I know a few of us are eagerly awaiting delivery of these so thought I’d make a thread so we can all keep track of updates etc

Ordered ultimate Misty jungle (with light leather) on 9th November. Delivery slated for end of March. Dealer has had no update yet.

The only “real life evidence” I have is when I measured my journey to London which indicated 332 miles per charge when adding the miles travelled plus remaining range, and with around 230/240 miles on Motorways during a heatwave!

It is comforting to know we chose the Kona – Hyundai do real world range like few others – real being truthfully realistic  – you would have thought others would have learnt from diesel gate.
I am sure many of you will have used the speed limiter by pressing and holding mode on the right hand side of the wheel – but if you haven’t be aware that the car can surge forward slightly when deactivated – especially at a low speed like twenty – when you deactivate by pressing mode again car can surge forward slightly – I assume auto brake would prevent a forward shunt – just be aware – have any others discovered this?

Hi Ian Websell – I know you said you fitted some wind deflectors to your Kona – I have just ordered some in plastic chrome for my Kona – having done various research I concluded it was worth the risk of not liking them – less than £50 on Amazon – I understand it helps with wind noise on motorways and allows for window to be cracked open for demising air circulation etc – thus not as much need for a/c or none at all – just ventilated seat – I would be interested in your view Ian – I seem to remember you fitted them soon after getting your car – I will give it a month then give my conclusion on them – I have never used them before – I will fit them on Monday after Sunday delivery.

@Tillyman the best by far wind deflectors are Team Heko. I have used them on every car i have had on motability. They are easy to install and remove. Have a look Wind deflectors HYUNDAI Kona 5d 2017-> (rear deflectors included)

Price £36.37 for both front and rear windows.

Thanks Joss – unfortunately I have already ordered – I put this post on pause whilst trying to cancel

AUTO CLOVER Chrome Wind Deflectors Set for Hyundai Kona (8 pieces).

Managed to cancel so will check out your suggestion and advice – what do you find are the main benefits – would you advise getting for front and back windows or just front – most of the time it is just the two of us tho I suspect car may look better balanced with front and back – thank you.

Anyone considering official Hyundai mats, mine are a month old and some of the stitching gas come loose on the driver’s.  Am going to monitor. Not a huge issue.

One small issue I have is with charging.  I set the parameters to charge only between 21. 30 and 01.30, but the information dissappear after a week or so and I have to input again. A 30 second job so not a major concern.

With the recently announced energy price rise, am happy our Octopus Go Faster is fixed for a year. I guess fast chargers will be around 75p per kw, so will be avoiding them unless absolutely necessary.

Possibly next July when I renew it could mark the end of very cheap electricity.  I wonder how many of the current free chargers will remain free?

it’s all a bit of a lottery – you do your research  – make the best decision you can and don’t beat yourself up if it is wrong –  so far – not tying ourselves into a fixed term with OVO has definitely worked – we don’t do a high mileage and don’t won’t noisy appliances running after 11 pm – but I wouldn’t be surprised if this time next year we would be better off if we had.
We are set to go old school this winter and turn the heating down a few notches and don extra thermals and the few occasions I may have to bite the bullet and use an expensive charger will be more than off set by the relatively cheap home charging.

<p style=”text-align: left;”>For us, it works. Bedtime is usually midnight and the noisy appliances are in the kitchen/diner, well away from the lounge. We will  use electric to heat after 9.30 pm when it’s cheap, half the price of gas, and probably a third in January when it goes up to something crazy. Additionally we’ll wear something warmer and even go for long drives in the car with the heater on. I suspect we’ll have to use the central heating,  but the thermostat will be lower. If I hadn’t gone for the Kona electric,  I wouldn’t have got some of these extra benefits. Having done the maths, some of the effects of high energy will be mitigated, not all, and depressingly we have worse to come in January and April next year.</p>

Agree. It’s like paying £2.95 for a coffee you could make at home for 30p, but once in a blue moon( or to quote Ziva in NCIS, once in a blue lagoon).

