I should have added that sometime this week I’m going to empty the car of everything, including the child seat, loose change and junk lying in the boot. Check tyre pressure, get a dry day and go on a drive of motorway at 60mph, A & B roads at 40 mph and city driving around 20mph and drive as conservatively as possible with lights off, no heat, radio and see if I can get over 6 for the whole journey. About 40 mile motorway, 10 mile A&B and 2 mile stop start city driving.
Interested to see the result, and with motorway driving in cold conditions it will be a challenge. Today on a short run into town, we averaged 5.4 going and 4.7 returning. I would also only take the cars OBC stats as “Bluelink” tends not to be accurate.
November 28, 2022 at 9:57 am #201468think bluelink adds in the recuperation to its total hence why its usually higher

NevilleHad my Kona for just over one week. It was ordered 2 April and arrived in Tilbury on 21st October. I am loving it although not fully conversant with all the controls. I really like the regen. Braking although it does seem to upset some motorists who are not paying sufficient attention to their driving and you slow down and no brake lights appear. Not had to use a public charger yet and am very apprehensive about doing so as it seems somewhat complicated with so many different providers. I would really appreciate any guidance that anyone can give me as I do several longish trips a year and would definitely need to recharge. Still trying to fully understand the cruise control as well. The motability rep. that I saw had not owned an electric Kona and so was not fully able to help me. Any advice would be extremely welcome. This is a great site with so many owners offering to share their Kona experiences.

Plan every long journey before hand and have different charging areas in mind before you set off. Dont expect to drive into a service area and find a free charger, or one that works. You learn as you go along. I stopped at an Instavolt charger at the weekend. There were 4 chargers, 3 shown working one faulty. Only 2 actually worked and although they show 125kwh speed, they only put out 44kwh each. Aparently, the machines share the same power supply, so will never produce 125 kwh.
I use the smart cruise control more or less all the time.
November 28, 2022 at 4:32 pm #201486One piece of advice in respect of public charging is to use at least one when you don’t need to, hence no time pressure etc. I used one for the first time last weekend and really easy. Present your payment card or RDIF card, plug in the charger and press start. When you have charged enough, present the card again, press stop and take out the charger. All done. Like anything new, a mobile, TV etc, it can seem a little daunting but it’s really a piece of cake. A word of warning, always have an option B, just in case the charger is busy or out of order. Many of the apps will tell you which chargers are busy or out of order. Regarding the car and its features, practice makes perfect. The ACC takes a little getting used to to fully appreciate it.
November 28, 2022 at 6:49 pm #201488Hi Neville – glad you are enjoying your car ?.
My understanding is that the brake lights will come on in auto regen or using the paddles – it is controlled by the level of de-acceleration – not how you do it.November 29, 2022 at 1:21 am #201502Hi Neville, my advice would be to sign up for the “Charge My Hyundai” app, one app, one RFID card, plus QR code, for most charger brands, an extra 49p for each charge but saves the hassle of having to have lots of different cards and apps. It includes a navigation feature with location and live information of most chargers, a lot like the other apps like ABRP but hopefully better. I have not actually had to use mine yet, but when you do you get a monthly bill that is charged to your registered card. It is a pity that even my dealer wasn’t aware of this app, and I did ask, hopefully it will work fine when I do have to use it.
November 29, 2022 at 11:49 am #201516Just to add, and also for my interest, the app lists Ionities Cobham, Beaconsfield, Peterborough, Baldock and Blackburn as free, all too far for me to go as I suspect this is a mistake, but would be worth checking if you are near.
November 29, 2022 at 12:41 pm #201536Good afternoon all.
Just got back from an 8 Mile drive – weather cold and dank – used heated seats no a/c returned 4.8 – so going down but still very acceptable.
I like many of you have not yet charged near the extreme of range – just tested locally to try and convince myself I know what I’m doing ??.As for the charging apps

Yes I have been looking at a few ?.
Different apps appear to vary in choice in different parts of the UK – my need will be Exeter and Cornwall heading towards Truro – so living just outside M25 Exeter would be the earliest I would want to stop and further into Cornwall would be better.
I think you can plan along your route factoring alternatives, but the real issue seems to be reliability and speed – as I will not make this journey often I can live with being over charged, but as I have said reliability and speed along with close to route are my main priorities. Time will tell ?November 29, 2022 at 2:09 pm #201550
AndrewI’ve only used podpoint(lidl) and instavolt in Southampton but both were easy to use, podpoint gave an error when the car reached the charging limit I had set so I always ended it manually after that.
Fortunately my home charger has finally been installed but I’m glad I have the experience of charging publicly.
November 29, 2022 at 4:20 pm #201554I am now only charging to max 90%. Most journeys are short. I recharge when the battery hits 60%. Today on a short journey, 4.2, with heater on. A warm cabin and comfortable ride is more important than eeking out a few more miles.
November 29, 2022 at 4:59 pm #201555I agree fwippers – I feel I know how to get the best range from the car in all but frost or near subzero conditions – I find heated seats keep me comfortable and warm and not really needed heater – I’m sure that will change when we get frost and days just above freezing. We have yet to have a frost here – some of my half hardy plants are still in flower.

NevilleThank everyone for their advice. This is certainly an extremely helpful, friendly and useful site. The initiator is to be congratulated.
November 29, 2022 at 5:02 pm #201558Lucky you. Been cold up here for a while. Gas is costing a fortune. Car and buckets were iced solid today.
Not even been across door today

Those of us fortunate to have home chargers can at least pre condition our cars on really cold days.November 29, 2022 at 6:55 pm #201562
DebsThanks everyone for your support!
@SmileyMotability – I have managed to get hold of a copy of my order details from Hyundai and you’ve kindly identified which number is the order number for me (no headers printed off). I am currently sending an email to the regional bods for Motability, Hyundai and the dealership with instructions that I expect the situation to be sorted within 8 weeks from the complaint first being raised or I will take Motability to the Financial Ombudsman and Hyundai and the dealership to the the Motor Ombudsman.I’m hoping it won’t come to that though ….
November 29, 2022 at 7:07 pm #201566Sounding more positive Debs – I wish you well ??
November 29, 2022 at 8:22 pm #201571So glad you’ve posted again Debs, have been thinking about your plight and hoping for a good outcome. Sounds like you have some good evidence to push forward. Let’s hope that your email gets your order under way without having to jump through hoops. Fingers in permanent crossed position for you
November 29, 2022 at 9:11 pm #201576Hi Debs, fingers crossed fir a positive response from Hyundai. And Neville, agreed a pat on the back to the creator of this thread, Capuchin.

Recently come back from a drive – just over 12 miles and returned 5.
Thanks I will include this when I drive.Nice sunny day – still no frost ??
November 30, 2022 at 3:42 pm #201619i did preheat cabin etc but it wasnt connected to the mains so came out of the battery. still it was nice and warm; screen clear etc. i switched heater off and used the seat and wheel to keep warm. still, for the temp, it was more than acceptable

I am finding the Kona to be one of those cars that the longer I live with it the more I discover those well thought out touches that just work; which you can quickly take for granted.November 30, 2022 at 7:53 pm #201632Temperatures are expected to fall to 5 or 6c next week, interesting to see what effect this has on efficiency.
