        Not so lucky Kezo,

16 weeks for DWP to register the Deputy as Appointee. A further 2 weeks for Deputy to be registered on the lease agreement and now this.

Dotting every i and crossing every t doesn’t come close!

Atleast I’ll finally get rid of the Mazda CX60, even though it’s currently looking mint but unloved until handover day lol 😆

Sorry for the long post, but it’s a strange one! Been trying to order a VW Shuttle for nearly 5 months now, which means an early termination of the horrid Mazda CX60.
The majority of the problems have been unrelated to Motability. Until yesterday. My daughter has a Court of Protection Deputy who was appointed last October after we had her previous Deputy discharged. The problem has been registering the new Deputy with the DWP. This took until last Friday. Except that the drama is far from over.
We now have a vehicle ready for delivery in Birmingham, reserved for us by way of a £1K deposit. Unfortunately though, as I found out yesterday, we cannot terminate the Mazda until the Motability lease agreement has been transferred to the new Deputy, which is fair enough since, as it turns out, the Solicitors have been sat on that particular set of documents for more than 3 weeks without returning them to Motability.
Now here is my problem with Motability. I rang yesterday after the Deputy had been on the phone most of the morning with Motability. I quickly got to the bottom of the issue and what exactly needed to be done to enable us to take delivery of the Shuttle next week. I’ve chased this myself and it will now happen. However, during the call the lovely lady, quite casually, said if we don’t have the completed lease documents returned by Friday we will cancel the agreement anyway!
Quite where we stand in that scenario is totally unknown and I might be overthinking the consequences.

So we have a car we want to send back and pay the £250 early termination fee. We can’t currently do that because the paperwork isn’t up to date. It’s also unlikely to be resolved by the Motability deadline. We have a Shuttle reserved for us ready to pick up next week. The Mazda looks immaculate ready for handover, and had intended driving the Mazda down to Birmingham from Haworth. I’m now worried this might not be possible due to not having insurance cover if Motability do what they say and cancel the agreement on Friday. I’m also worried we might get the Bailiffs calling to take back the Mazda!

I’m inclined just to put off the collection a week until this is all sorted. Atleast we’re blameless in the shambles lol.

And this is all down to the bureaucratic shambles that is the DWP, the Court of Protection and the glacial workings of law firms. We’ve had 4 Motability vehicles whilst I was Appointee and I sorted orders in an hour tops. This debacle is into it’s fifth month!!!

Got a very similar problem with our dreaded Mazda CX60 PHEV. On paper lovely car, in reality absolute lemon without the benefits that an actual lemon would bestow!!

Don’t use it much but deliberately took it to Burnley and drove in petrol mode to ensure alternator was charging the battery for the following day. Or so I thought!

Plugged in overnight and drove to my daughters physio session in Morley. 2 and a half hours later, not a thing working. RAC man tested 12v battery and it indicated 4.7v!!!

Cannot for the life of me work out what could drain the battery so quickly?

Eventually got home and RAC coming Monday to put another battery in at the cost of £311 to Motability. Which will probably end up lasting weeks, by which time I can only hope the thing has gone back. I’m seriously considering just doing without it’s just such a pathetic excuse of a vehicle. Worst car ever. Best car ever – £150 20 year old VW Polo Bread Van. Difference in price ~£55K!!!!

…we’ll be terminating the dreadful Mazda CX60 and ordering a Shuttle ASAP. Fingers crossed 🤞

May I ask what was so bad about the Mazda? Just curious.

There shouldn’t be any problem terminating early for the genuine reasons described.

We’re waiting to get my daughters Professional Court of Protection Deputy registered as her Appointee after transferring from another Deputy. I rang Motability as her nominee and explained the circumstances and her change in needs and they agreed in principle to an early termination.

Luckily for us the VW Transporter Shuttle is back on the Scheme today, with a reduction in AP of £500!

Just need someone at the DWP to tick a box and we’ll be terminating the dreadful Mazda CX60 and ordering a Shuttle ASAP. Fingers crossed 🤞

Glos Guy, That aligns with my experience, with regards being the registered keeper of a vehicle adapted for someone else. In our case we bought a motorhome to enable our daughter to travel, since she is unable to fly after her brain injury. We paid for it from our own gratuitous care and expenses settlement after she won the 10 year battle with the Medical Defence Union. The adaptations are quite substantial including a lift for access (the floor is nearly 4 foot off the ground!), even though she is not a wheelchair user. In total we saved £60K so not to be sniffed at! We’re just trying to procure a VW Transporter Shuttle on the Scheme to replace the unloved Mazda CX60.

