Email from the council this morning, cable gully paid for (£300) and it’s being fitted Nov. 29th.

Rang my HA for an update on permission to have the charger fitted and had to leave a message.

So that leaves the HA and Ohme to get sorted out.

Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!

Sorry for the delay in replying, I got a reply, she’s got a meeting with her line manager this week regarding EV charging and the process involved so should have more information for me soon.

          Edit – Tues Dec 5th

Got a reply from Ohme asking me to let them know when the KerboCharge woud be fitted and to send a photo as proof so they can go ahead with the installation.  Told them it was fitted on Nov. 29th and sent them a photo of it.

Just hope the HA hurry up!, don’t want Ohme to offer an install date and still not have HA permission in writing !!.

Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!

A couple of questions, I’ve seen a few people that could be great candidates but there’s a couple of things that I’d like to clarify, if you can help:

Do you have dedicated parking? and Do you think that would be necessary to get the gully fitted?

If there’s a garden between the house wall and the pavement, would you need a huge cable just to get to the car, I’m guessing installing the charger on the inside of a garden wall, whilst not impossible might be something of a challenge and definitely not a standard install.

As I’ve said, I’ve seen a few people between here and Motability FaceBook groups that look like on the outset at least, there might be a good reason to apply this before giving up on an EV.

I'm Autistic, if I say something you find offensive, please let me know, I can guarantee it was unintentional.
I'll try to give my honest opinion but am always open to learning.

I don’t have dedicated parking, the council just asked if I was aware that if someone else parked there I wouldn’t be able to charge.  In my case I’m in a small cul-de-sac so very rarely get anyone other than the residents parking, my car spends probably 90% of it’s time parked outside my house in the same place.

Yes, I have a small garden between the front of the house and the footpath, it’s about 4.3m from the front wall to the footpath.  I have an entrance porch with my elec/gas box on the side wall, hopefully the charger will go on the wall on the other side of it, this will make it about 3m from the footpath.  Add about 2m from the charger to the ground then another 3m run over the garden to the footpath, 2m through the footpath and another 2m for getting to the car socket and I should be good with a 10m cable.

Here’s a rough idea of what I’m talking about,

I can’t park any further over due to the footpath coming out, you can see it better in this photo.

Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!

How did I know my HA were going to make things complicated?

                Just got this from them,

                Good afternoon

After reviewing our process would you be able to send over the following information in order to progress the application please? You should be able to get this info from the EVC installation company.

Confirm the EVC installer (which must be approved by the office for zero emission vehicles (OZEV) –  is this Motability?

Include relevant drawings, specifications, and details of the proposed works, contractor information, and qualifications/experience/accreditations

Scope of Works including where the equipment is to be installed. – I have a mark up on the proposed area. But does the installer have further info and documents please?

                Proposed Start & Completion Dates

                Public & Employers Liability Insurance

Risk Assessment and Method Statement (RAMs)

Most of these questions your HA put to you will be answered by Ohme or their contractor. Just forward their email to Ohme, they should be conversant in dealing with HA,s.
BTW i briefly lived in Bearpark in late 90,s…lol

How did I know my HA were going to make things complicated?

Your HA is in part treating the work, as a contract works order which is not unexpected, albeit not entirely correct. A contract works order, is when the HA themselves contract an external company to undertake work on one or more dwellings.

Confirm the EVC installer (which must be approved by the office for zero emission vehicles (OZEV) –  is this Motability?

The work is being undertaken by Ohme (the manufacturer) and their approved contractor on behalf of Motability. I cannot confirm who the EV installer is untill you the HA give permission. Most likely it will be ProEV, who are OZEV approved and their installers accredited.

Include relevant drawings, specifications, and details of the proposed works, contractor information, and qualifications/experience/accreditations

Again you won’t the contractors information untill permission has been granted by the HA. The contractor will be manufacturer approved and fully qualified electrician to BS7671 18th edition standards. The wotk will be undertaken to BS7671 2018 + Ammendment 1 2020, which includes BS8300 and regulartion 722.411.4.1 if applicable and all other relevant regulations. The installation work, will be tested in accordance with BS761 section 610.1 and an electrical compliance certificate handed directly to the HA or passed on by you.

The above information should be sufficient for now but, the proposed works will include a suitable weatherproof consumer unit fitted adjacant to the meter box meeting BS7671 specifications and include a surge device in accordance of BS7671 section 443 , which will supply the charge point with EVSE. A CT clamp to monitor load will be fitted to the meter tails. An islation switch in accordance with BSS7671 537.2. will be fitted within the meterbox if not already fitted.

Scope of Works including where the equipment is to be installed. – I have a mark up on the proposed area. But does the installer have further info and documents please?

