I thought I would make a thread on what caught you eye in the news good or bad. This follows on from last week when I posted about the MP Lee Anderson who suggested we could cook a meal from scratch for 30p and foodbanks weren’t needed if we could cook.

So today another Tory MP Racheal Maclean the safeguarding minister has said “That people struggling with the cost of living should take on more hours or move to a better-paid job”

How does a comment like this help the most vulnerable in society. Those that can’t work, the disabled pensioners or even those that can only take up low paid work for what ever reason. I find Mp’s and ministers are so out of touch with with the public, the comments they come out with are beyond nonsense.

Murdoch who owns the Times has significant interests in the oil industry but I’m not inferring that this influences articles in his papers….

I dont know if this is the beginning of a trend but last year his good friend Nadine Dorries removed all barriers to him interfering in the editorial independence of the newspapers he owns. So expect headlines like “Ownership of EVs leads to impotence” or similar journalistic jems!

However he may just be getting miffed because EV sales have overtaken diesel in the UK for the first time in 2022.

Daf, as the 71st richest person in the world, I doubt Murdoch gives a toss what Coren writes in his newspaper as long as people buy it.

Wigwam you are not that naive, he pulls the strings of all his news outlets, how do you think he became the 71st richest man in the world?

He doesnt need to read his papers or watch his TV stations, his minions know what will happen if they dont tow the line. Every one of his newspapers lose money, yet he still pumps millions into them, I wonder why? In 2020 The Scum (sorry Sun) newspaper made a £220 million loss but it regurgitates his right wing views to the masses and thus serves his purpose.

As far as a queer slant on life is concerned “pot and kettle” springs to mind!

I’m glad I’m not as bitter as you seem to be, Daf.  Murdoch is an egomaniac, the world is full of them. Nothing you or I can do about it, so why not relax and enjoy life.

Wigwam, whilst its generous of you to have that attitude, given what his FoxNews outlet has done to degrade politics in the USA, you ignore Murdoch and his tightly controlled far right news outlets at your peril.

If that provides you with proof of my”strange slant on life!” then I can live with that!

BMW stops selling cars to police forces in the UK, due to forces restricting the use of the N57 diesel engine.

Why does that not surprise me!

Going back to Monday – they stoked the oven’s at the powerplant or generator’s as they like to call them now. It makes you wonder how they wll cope without them.

I sgned up to the “beat the peak” because my energy supplier led me to believe I would earn £6-£10 by doing so. I have done it 4 0r 5 times now between 5-6pm , with yesterday been the longes’t 4.30pm-6pm. The most I have earned/rewarded is £0.93p. A con if you ask me!!
