I thought I would make a thread on what caught you eye in the news good or bad. This follows on from last week when I posted about the MP Lee Anderson who suggested we could cook a meal from scratch for 30p and foodbanks weren’t needed if we could cook.
So today another Tory MP Racheal Maclean the safeguarding minister has said “That people struggling with the cost of living should take on more hours or move to a better-paid job”
How does a comment like this help the most vulnerable in society. Those that can’t work, the disabled pensioners or even those that can only take up low paid work for what ever reason. I find Mp’s and ministers are so out of touch with with the public, the comments they come out with are beyond nonsense.

Not sure Ash did a very good job as Community Safety Minister but Mike of this abode fancies her…
February 22, 2023 at 2:20 pm #210057Am I right in thinking the Greens allow the SNP to have a majority. From what t heard from the leader of the greens when speaking on the news in the last couple of days, in a nut shell isn’t amused by whats going on and he reiterated the SNP were only in power because of their support in propping the SNP up.
Could this be the downfall of the SNP, aswell as their bid for independance?
February 22, 2023 at 2:31 pm #210059The Greens put the mockers on the Scottish Government plans to finally complete the dualling of the A9. Now kicked into the long grass (literally!)
February 22, 2023 at 2:38 pm #210060When I say “plans”, the Scottish Government gave an “absolute commitment” to finish the road by 2025.
February 23, 2023 at 6:42 pm #210196i see that Coffey woman tells us we have to go back to eating turnips(embracing Baldrick”s ideals I presume). its not brexit, its just bad weather… failed to point out that the rest of Europe has loads of soft vedge, including war torn Ukraine…. but its not the Tories and not BREXIT. lol, im not sure if she is fanciable or not. ive not met her tmk.. the other 2 make me fear for the party and country tho. i can see a swing to both labour and a lesser to the torys. think the greens might slip back as folk struggle with nessessities, its no time to make them poorer.

JojoeIn the latest YouGov poll published last week, 53% said the U.K. was wrong to leave versus 32% who still believed it was the right call. Ipsos polling in January indicated that 45% of the population thought Brexit had made their daily life worse, versus just 11% who said it had improved their lives.

March 5, 2023 at 3:17 pm #213974YouGov (Nadhim Zahawi)
When you read various news articles on the subject, I would there is at least 50% more thumbs up for brexit. Personally I find that more accurate than YouGov or the office for nation statistics etc.
March 5, 2023 at 6:19 pm #213985brexit was ‘fools gold’, and of course lots fell for it thinking it would be great dont get me wrong, i cant stand the bureaucracy and little hitlers of europe, but there had to be a better way, rather than commiting seppuku, which is what we did, and with such a narrow majority.

Spot on Struth, and it’s not us who are going to pay for it, it’s our children and grandchildren who are going to put up with reduced services to pay for the economic damage. All because a few rich elites want to dance around their bedroom in union flag underpants listening to Edward Elgar full blast on the stereo.

The ruling party has an 80 seat majority, they can do what they want. It’s their post Brexit rule changes and breaking away from the single market that cost me my business. They’ve made it impossible for small businesses like mine to trade with the EU. I can’t see how more unraveling is going to make things better.

March 5, 2023 at 7:14 pm #213999You’re absolutely right . They could have but they didn’t. Too many years of rubber stamping EU initiatives has left us with a generation of politicians with no brains.

And they’re all hard core Brexiters! Sorry I couldn’t resist that one. ? ? ?