The Scope works will be the same as proposed works in paragraphe 2 above (put it here). Which will include a suitable weatherproof consumer unit fitted adjacant to the meter box meeting BS7671 specifications and include a surge device in accordance of BS7671 section 443 , which will supply the charge point with EVSE. A CT clamp to monitor load will be fitted to the meter tails. An islation switch in accordance with BSS7671 537.2. will be fitted within the meterbox if not already fitted.  Include your drawing of the charger installation only (not the charge cable to car) Include a second drawing showing a small box (consumer unit) next to your meter box. Show clearly the cable going from this point to the charger and note this is what you will request. (the cable will go at ground level below the door)

                          Proposed Start & Completion Dates

Again, this cannot be confirmed untill permission is granted  by the HA. You will inform them on the proposed start date and completion date is expected to be within half a day, on the same date.

                          Public & Employers Liability Insurance

Again you won’t know this untill permission is granted by the HA, who will be the appoved contractor. At which point you will be happy to send over contact information for them to verify. (Most likely ProEV but, cannot be guaranteed at this point)

Risk Assessment and Method Statement (RAMs)

RAMS statement to be requested, However installation is done on behalf of Motability

**The work is being carried out by Ohme, their approved contractor on behalf of Motability, on a HA’s domestic dwelling, not a factory, warhouse, or a block of flats! The approved contractor i.e ProEV contract the work to approved companies who will have a RAMS statement or aproved domestic sole traders who may not have such a statement as their work is solely private domestic work. I would take, that the approved contractor fo Ohme (ProEV) for example, will hold a basic RAMS statement covering their contractors. However, I would speak with Motability and see if one would ifd be available and where you would obtain it from and if this is actually necessary.

Your HA is unintentionally making the process more difficult than it needs to be, by going about it, as if it is a works order for external contract work. They are not the one contracting the work but, I guess it is the only way their system is set up or the way they believe it should work. Remember you are the guinea pig here! The correct way your HA should approach this, is as a typical permission request, where you send them all necessary certification once the work has been completed, as proof it meets current regulations/standards. Similar perhaps to how you requested your garden to be covered by pebbles. Oh how I hated working for HA’s and LA’s and all their pointless bureaucracy!!

I am happy for you to copy or send my answers over to your HA but, please delete my notes directly to yoy prior to doing so 🙂

                                  Probably not!.

Had the hospital platsics clinic this morning, finger isn’t great, keep doing the bending exercises (making a fist trying to get the fingers to fully close) and they’ve given me a spring loaded splint thing that goes over the finger and forces the front half back up vertically to straighten it over time.

Only to be worn at night so it doesn’t interfere with the bending excercises which are in the opposite direction!.  I mentioned the swelling under the main knuckle and severe cramping, apparently all normal, I also asked how long to get more function out of it and she said probably several months 🙁

At least I’m managing to drive OK with it, just sore and cramping afterwards.

Sorry to hear the road to recovery is so long. Hopfully your finger will regain full use and you can put it all behind you. How are your ribs doing?

Rtbs have settled down, leg cuts and scrapes all better 🙂

Tried the finger thing last night, after about 45mins I had to take it off, too painful 🙁

I’ll take a couple of Tramadol tonight and try it again.  I need to improve my grip quite a bit, my main hobby is long distance target shooting, I’m secretary of one of the largest clubs in the North East.  At the moment I just can’t grip well enough to even try shooting, luckily we’ve no more range dates for this year so I have a bit of time to work on it.

I got a reply from Ohme, the references to Pro Ev Charger etc. refer to their installer, Pro Ev, told me to make sure I tell them I want the e-pod when they ask.

Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!

Another email from the HA, they’re having yet another meeting about it this Wednesday (13th)

Sounds about right, I’m sure they learnt from Civil Servants, meet about every decision, then it’s not entirely your fault.

HA’s are very good at making a simple situation into a complex one. Equally they are looking a gift horse in the mouth, considering it, won’t be too many years away before it becomes mandatory that they will be required to fit them by law.

                                                    Who is your HA mate?

They planned a sell off a few months ago to Karbon Homes and spent a small fortune setting it up, having consultation meetings with tenants etc. and then dropped it!.  They’re now working on a 5 year plan with regard to improvements, considering I was told my kitchen uints and wooden windows (which are all dropping to bits) were going to be “replaced shortly” some 12 years ago, and other neighbours were told the same over 15 years go I’m not holding my breath!.

The kitchen in here is the same one I had for 20 years at my previous house before being replaced, couldn’t believe it when I saw it in here!, and in a worse state than the previous one was!.

As you guess they have nothing in place, compared to other HA’s who have or are actively considering offering residents access to the government grant or are taking steps to install them themselves to meet their net zero targets.

Considering in your case, the cost is being met by Motability with no cost to the HA, they are fools if they don’t come to a quick conclusion.

Would you consider having the charger to the right of your door, if Ohme or your HA prefer it over your prefered location?
