Looking for some advice for ordering a Tayron.

We needs a large SUV that has a boot big enough to take two wheelchairs – but cannot have a van due to the depth of our drive and opening a big door at the back of a van – so SUV only.

Had a look at the Kodiaq too – but not good value on the scheme (Sportline) missing many features that come standard on Tayron elegance at the roughly the same AP.

80% of our driving is in town – so hoping to order a PHEV as we have a plug outside the property to use a Granny charger .

OVO Energy have a deal whereby if you add “Charge Anytime”, you get unto 30,000 free miles of EV charging over 3 years of you buy a VWG car. My current energy tariff expires in early October, and if I order a Tayron this week it would arrive in early November – so that seems to have panned out nicely.

I have searched for posts regarding ordering a Tayron on this forum but as of yet I can’t see anyone here having placed an order for one.

I know there is a depth of expertise on this forum, so just wondering on any thoughts or advice?

      Thank you in advance.

Sounds like a good choice, but I’d check if the OVO deal applies if your VAG car is leased, rather than purchased. Hopefully it does, but some car manufacturer deals are for retail customers only.

Glos Guy and PaulH – thank you both for your wonderful response.

I hadn’t realised that the OVO offer only applies “Fully electric” vehicles – how i missed that wa alarming.

This valuable response has now thrown a spanner in the works.

Was initially planning on the Elegance (AP £4799) plus winter pack (£425). Was hoping the OVO offer would offset this but hey ho.

Glad i came here and asked- so perhaps may look into the E-5008 even though the OVO offer would not apply to this. However , we currently have a 2021 Peugeot 5008 1.5 HDI so wanted something a bit different.

Well at least i have something to think about – officially the boot on the E5008 is 50 litres bigger so may suit us better.

A few days back to the drawing board I suppose…..

              @zaheeruk

If you are looking at the E-5008, various Peugeot dealers are offering £1000 off its AP for orders submitted by the end of June 25, for example Pentagon in Barnsley and Snows in Romsey Hampshire etc (see the sticky Deals & Special Offers thread).

It should certainly help towards off-setting the loss of the OVO offer.

The 5008 range has changed quite a bit since 2021!

Thank you @BigDave – I noticed the offer at Snows Hampshire (which is way too far for me) but hadn’t realised the same offer at Barnsley (much closer to me at about 30 miles).

The only problem we have is having to take my wife (who is the main carer for both of our severely disabled children) with us to order. This is difficult as she does not drive and we can’t leave any of the kids at home who require 1-1 care. Dealers will not place an order without the presence of the official appointee (understandable).

                  @Kezo
                  – will definitely be worth having a look. The only issue I have is officially our current model has a boot capacity of 850 litres – the new one is 910 litres – yet when I saw a new E-5008 a few backs the boot on it actually looked smaller! I actually need to look into how boot size is calculated (to the roof or to the top of back of the seat? )

Thanks you all again in helping with your advice!

Going back to the Tayron – There are many EV tariffs to choose from, with some, as cheap as intelligent tariffs from Octopus & Ovo, such as Eon Next drive, which gives 7hrs of cheap rate charging you can use to charge the car and do the laundry etc. With Ovo Anytime, you can only charge the car.

I have a Tucson PHEV, which has around half the range of the Tayron, and it’s costing a little over £4 to cover 400 miles a month soley taking my daughter to and from school, using standard Octopus Go @ 8.5p Kwh (7p kwh if I changed to EON next drive.) si it’s not the end of the world.

An EV would get better range per Kwh, than any PHEV and would be cheaper to run if you can have a charger fitted at home. I’d also suggest looking at the Enyak (585l boot), as that should accomondate two wheelchairs and will allow you to take advantage of OVO’s offer.

@kezo You’ve just read my mind! I was just looking at reviews and videos of the Enyaq. My local dealer is a little under 2 miles away so I’m going to take both wheelchairs down and see how they fit!