That’s good to hear. Thank you for the further clarification of your first hand experience. I will say this quietly, in the hope that Rachel from Accounts (or her cronies) don’t frequent this forum, but I’m surprised that they haven’t put a cap on the maximum retail price for VAT exemption (or a CO2 cap on VED exemption). If I like the car and am tempted to treat myself to the top of the range model then, including the hefty discount that I should be able to negotiate, I would be saving almost £40k in total, thanks to the VAT and VED exemptions. I thought that was impressive, but your £60k saving makes me look like I’m not trying! 😂

instead of over 300 BHP you get only 120 or so and then a hiccup to get the ICE working,  when needed.

I’d hope it’s at least 50% of BHP and you shouldn’t be getting any hiccup, when ICE comes in. However, Mazda had a lot to learn from the CX60, with it being their first. Nice car though!

Mazda CX60 – 2500kg tow capacity and more importantly, the car weighs that as well.

Horrible car though – well the model we got in September 2023. Told the newer version is sorted.

350BHP Petrol 4WD, 0-60 in 5 seconds and PHEV so not that costly to run. Had the Mazda tow package and there’s a towing mode. BUT NEVER TOWED WITH IT!!!

Looked at the CX60 not long after it joined the scheme and the packs were still available – loved the interior.

Booked a 24hr test drive and took it back after 4-5 hours, as it wallowed over bumps and made me feel sick, especially at higher speeds, certainly had the Citron vibe!

At the time of looking, there were already recalls for the suspension and sound insulation, but after reading the forums, I decided agains’t and jumped out of the frying pan into the fire with the Tucson PHEV!

I understand Mazda got to grips with it eventually and todays CX60, is different to when they first came out.

Coming up to 2 years with the car now. All in all, quite easily the most disappointing car I’ve had the misfortune of driving!

The niggles are far too numerous to go into in detail. Save to say, there are many lol.

First and foremost, the ownership experience has been wrecked by just how poorly executed the whole car is. The software onboard is about as reliable as a snakes bowel movement. 8 – I repeat – 8 recalls in a two year period simply isn’t acceptable. It will be back in tomorrow for a new battery ( not the EV one).

The ride is terrible. almost like being on a trampoline doing 50MPH.

For a massive car it’s very cramped inside for the occupants. Boot not very capacious.

The driver safety features are fiendish and intrusive to the point of being downright dangerous. Every one has to be disengaged on every occasion upon starting. Cue every CX60 owner sitting blankly for a full minute whilst sifting the menus. Computer says can’t be switched off or setting stored in memory.

Positives – frugal when running on ICE ( bearing in mind it’s 340BHP!) HUGELY POWERFUL but completely unable to put the power through the wheels without scrabbling. Good job I drive like Reginald Molehusband.

For a £55K car it’s hopeless. To think I traded my daughter’s 12 year old up turned pram Fiat 500 for it!!

Anyone thinking of getting one – DON’T. There are many better cars available.

Quite surprised that Omoda 9 is not going to be on the scheme. Considering it’s a great way for companies to get cars on the road in the UK for people to see. There has been no mainstream review on social media. I was considering this or a Mazda cx60 or Skoda Kodiaq, guess just two to choose from.

Considering it’s cost I believe if folk were looking at a car outside of the scheme Omoda 9 would be low on people’s list, if they even new of it existing at all. I only heard if it because of motion clarity posting about new cars coming to the scheme.

Have you considered the Mazda CX60?  Only PHEV available on MB and was heavily criticised on release, as described by Glos guy. Now heavily revised, with spring and damper rates adopted from big brother cx80, new EV/ gearbox integration etc. not perfect, but made in Japan build quality, no touchy feely bs buttons and Toyota tech hybrid engine. A lot of car from £3999 ap. the long bonnet is there to accommodate a straight six 3.3 diesel here and petrol in the USA. Tests say it achieves 50 mpg with ease for a big torquey lump and makes you wonder why a 1.5/1.6 PHEV cannot get close on a run.

Good to see the Homura model bundled with both the Convenience and Driver assistance packs again. The removal of these essential but expensive (to add as options) packs bundled with the car pretty much knocked the CX-60 off our shortlist last year (along with the mediocre reviews).