Morning all – from one of the papers this morning

The unit cost of electricity will nearly double under new energy prices released yesterday, taking it to 86p per kWh, up from 56p. Petrol prices have fallen in recent weeks and stand at £1.70 per litre, in comparison.

So it could cost more to drive electric than fuel !!

We new it was coming but now the reality is almost upon us – I believe I am right in saying that Motability have offered a different arrangement for those who haven’t the option of charging at home.
I would assume free or cheap chargers of charging rate 20 and under will become much more in demand – only those with solar panels and a low weekly mileage will be shielded by the effects.
What a difference a year makes – I wish for all of you – the best you can of health and stay safe nourished and warm in the coming months. ?

….And if the energy cap reaches £6600, that could mean £1.50 or more per kWh on a fast charger znd over £1 at home. If so I wonder how many motability electric drivers will wish to cancel and go back to petrol? Will it dampen demand for electric cars? Will more suppliers offer cheaper overnight tariffs? Will the shift to electric vehicles be undermined?

Given the resources manufactures have put into trying to delay electric whilst getting their house in order – then accelerated by the new player Tesla – now most of them have invested heavily in EV I suspect there will be a lot of powerful pressure put on governments to subsidise EV – need to be green – less road  side pollution – all the usual arguments will be rolled out – but really it will be about their profits.
It may encourage shopping centres to offer more chargers 20 or less or even 50 or less with an incentive of reduced or zero cost for shoppers.

If it gets that way I will have to return car I guess.even with low mileage it’s not gonna be worth it. Not sure living will be either tbh.

I can foresee a lot of deaths over this

I suspect Motability will be looking for ways of helping their EV customers with EV chargers at lower rates – I would be surprised if there aren’t conversations of this nature already – there was a lot of kick back when after years of pushing diesel suddenly it was demonised – especially with older vehicles.  Government will not want a repeat with EV.
I suspect there is a lot of head scratching occurring at the moment.

I have a year of cheap motoring and I suspect at the end of it there will be another deal albeit at 15 or 20p not 7.5p. Without drifting too much off topic, agree with the above comments,  we are going to see deaths, mental health issues etc. Some are now buying full fat milk. Although higher in fat, it has more nutrition forcthe same cost as semi or skimmed. McDonald’s is looking better and better value for many, and that’s a serious comment.  Hot food from the app, and a heated restaurant!

I’ve just ordered a BEV and I’m seriously considering cancelling the order, with the high APP and the increase in electricity cost I just can’t justify having a BEV anymore. Shame really.

It is certainly a whole different equation now and I certainly understand your hesitation – we may even find extended wait times for ICE cars – especially those with a good range.
I am fortunate in as much as I can charge at home and my annual mileage is less than 10k max. I will only need an external charger less than 5 times a year for a top up less than 50%
I wish you well with your decision.

For me it was crucial to be able to charge from home, for 2 principal reasons,  cost and convenience.  I couldn’t get my head around having to search for charging stations all the time and secondly to pay typically 50p kWh.  The latter includes VAT at 20% and the government could zero rate this, for say 2 years reducing the vist by almost 17% at a stroke.

I paid £999AP  for my Kona, now £1599 and I would still purchase it again. A comparable petrol car would typically have a similar or higher AP and there will always be deals that offer cheap overnight charging. However the gap has narrowed to the extent that the government will need to act. And bear in mind if both petrol and electricity were supplied without taxes, a litre of fuel would be around half its current price. Interesting times lay ahead.

I did try and edit above. Of course for a private buyer it’s a completely different ball game with less incentivestoswitch. At present I achieve the equivalent of 450mpg, based on a price if £1.70 a litre and a charge of 7.5p kWh.

If as a planet we want people to switch to electric there needs to be incentives so some difficulties ahead for political leaders, and a topic to be discussed on different forums.

Whatever we do is not going to offset what China or India do sadly – this is not meant to be judgemental just realistic – so I will enjoy my less polluting EV and try to be helpful to locals family and friends. – sermon over!!
