I thought I would make a thread on what caught you eye in the news good or bad. This follows on from last week when I posted about the MP Lee Anderson who suggested we could cook a meal from scratch for 30p and foodbanks weren’t needed if we could cook.
So today another Tory MP Racheal Maclean the safeguarding minister has said “That people struggling with the cost of living should take on more hours or move to a better-paid job”
How does a comment like this help the most vulnerable in society. Those that can’t work, the disabled pensioners or even those that can only take up low paid work for what ever reason. I find Mp’s and ministers are so out of touch with with the public, the comments they come out with are beyond nonsense.

Be interested what @struth has to say about it.

BrydoNot sure what it will take to make enough Tory voters change their vote and bring in government for the people rather than the few.
August 15, 2022 at 3:16 pm #194252Bribing people with their own money seems to work for the SNP. How about free whisky?
August 15, 2022 at 7:23 pm #194276What made me laugh was they are looking at the 2% Ethanol that evaporates from the casks, yet petrol contains 5x that amount.
I guess because Sturgeon didnt get a majority vote and needed to form a coalition with the greens may have something to do with it. I don’t think she could have chose any worse than the greens though.
Not sure what it will take to make enough Tory voters change their vote and bring in government for the people rather than the few.
Who do you recmend @Brydo because rhey are all as bad as each other.
August 16, 2022 at 12:14 am #194303
Brydo@kezo I think it’s a sad day when people lose faith in the system. To stay with the Tories just because the other guys are just as bad would leave us with a constant Tory government. That, obviously, is not a good idea. So on that basis “a change is as good as a rest”. Labour is the obvious alternative but a coalition between Labour and liberal would be the best option. Introducing the SNP into the pact would not be an alternative, in my mind,. As I believe the Tories don’t have a mandate to run Scottish affairs, it would be wrong for the SNP to run English affairs.
The Tory leadership race is a race to the right with each candidate trying to out do each other to impress the Tory members. It could also appear to the candidates that those who voted for Tories the last time prefer a right wing leader, although I’m not sure they got that with BJ.
August 16, 2022 at 10:57 am #194333Wouldn’t say I’m a tory voter @Brydo although I was in the leave camp. I Just think whoever gets will make a fook up in oneway or another, whitch is sad considering most of my working life I was labur.
I think with Bojo he was percieved as the likeable clown and people thought they could relate to him, unfortunately he turned outtoo much of a clown lol.
I will have a laugh and a joke over politics but I’m not one that will argue over it., because in my eyes none of them really have the our full interests at heart.

The BBC News presenter Martine Croxall has urged viewers to protest against “foolhardy” plans to replace the channel with a single global news service which she warned would deprive domestic audiences of UK news………
It wouldn’t bther me if the woke BBC was closed down!

August 16, 2022 at 4:10 pm #194385August 16, 2022 at 5:43 pm #194360What is needed is a new political direction but that will never be allowed to happen as it’s all a scam, an illusion to control us and socially engineer us. They do not work for us only for themselves and their true masters. The problem is even during all these crisis what have labour or the liberals offered nothing at all..
Infact they went along with the goverment and propped it up when many was against the direction the goverment was taking. Lets not even get onto labour run councils. Didn’t the snp just lose a council also. What did they do with the covid money?
Lets not leave wales out either, I have a great deal of love for wales. To me it seems even crazier right now than anywhere in the uk. Clothes was non essential items and all that? 20 mph everywhere?
Pretty much the tories have very little say on the day to day policies that effect peoples lives in wales or in Scotland and right now there is no way I would vote labour and I will never vote for the lib dems as the SDP broke away from the labour party and Merged with the Liberal Party in 1988 to create the Liberal Democrats.
Nicola Sturgeon is a law graduate of the University of Glasgow and her parents bought their house under the right to buy scheme put in place by whom.
Just because shes from a working class background does not mean she is working class herself, far from it imo.
Nicola Sturgeon net worth is surrounded by a lot of controversies, many would agree that she has amassed a sizeable fortune in the years she has been active in politics. $12 Million acoording to https://networthpost.org/net-worth/nicola-sturgeon-net-worth/
She makes her wealth from politics, shows and some private enterprises. as them all so she is no different to any others in office labour or the tories they all put their. Many are groomed from a young age for a career in polictics, just like boris. but also another fact the ceo of many council gets paid more than the prime minster. That’s another gravy train they all on, before they get to the top and the backhand deals and nice numbers after they served. who knows you may even get an institute named after you. like the tony blair institute for global change. https://institute.global/
The Tony Blair Institute for Global Change supports political leaders and governments to build open, inclusive and prosperous societies in a globalised world. We do this through developing policy and advising governments.
What they actually do is come up with ideas to make us poorer and enslave us to debt, while they get richer.
August 16, 2022 at 6:52 pm #194398Centrica and Octopus back plan to freeze UK energy bills for two years
The downside we would have to pay it back over 10-15 years!
August 16, 2022 at 9:36 pm #194404
AdyI doubt that suggesting freezing energy bills is an altruistic act but rather hoping it will protect their massive profits from being subject to taxing. It is obscene that these energy companies are raising prices in light of their ever increasing profits.
August 17, 2022 at 8:07 am #194418Most work on profit margins so the more something costs the more they make from selling it. Same as the goverments 20% on vat. So for me it’s no surprise and it’s all part of the plan to move to globalisation and one currency and a global goverment. it won’t happen tommorow but slowly slowly we moving in that direct and they will use every crisis they create to push us towards it.
The problem is nothing is free and any handouts need to be paid for later at an added cost because of the interest and the debt just grows and grows and right now all they do is increasethe ceiling.
look at the debt clocks https://www.nationaldebtclock.co.uk/
uk Interest per Year £ 52,383,241,722
and the usa’s main debt clock gives the overall picture.

“As I look ahead, I am filled with foreboding. Like the Roman, I seem to see “the River Tiber foaming with much blood”
I don’t see how an elderly, disabled man being stabbed to death has any bearing on not listening to EN back in 20 April 1968 @kezo. Are you implying that his assailant was the off spring of a person of colour who came to GB from the “new common wealth”?

Yes @wigwam I am aware of the London gang culture and right of passage. Like you say, but without witnesses it could be someone entirely different.