The £1799 offer for a Enyaq 85x Sportline seems an incredible deal, but the dealership offering this are way too far from me. I hope that my local DM Keith dealership are willing to match this but not keeping my hopes too high . Another advantage – I presume the OVO offer of 10,000 miles free would apply to this. The only thing I’ve noted is the relatively dark black interior – so perhaps a Pan roof is a must! Winter pack with rear heated seats and climate windscreen in my opinion is a no-brainer!

We’ve never had an all out electric car so not entirely sure how it will work in terms of range – particularly scared about our cold winter mornings and how that will impact the electric range (some seem to advise preheating the vehicle whilst on charge – although unclear if this means heating the cabin too).

But once again , thanks for all the responses an advice – you guys are magic!

Here’s why preheating while charging is a good idea:
                        Energy Source:
When preheating while plugged in, the car draws power from the charging source (the grid) rather than the battery, preserving battery capacity for driving.
                        Battery Health:
Preheating the battery to its optimal temperature range before driving improves charging efficiency and battery performance, particularly in colder temperatures.
                        Comfort:
Preheating the cabin makes for a more comfortable driving experience, especially in extreme weather conditions.
                        Convenience:
Many EVs allow you to schedule preheating through the car’s system or a mobile app, so you can have a warm or cool cabin ready when you’re ready to drive.

There is more than one dealer in the offers and cashback topic giving £500 off, including my local dealer £700 across the Skoda range. It’s certainly worth showing DM Kieth the offers avaible on the site and asking them to match. If of course the Enyak is suitable.

You don’t need a climate windscreen, as you pre defrost/heat the cabin from the app before leaving home. If 80% of your journeys are local, I wouldn’t worry about the range, as the Enyak will do 200+ miles during colder weather.

                          @Phaedra
is a honest person to ask on the Enyak and knows far more than me about the car 🙂

                            @Kezo 😂😛

Winter range on my 85X is around 180 – 220 but I don’t try for economy.  Summer is currently about 285 – 300 predicted with a real range of 270-280.  Given that I can charge at home for 7p the range is largely irrelevant as I can top up about 50-55% overnight for £1.85 .

Worst month so far was this January, I did over 500 miles for the vast cost of £19.58 !!!

As for the heated windscreen, I got it as part of the Advanced pack (£2035), complete waste of money apart from the HUD 👍   It really isn’t needed, 15-25mins pre heating the car will melt it (and the side and rear windows) with the added benefit of a nice warm car to get into.

Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!

First and foremost, can I thank you all for your insightful advice in helping us to choose our next vehicle.

It has been quite stressful, but your advice has certainly brought many issues that we did not even think or notice to the forefront. Perhaps you are someone who is in the same boat as us, and might be interested in our thoughts regarding the Tayron v Kodiaq v Peugeot E-5008 v Skoda Enyaq. So I have been hopping around between our local dealerships lugging around the two wheelchairs in the back which I could use to get a real world impression of boot space taking our requirements into account. The figures quoted by the manufacturers regarding boot size in litres, much like they quote WLTP figures, are somewhat meaningless.

Currently, we have a 2021 Peugeot 5008 1.5 BlueHDI pretty much picked up after Covid. The car no longer suits our needs as the vast majority of our driving (>80%) is local. Therefore it makes sense to get an electric vehicle in our opinion.

The Skoda Enyaq 85x Sportline – having looked at it today I managed to get both wheelchairs in at a squeeze. However, my youngest may get a bigger wheelchair within the next 2 years so it may not be wise to choose this. The AP for the Sportline 85x is incredible at £1799 (with £500 off).

