Current car Hyundai Kona Ultimate EVDecember 1, 2022 at 2:16 pm #201690Afternoon all – not long back from IKEA – other stores are available ?
Approximately 30 miles each way – same route there and back – traffic conditions similar – no real holdups.
Patchy mist and fog both ways.Outward journey.
Temp 4*c.
30 miles – 4.4 m/kWhReturn journey.
Temp 6*c.
30.3 miles – 4.9 m/kWhWas there almost 2 hours so battery would be starting from base temperature again – not scientific – but a good indicator of temperature and range.
December 1, 2022 at 2:19 pm #201691Should have said mix of A roads and motorway – about 10% built up areas – upto 65 on motorway – auto gen and paddle on 2.
December 1, 2022 at 5:48 pm #201708I achieved 3.7 today, a short trip into town, but used demist heater etc. I suspect on a longer journey would have increased. 4.4 and 4.9 very good for a cold winter day.

NigelJust spoke to Hyundai.
Original landing date was August, now production expected early March and landing date 3rd May.
Not much difference.
Does 2months from production to delivery sound about right ? I don’t know

NigelSorry
April not August original landing date.

BrentSaw a few people talking about potential EVs and they linked this
https://ev-database.uk/#title-filter:value=kona
The range on there seems quite low, given the average would be around 300miles from here, Facebook and speak EV. Would this be all year combined? Or just heavy footed?
December 2, 2022 at 7:19 pm #201796There seem to be a number of reviews that give a very negative view of the Kona 64 range – they are either very unrealistic driving techniques ie 70 mph + motorway drives and laying down rubber at every opportunity or just biased towards other vehicles.
I think it would have to be a combination of cold a/c full on and flooring it at every opportunity for me to only get that range – both odd and suspicious.
December 2, 2022 at 9:23 pm #201797
desTBF that’s my average range and I’ve tried going really easy to get it up. At the moment I’m averaging about 3.3

The first month of ownership I played with all the toys and got the burning rubber out of my system and then went to the other extreme to max the range – but honestly since then I have just driven the car normally – yes I have it in eco because that still gives enough acceleration for quick getaways for lane changing or entering roundabouts – I use the ventilated and heated seats – auto regen and recently position two on paddle ( as recommended by Struth) and I don’t drive slowly – so I can understand those that have questioned if there is something different about their car.
December 2, 2022 at 9:54 pm #201801<p style=”text-align: left;”>You are not the only one to say that des and I have no reason to doubt you – but it does make me wonder if there could be a variance in the conditioning of the batteries. I think there’s something odd with my car, I’ve tried every possible way of driving and speed of charger and never been able to charge my car above 254 miles in the summer. It has even gone back to a dealer who checked and said it’s within their permitted range of power/battery health but it is on the lower end of what’s “okay”. Charged today to 90% and not only did the car stop charging at that point its now only displaying 204 miles.

December 2, 2022 at 10:05 pm #201802That must be incredibly frustrating – sorry if I am guilty of rubbing it in – just like others trying to share experience and knowledge of the car.
I have never needed to do this myself – but I have read that waiting until the battery is almost empty ie down to last 2o or less miles and then charging at a slow rate (3 pin plug) is suppose to help recondition battery – at least then you have tried most things and are in a stronger position to complain – however with the shortage of cars I’m not sure what options Motability could offer.
Very unfortunate and frustrating.December 2, 2022 at 10:12 pm #201803<p style=”text-align: left;”>

No you weren’t rubbing it in at all. I was just venting if I’m honest, I’ll try that 3 pin plug tip and see what happens. Apart from the battery issue I’m loving the car and all of its features. If I’m honest all I’d ask them for is a new battery not a new car.

December 3, 2022 at 7:22 am #201807Took me an age to get mine up to the 300’s. As I got it in winter it wasn’t high and took a lot of time to nudge up.
You could also clear the driving computer so it starts from fresh I guess

December 3, 2022 at 11:56 am #201842The average seems to be 10 – 14 days.
Good you have a date – hopefully it will stay or even be early – either way out if your control – so chill and watch some Kona “ how to” ??December 3, 2022 at 4:16 pm #201850
desTillyman there could be something in what you said. Before the charger was installed I would use the 3 pin all the time and I regularly let the battery go down to 20 or so miles and in hindsight I was getting around 260 then compared to 240 now.
Tbh it doesn’t really annoy me as 240 is good, I just wouldn’t mind getting 300+
I’m heading away again next week to rural Donegal. I’ll probably do about 300 miles there and back. There’s a 50kw charger in Killybegs which is beside where I’m staying and which is just behind a big beautiful fishing harbour and in front of several nice bars and restaurants. So I’ll be forced to charge there lol.

