There is a lot of knowledge amongst us, I exclude myself.
The COVID 19 is dominating the news:
How worried should we be?
Will this be Spanish flu proportions or just another contained outbreak as SARS and MERS were?
Oh – and when will we start to see ‘Just in time’ manufacturing suffer?

BrydoYes Tommy our guy was about twenty feet away and the drugs where on the ground at the front door, too big to go through the letter box.
March 22, 2020 at 10:30 am #109873There was a bit of a thing about the morphine when I 1st started getting it delivered but they just agreed an adult signing for it was enough.

March 22, 2020 at 6:27 pm #109909Face-to-face health assessments for benefits suspended amid coronavirus outbreak
Claimants on disability benefits will no longer be required to attend face-to-face assessments. The change also covers health checks for Universal Credit.
Face-to-face assessments for all sickness and disability benefits will be suspended for the next 3 months, the government announced today (16 March 2020).
The temporary move, effective on Tuesday 17 March 2020, is being taken as a precautionary measure to protect vulnerable people from unnecessary risk of exposure to coronavirus as the country’s response ramps up in the ‘delay’ phase. We will ensure those who are entitled to a benefit continue to receive support, and that new claimants are able to access the safety net.
It affects claimants of Personal Independence Payment (PIP), those on Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) and some on Universal Credit, and recipients of Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit.
The suspension of face-to-face assessments also covers new claims to those benefits.
Work and Pensions Secretary Thérèse Coffey said:
As we move into the next phase of our response to coronavirus, it is right we take steps to protect those with health problems.
Temporarily suspending face-to-face assessments for sickness and disability benefits will allow us to ensure we continue to provide a safety net for those in need, while removing unnecessary risk of exposure to this disease.
Anyone who has a face-to-face assessment appointment scheduled from Tuesday 17 March onwards does not need to attend and will be contacted to discuss next steps and alternative arrangements, which could involve either telephone or paper-based assessments. We expect this measure will be in effect for the next 3 months but we will be regularly reviewing the position in line with Public Health advice. No further action is required by any claimant as a result of this change. They will be contacted with advice on next steps.
DWP continues to accept new claims for all benefits. Anyone already receiving PIP, ESA, Universal Credit or Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit, will continue to receive their current payments as normal while alternative arrangements are put in place to review or reassess their claim.
Suspending face-to-face health assessments is a precautionary measure which reflects the Prime Minister’s decision to trigger the ‘delay’ phase. It is important to note that this change does not affect or change any existing public health advice.

We’ve just had a FaceTime call with a couple of our Chinese friends, who live in the Guangdong area of China ( just north of Hong Kong, ) and their one year old , and then her parents, each of whom is looking & feeling fine!
They live in a gated property within a gated development, ( for well off Chinese ) and they are livid that people seem to be blasé about the virus and not isolating themselves despite the advice to the contrary?
They are somewhat concerned about what they feel are the inaccuracies in ,and skewed reporting of , the Corona Virus in the British media.
They do not deny that the outbreak started in China, just as they are fully conversant with and accept responsibility for the outbreaks of other viruses which originated there but they feel that not enough cover is being given to the restrictions placed upon them, to try and contain the virus nor to the recovery of so many in the Country, or to their other successes in the fight against this devil.
We explained our situation in that we are in self isolation, I am spending most of each day at the kitchen table, with Mrs 700 and her dog ,using the lounge, and the big TV of course!
Just before our friends called, I was sorting out the spare bedroom for myself to relax in over the next few months?
It has a single bed in it ( in case I wear myself out doing all these recommended exercises) as well as a reclining chair (with footrest), and a small TV loaded with a Now TV entertainment package and Prime Video, with hundreds of TV shows and films, available & of course my trusty iPad , lap top and phones, and several yet unread John Grisham novels , and I have just got me a Nespresso machine out of the loft ( ex M in L’s ) and plugged in a small caravan type fridge which just about holds a couple of milk cartons and a couple of Kit Kat’s – the heating is on, and I have a shower room to myself, so, as I told them, self isolation , ‘ it ain’t too bad’ !.
March 22, 2020 at 8:07 pm #109917on the bbc website today they report this
“The NHS in England is sending letters to people it has identified as particularly vulnerable who should stay home at all times for 12 weeks – not going out for shopping, leisure or travel.
Those at-risk people include those with specific cancers, severe respiratory conditions and people who have received organ transplans.
The government is setting up “hubs” around the country to arrange deliveries of groceries and medicines to them, Communities Secretary Robert Jenrick also explained at the briefing.
Councils, pharmacists and members of the Armed Forces will help this work and there will be opportunities for members of the public to volunteer.
“Nobody needs to worry about getting the food and essential items that they will need,” Mr Jenrick said.
Anyone who is especially vulnerable to the virus can register to get support here.”
so hopefully anyone that is housebound should be able to get help. lets hope it doesnt take too long.

my daughter has the Sainsbury’s delivery service so is having our needs delivered to her, and then dropping it off to us- but no actual contact between us, she calls when she’s arriving and we wave as she drops it off and goes back to the car, and as we pick it up from the doorstep we shout at each other – about 20 feet between us .

