CapuchinI know a few of us are eagerly awaiting delivery of these so thought I’d make a thread so we can all keep track of updates etc
Ordered ultimate Misty jungle (with light leather) on 9th November. Delivery slated for end of March. Dealer has had no update yet.

Brent<p style=”text-align: center;”>I think my last post may have glitched up.

Motability have taken the kona off the scheme and hyundai aren’t taking new orders.
It seems almost everyone who’s ordered an ultimate is waiting til March now. Will Motability honor this? My dealer said they’ll honor the payments, but Motability seem to be very unaware and said to order the mokka or fiat because “they’re basically the same and have a good range”… of under 200 miles
August 27, 2022 at 9:09 pm #195326<p style=”text-align: left;”>Wow Brent that is a surprise – Motability have a good reputation for honoring their agreement – but if Hyundai are saying that is it – then there is not a lot Motability can do.
I think it will have to be a waiting game – hopefully in the next few days it will become clearer – there will be others in the same situation as you – I do hope it will be a good outcome for you Brent.
It must be very unsettling!!
August 27, 2022 at 10:11 pm #195327I didn’t realise that the Kona has been removed from Motability. And frankly a range of 200 miles is not comparable with one of 300 miles.
August 28, 2022 at 7:46 am #195334I guess the Kona, like the Kia Sportage, has been remove because of the sheer numbers of orders on the books, and the waiting times growing ever longer.

Aside the expensive Ariya with a 249 mile range, nothing offering anything like the 300 mile Kona range. The Mokka, 208 miles. Those of us who have our cars or are about to get them have done well. Depressing times for motability customers, hopefully short lived.
August 28, 2022 at 7:26 pm #195386I think they have pulled them as their order book is full on the mkq Kona.
Once the new model is out they will open again but I think that may be next year in spring.
Yes it’s hard times and I feel for all those who have missed out.

I know for many who have a wheel chair the size of vehicle is dictated by what will fit – not easy for anyone at the moment – including Motability!!August 29, 2022 at 12:55 am #195389

Ian WebsellHello all
I have just been away for a week to the northeast on Holiday. The figures from the dash on the car screen was my total miles and KWh figures and the other picture was from the app for my journey home. We spent £24.88 on 3 charge top ups. The Evie the EV performance was excellent. Very happy with how the week has gone. That was 66mph on cruise on the M6 and 56mph on the A69 across to Newcastle.
As for reading about the Kona EV been removed, it’s a shame. But it is the best car for its money and range, there is nothing better. I hope it will be back on the scheme. If not in 3 years time, I will just extend my deal from 3 to 5 years and then see.
I hope those who have ordered, they are fulfilled.
Can I have all your feedback on my STATS please. I would like a comparison. Thank you ? ??August 29, 2022 at 12:55 am #195390

BrentYeah there’s absolutely nothing on the scheme that suits any driver doing more than I’d say… 50 miles a day? Which sounds extreme but reviews I’ve seen of the mokka and corsa were under 100 miles in winter, and it doesn’t have particularly fast charging unless that changed.
The zsev had a good range. But that’s gone too. Id3 gone, and the Nissan way too expensive for the average.
Concerning how motability are gonna keep up with their claim of going all ev.
August 29, 2022 at 9:55 am #195410Hi Ian – glad you had a nice break – my overall average is 5.1.
I normally drive in eco with smart recuperation on – but I use a/c and ventilated seats without hesitation and music is always on.
I have yet to do a long journey ie 200 plus but if I return 4.7 I would be extremely happy – as that would equate to 300 miles.
I hope to fit wind deflectors this week – unfortunately not Team Heko as recommended by joss – I tried various sources without success – only finding the odd dubious sale of 2 front for £90+ – as opposed to the £36 for the 4 that Joss suggested – I will be interested to see how they perform – both in terms of having front windows cracked open and reduce a/c and also wind noise at 65 motorway cruising.Ian what were your reasons for getting them and how are they performing.
Yes Brent – very little EV choice on Motability and private generally without a long wait – especially if you have a particular spec in mind – hope you get confirmation that your order is expected to go through soon!!
August 29, 2022 at 10:33 am #195411This is the red line for so many, a decent range, which the Kona offers, and indeed other cars like the MG and VW offerings, but none are available on the scheme. The Mokka is the closest but at a real life range of well under 200 is too compromised.
I think if I can achieve over 4 miles kWh in winter, 256 miles of range, that will be a decent outcome. I think we may be spending more time in the car as it´s cheaper to heat than our house! Coffee in the forest or by the sea!
August 29, 2022 at 11:04 am #195415<p style=”text-align: left;”>Probably cheaper to heat, especially with seats and wheel on – as long as you are not going anywhere – for many cost of fuel and EV charging will be the same.

As for winter EV mileage – it will be a new learning curve and information to share – so lights and windscreen wipers on full – heated seats and wheel (ultimate) will all need to be assessed to find the sweet spot for comfort and range – long journeys will need more compromise – I would hope for 4.2 plus – so 270 plus – time will tell.Once again the pool of knowledge and experience will be a valuable resource!!
August 29, 2022 at 11:19 am #195416<p style=”text-align: left;”>Seats and wheel heating, lights etc is I believe via the 12v battery so shouldn’t be be a drain. Aircon is of course the big battery. Also the cold drops the effective range about 25% before you start. If you get a winter at over 4, your doing ok . I’ve had it below 3.5 on occasion but 4 is more normal.

When plugged in give it a heating boost before you go out then just use demister if you can and the seats and wheel should keep you warmCurrent Car: Hyundai Kona Premium EV...2 way 40kg hoist

CherylD89We only ordered ours 2 months ago, no contact from the dealer since. Due to the car being removed from motability I’m going to give them a call today to see if they can reassure us we will actually get the car at all.
August 29, 2022 at 12:01 pm #195422Hi CherylD89 – I hope your call goes well ? ?
August 29, 2022 at 12:05 pm #195425Hi Struth – I hadn’t appreciated cold gave battery such a hit – I assume somewhere there will be a temperature chart and expected % loss. So my 4.2 maybe optimistic.
August 29, 2022 at 12:12 pm #195426So this was from an independent source
Our analysis shows the ideal operating temperature to get the most range out of your EV is 21.5 C (70 F). At this temperature, EVs are achieving on average 115% of their rated range. The farther above or below the optimal temperature, the more range is lost.
<p style=”text-align: left;”>It would be useful to have an estimated drop off – % battery to temperature – I will continue looking for an independent trusted source with chart.

SigmaAccording to the Kia website, the Soul is still available and has the same drive train as the Kona. Albeit with a £1,999 AP.
August 29, 2022 at 12:35 pm #195430Is that Motability Sigma?
Thought this might be of interest – tho I cannot establish if this is with it without heat pump

August 29, 2022 at 1:37 pm #195435Interesting and informative article which would suggest a real life range in winter of around 279 miles, possibly a tad higher as winter’s tend to be milder here in the UK.
August 29, 2022 at 1:42 pm #195436Looking back at screenshots from January, best I managed was 5.19kwh and worst was 2.25kwh. that was with the heating on all time as it was a cold day

August 29, 2022 at 2:59 pm #195439Just went on Kia website looking at Soul – which appears to be there – however on following the link for more info – page not found – so it could be an update – to what ??