Debs@Nigel – Sadly, the Kona comes from Korea so there is a long transport time (apparently some of the other models are made in the Czech Republic so less time to get here).
Update on my order debacle …
My email sent on Tuesday evening to the Regional Managers/Directors of Hyundai, the dealer and Motability resulted in an acknowledgment the following day and a telephone call on Thursday confirming that, as soon as I could come into the dealership to complete some additional paperwork, Motability would be able sort out the back end ensuring that I qualify for the car as if it had been correctly ordered back in April (deposit and ‘Jungle Green’ included). I was working yesterday but went into the dealers this morning and am now the proud owner of an order from Hyundai and confirmation from Motability that they are in receipt of an order for a Bayon (you can’t order a Kona anymore) which I have been assured will be corrected on Monday on the orders of the Regional Director of Motability 🙂
I am very grateful to this forum for all the support you’ve given me and to Helen Dewdney (aka The Complaining Cow), the author of How to Complain: The Essential Consumer Guide to Getting Refunds, Redress and Results. Helen contacted me on receipt of my order to check that my area of concern would be covered by her book and offered additional support if I was unable to achieve resolution as she recognised that the car industry was notoriously difficult to tackle!!
I’m beyond excited now but in the meantime, I’ll have to satisfy my enthusiasm with this …
December 3, 2022 at 4:29 pm #201858<p style=”text-align: left;”>Brilliant news Debs – persistence pays off – nice one – hopefully now you can enjoy Christmas in the knowledge that not only Santa but a Kona is in its way ??.
Very pleased for you ??
December 3, 2022 at 5:13 pm #201862Fantastic result Debs. Persistence beats resistance right enough! The waiting begins, again.
December 3, 2022 at 5:36 pm #201864Excellent outcome. At least now it’s just a waiting game.
December 4, 2022 at 1:16 am #201867Thats a great outcome Debs, happy to see you have that sorted

nathan+neili place my order back in march for my kona i am getting fed up dont want to email them again as it get further away everytime the last date i was given to complete production on 09.10.2022 and is estimated to dock at Tilbury on 03.12.2022 i even check the dealer opening time see if i could collect for christmas
i seen alot ppl have place order after me they are driving thier kona i wonder if its connected to size of dealership i place my order in a small dealership as the big one staff wasnt much help
December 4, 2022 at 8:42 am #201880<p style=”text-align: left;”>If I remember correctly last year Christmas seemed to add a month onto order dates and it was very difficult to establish a line of logic to delivery times – on top of that factor in the chip shortage – the ultimate uses far more chips than the premium.

If you now take chips out of the equation my take is they batch in colour – then it is just the luck of the draw if your estimated despatch date coincides with that colour. They used to give VIN number sometime during voyage to Tilbury – then not until it docked.
My advice – keep asking for updates on a monthly basis, but don’t believe a date until you get your VIN – else you will just get frustrated over events not in your control.
But – yes – I do still remember the sinking feeling when estimated delivery date was pushed out yet again. As many have said – the Kona is well worth the wait – especially given the current lack of EV choice on Motability.December 4, 2022 at 2:44 pm #201898
desSo I done the test today. Fully charged last night which gave 252. Preconditioned the car whilst plugged in and took everything out. I even removed the rear headrests and shelves. I went on a 1 mile of city driving, 21 motorway and 2.4 country b road.
So 24.4 mile all in. Everything was off in the car, no heat, radio and turned the auto lights, wipers off. I even turned the screen off mind it’s not like the pug which blacks out. I didn’t even indicate as it was so quiet traffic wise. I barely used the brakes as I have mastered the stop with regen and or paddles. Cruise was set at 60 mph and I spent about 8 miles around 54-58 sitting close behind a lorry to use it’s slip stream. Also got about 2 mile coasting. City was never over 20mph and b road neve over 40mph
The result was 24.4 mile at 4.5 make which made me grumpy lol. Mind the range only dropped by 16 mile. The plan was to do the exact drive back the same but the longish, cold, boring drive for 4.5 peed me off so I stopped and reset the trip. I put the heat on at 22 fan 1, radio on and heated steering wheel and drove the exact same way home but at 75 on motorway and about 55-60 on b road. It returned 2.9 mkw but it took 46 mile of the range. And the journey added up returned 3.5 for 45 mile and range is now 196 miles.
I don’t know what to make of it tbh. I was expecting a lot more than 4.5 with all the sacrifices.