PhiljbI’m one of the people in this at risk group I’ve been given advice and an emergency pack by the hospital. The thought of min 12 weeks without seeing my kids or grandkids isn’t a good one, I’m stuck indoors anyway so that bit doesn’t bother me, at least I know I’m safer that way.
@Vinalspin yes morphine is fine delivered as long as you tell them who can sign if you’re not going to be in. One of mine isn’t on the NICE list, in severe cases a consultant can prescribe it, Pharmacies don’t stock it and can only collect it from the hospital as I need tests first.
Everything else comes delivered or in a blister pack.
Then I get biologic meds delivered by a separate company.March 22, 2020 at 11:00 pm #109927Finally got to Asda and it was well stocked with goods, the last week has been a horror showcase the lady on the till explained her thoughts and the lull “the morons have spent up”,she’s probably right too, my wife does a 12 hour shift in a care home so no chance of getting to the shops now until her days off next weekend all fun I suppose.

RichardAbsolutely fuming, all the 2nd home owners have escaped London & it’s busier than August here, the high St is rammed with large groups out for a jolly, the beach car parks are over flowing businesses are so busy some have closed because they’re terrified of how busy they are during this mess.
To cap it off our locality is only kitted out for lower numbers of permanent residents so if these chumps get ill our hospital will be overwhelmed & we have a very high % of elderly locals who are now more at risk due to these thoughtless clots “on holiday”.
Funny how svhools closed Friday & it went to crap Saturday, we’ve even had dozens turning up in caravans ffs.
This will be a disaster, the gov is going to have to order people to their main residence & stay there otherwise there’s going to be huge problems

PhiljbYes it’s gone to pot since schools finished it seems a lot of parents have no idea how to keep kids entertained at home and adults who think none of this applies to them.
This is going to go on and on at this rate.March 23, 2020 at 7:58 am #109938I live on a farm high up in the Yorkshire Dales and yesterday was the busiest day I have ever seen on the local roads. They were full of tourists. Absolute madness.
My brother and sister-in-law run a B&B in both the farmhouse and a converted barn on the other side of the farm. They also have a campsite across two fields. They have closed the B&B and campsite due to Coronavirus, but it hasn’t stopped them being inundated with people making phone enquiries or even knocking on the door and asking for rooms/pitches. All receive a very stern lecture from sis-in-law and told very firmly that the B&B and campsite are closed and are staying closed for the duration.

Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally I get confused and often say the wrong thing.
March 23, 2020 at 10:51 am #109950The mind boggles at the mentality of people who do such things is beyond me.
Having said that about 18 months back a fleet of Firefly charity mini buses had their Catalytic converters stolen. These mini buses are used to transport cancer patients to Sheffield hospital for radiotherapy treatment and return them to home.

PaulGuess the announcement suspending of all face to face appts for new claims of PIP would mean anyone who has had the AR1 review form would most likely have it based on paper review only.I presume as dwp will now have a huge backlog for new claims and suspended face to face appts, they would concentrate on getting new awards off system. To clear up space for new claims face to face .

FootlooseHello all,
went to Tesco this morning as they are doing a special hour for elderly, vulnerable and nhs etc and the staff were fantastic as I entered there was a table manned by two staff issuing one pack of loo roll, paracetamol, wipes and hand wash and the store though in a busy area was quiet and a delight as I’ve experienced the madness over the past few weeks but I had only a basket and what I needed but on returning to the car and thanking everyone I could for their efforts I couldn’t help but shed a few tears for the great side of humanity..please be aware the 9-10 is Monday,Wednesday and Friday ?
March 23, 2020 at 12:28 pm #109955i order some ready meals from wiltshire farm foods for the occasions when i cant stand and cook etc.
usually order once a month and get about 10 meals and some desserts as its difficult getting small desserts for one. and they do the retro stuff crumbles and custard and the like.
anyway went on to order today and they are restricting it to existing customers only so i guess theyve been innundated by people looking for a way around the problems with supermarkets etc.
