my angiocradiogram on Wednesday, I do like the feeling of the dye, it’s like a soft warm feeling, can’t remember what it reminds me of ?.@js the ioniq premium se is very tempting as it has a good spec and is hybrid. That swace, do you know the difference in price compared to the Corolla of similar spec. Read a bit on both then my brain give up. Corolla top spec excel and swace sz5 are they they same as there is a difference in price of nearly £1300. Swace sz5 is similar price to 2.0 ltr icon or 1.8 design. But if the sz5 is based on the excel trim I would really consider it.
@marc I sat in a Corolla gt and found it very low, not easy getting in and out of tbh.I would prefer an suv as I’ve had 1 SAH, 2 PHCV and 5 TIAs LOL. So one leg is ok and the other is a peg basically. But thought about it a lot today and really doesn’t be that much of a pain to get in and out of a car, or much discomfort tbh. It’s just easier. Thing is, I take a few seconds and a bit of a pain to get in, then drive for 100, 1000, 10000 times longer, so if the right car, then yes I would take the few seconds hassle.
Another thing is, I don’t really care what a car looks like, honestly it could be covered in s&*t and if the windows are clear then I’m ok. It’s the inside, again were I spend most time in that gives me joy. I like a nice interior and dash, and honestly the more buttons, knobs and lights the better. If I had a choice between a mid level spec big badge and a top spec Ford, Kia, Seat etc, I’d always take the latter. Engines and stuff don’t really bother me as I’ve never been in a car that is to slow, and I’ve drove two old transits to know what slow is.
Now that I have to drive autos, that gives me a bit of thought as I’m new to them and have only drove 2 DSG cars and from what I gather a lot of folk on here don’t like CVT. Whats the difference? Surely in modern cars they will both be fine?
oh and my license is on the line, so I would like a car with lots of ‘toys’ to try before or if I do lose it. Like that parking fingy ma jingy that parks the car itself, I would probably never use it so would like to try it, same with smart CC or to open the pano roof, problem is I don’t really have the budget for that as any spare money I get goes towards holidays and for a good reason.Near forgot. Got 41.2 mpg. 20 mile motorway run with CC set at 59mph, jezz I don’t know what was more depressing, the fact that all I got was 41.2mpg or driving at 59mph