The Skoda Kodiaq PHEV 1.5Tsi eHybrid – lovely car , incredibly comfort seats, and great dashboard. However, the top of the range sportline (AP £4699)  model still has lots of kit (Area View etc) missing and are optional extras. The boot in the PHEV was fantastic and by far the best. Managed to get both wheelchairs stacked one above the other with plenty of space around for shopping bags and medical equipment. Boot size quoted at 705 litres which is alarming – considering ours in the 5008 is 850 litres – yet this boot in the Kodiaq seemed bigger and better with a depth of 115cm compared to 105 cm in out current 5008. But not getting the bang for the buck.

The Peugeot E-5008 GT is incredible value with the current £1000 discount offer – at at an effective AP of £1999 its a brilliant car for the money – however I found the boot in this smaller than our current 2021 5008 – even though the on paper it was supposed to be slightly bigger at (910 litres compared to 850 litres). Loved the the updated dashboard and interior led lighting. Also missing “Auto-Hold” – surely this is something that can be programmed in!

VW Tayron 1.5TSi eHybrid Elegance – Finally, back to square by the sounds of it. Tayron Elegance it is then. Not R-Line you might ask? The elegance has more kit at a lower AP. The R-Line does have the fancy bumper, and all the other exterior kit – more cosmetic than functional in our opinion. The Elegance has the bells and whistles though – which include Area View and Electric Tail Gate – which is a must for a car of this I think. Perhaps another win on this is the Adaptive Suspension (DCC Pro) which comes as standard on all PHEV models.

I must add that I never got to see the actual boot on the Tiguan PHEV as there are hardly around at any dealerships close to us – thus the assumption that it should be the same as the Kodiaq being built on the same platform and whatnot.

So, the order has been placed for white Tayron Elegance at our local JCT600. We’ve specced the Winter Pack too at £425, but I guess that I will be having this removed tomorrow after the advice received on this forum!

                              Thank you all!

PS I can’t believe that I’ve written all this!

The Tayron being PHEV, unlike a pure EV, wont have pre-conditioning, so you might won’t to keep the winter pack!

After speaking with the VW dealership this morning, and also seeing comments on forums, it appears that you can actually preheat the interior of a Tayron PHEV (assuming it will be the same as the Tiguan eHybrid). Many users say that you can set schedules and departure times from the VW App. Sorry if have misunderstood this and happy to be corrected!

To preheat the interior of a Volkswagen Tayron PHEV, you can utilize the car’s climate control system through the infotainment touchscreen or the Volkswagen app. The specific steps may vary slightly depending on the exact model year and software version, but generally involve accessing the climate control settings and setting the desired temperature and fan speed, or using the pre-conditioning feature if available.
                                      Here’s a more detailed explanation:
                                      1. Using the Infotainment System:
                                      Access Climate Control:
Locate the climate control icon on the main screen (usually at the bottom).
                                      Adjust Settings:
Use the touch sliders or menus within the climate control section to set the desired temperature and fan speed.
                                      Activate Pre-conditioning (if available):
Some Tayron PHEV models may have a dedicated pre-conditioning or pre-heat function within the climate control settings, allowing you to schedule or immediately activate the heating function.
                                      2. Using the Volkswagen App:
Connect the car: Ensure your car is connected to the Volkswagen app.
Access Climate Control: Navigate to the climate control section within the app.
Adjust Settings: Set the desired temperature and fan speed.
Activate Pre-conditioning: If available, use the pre-conditioning function within the app to start heating the car remotely.

                                      Seat Heating:
If your Tayron PHEV is equipped with heated seats, you can also activate them through the infotainment system or the app, further enhancing interior comfort.

If you have the optional heated steering wheel, you can activate it through the same system or app, depending on the specific model features.

I didn’t know that and was under the impression it’s not possible in the UK, due to the need to start the engine, but could be used in other countries.

I suggest you be led by the dealer and those on forums who have a ehybrid, rather than me 😂!

@PaulH thank you for pretty much confirming the possibility of this feature.

Presumably this is possible if the PHEV is on charge – therefore eradicating the need for starting the combustion engine? Of course as you’ve said running the engine and leaving the vehicle unattended is illegal.