You’re kind of missing the point, but anyway where are you getting your figures ? a puma 155bhp takes nearly 9 seconds to 60, the above cars do it in 6 and the AWD ioniq 5 in under 5 seconds, monumental difference to a beginner driver plus they have huge instant torque which is dangerous when a novice tries to accelerate around a bend or corner and kills someone

1.0l ST 7.4s but its the 168 not 155 I thought it had, which isn’t much behind the Enyak 6.7s etc, however, I get what your saying but, I can’t see a 25yr old wanting an ioniq 5 or Enyak or a Mazda cx60, Rav4 (Across) PHEV, which are also 300+ bhp <6s

Whats the excess for a 25yr old inexperienced driver?

As those who have been following my thread ‘The Search Begins’ will know, my wife and I have been struggling to find a car that she can get in and out of easily. Of the cars that we liked (sadly very few these days on Motability) the Mazda CX60 was too high for her, the BMW 3 Series Touring was too low and the Mazda CX-5 and Hyundai Tucson were pretty good but don’t have proper grab style interior door handles. The best car for access was the BMW iX1 but we don’t really want an EV until the technology improves and I didn’t like the EV driving experience. Sadly, the new X1 petrol isn’t on the scheme and probably won’t ever be (although the PHEV might – which could be a possibility, subject to a test drive).

Motability have allowed us to extend the lease on our current petrol X1 by 2 years, so the pressure is off thankfully (especially as we really like our current car and there’s nothing on the scheme now that we’d prefer to it), but during that conversation I mentioned the challenges that we are having and Motability are kindly referring us to the nearest enablement centre, where various driver and passenger aids can be demonstrated. We are also going to attend the next Motability Big Event in Exeter (never been before) and have combined it with a couple of days in Devon.

One of the things mentioned on the call was a ‘Person Hoist’ which would lift my wife from her wheelchair into the front passenger seat and vice-versa. My wife isn’t terribly keen on the idea as she “feels disabled enough without advertising the fact” (her words), but it has struck me that if we went with one of these it would address the current challenge of most cars being too low or too high.

                                                So my questions are this. Does anyone have experience of one of these person hoists and if so;

How easy are they to use? (I believe that they use a sort of sling – how easy is that to get in and out of for a full time wheelchair user who cannot stand unaided?)

Does the process take a long time (just envisaging doing it in the rain etc)?

Assuming that the mechanism lives in the car, how obtrusive is it when stowed (front passenger seat)? Does it make it awkward for an able bodied passenger to use the front passenger seat (get in the way etc)?

Any first hand feedback or advice would be much appreciated.

No problem Glos guy. Hopefully something comes on the scheme that meets your needs. Good thing is you like your current so you can just wait for the right car to come along, that was our plan. We’re on a two year extension and always planned to keep the car for about four years. I think it’s awful that Motability have stopped the two year lease extensions at the same time as the AP prices going up especially with the limited selection of ice cars.

Thanks. I agree with you. Off to the Mazda dealership today to see what my wife makes of the CX-60 and CX-5.

fingers crossed you find something, the the CX5 and CX60 look fantastic

Mazda XC60 six months in and nearly 3k milesto be honest we;re quite disappointed with Mazda’s so called flag ship as I see it brought out, unproven. Our’s has been in for 2 urgent DVLA recalls one of which took 3 hours with me in the showroom and after 2 and a half hours was offered a drink can’t compare that to BMW service department (previous car X1)

The good, love the car especially the colour Soul Red Crystal and it;s a head turner I was sat in Tesco’s car park chap really gave it the once over and I was still sat in it quite odd,

Entertainment is very good with wireless apple car play and Bose speakers.

The headup display is better than my BMW was,it’s almost twice the size.

Acceleration is rapid as you would expect with 323hp and AWD. Boot size is very good with 570 litres

The bad: The 39 mile electric range is a joke I’ve only ever managed 2.3 miles kwh

hopefully it will improve with the weather, fingers crossed.

In EV mode, the car is a little slow to pull away, while you can hear too much noise from the electric motors, and every so often there’ll be a pronounced lurch or thump from the transmission. Mazda’s premium rivals are streets ahead in this respect.  .(taken from auto express) but very true, Seats we find ok if a little bit high getting in and out. The biggest problem though is the suspension I’d liken it to 1960s Land Rover leaf springs brilliant on smooth surface but not many left in this country!

So to sum up if you’ve any loose dentures or fillings I‘d steer clear of the CX60

If BMW X1 2.0 litre petrol comes back on I will return this and pay the £250 with pleasure
