And this is the outside of the beast…

And, on jets again, it seems that Jaguar ain’t the only ones having a go; Mitsubishi are playing with the idea too:

Design study from last year. Few details released but my guess is that the box above one of the axles is the jet which is used to charge the battery not as main source of power. Pic of body (fuselage?) to follow…
Welcom back, Miz G. Was a bit worried by your absence so glad to hear from you. Weather, like yours, mixed. Lots of the wet stuff, at least 2in yesterday, and actually had two big thunder rumbles. Sunny and warmer right now; most enjoyable, jolly pleasant.
Love your sister’s naming conventions. There was a Charles the Bald at one time, although perhaps that’s bad karma for a feline. When I was a wee lad my uncle had a cat which bore a remarkable resemblance to a chap’s hairpiece. I grew up thinking that “Wig” was a name people gave to their cats – seriously, not making this up.
Meanwhile, back at the weather, it’s been mild, wet and really rather nice. Jolly pleasant to stand in some light, warm rain and enjoy the sounds and scents of summer.
Toad God has hopped off somewhere. Left a plague of frogs to look after his lawn. The grass is starting to look very green – at last!
Or run the whole thing off a small low-bypass turbofan (Jaguar’s fantasy drive). Run the rears from the core and use bleed air from the bypass for the front. In fact, the bleed air could reduce drag through blown matrices in body (like the Buccaneer wing). Sorry. All totally silly. I just like jet engines. One moving part (in theory) and such a super sound!
G0-faster flames standard on VRS. Air dam and alloys extra. The 3×3 drive is also standard although I really cannot see how it would work – bendy chains final drive?
If last year is anything to go by, then Q4 is better than Q1. Lots of really interesting stuff available in Q4 2019 – Alfa Giulia; Audi Quattro types; Good selection of Merc’s plus Audi A3 and A4 etc. On 1 Jan 2020 most diasappeared and were not seen again. Might be different this year. Who knows?
OK, that seems to work. Here’s the other excluded model. The VRS Tribattro 3×3 V6 biturbo…

Tried to post another couple of pix. Didn’t happen. Hope I haven’t broken it. Will try one at a time.
First – Invacar model to be banned from scheme. Cabrio VRS turbo

Sadly agree, the Passat 190 will probably disappear soon. Mini Phev comes close but once you’ve used up the battery bit, you’re left with a small 3-cyl lump pulling a quite heavy vehicle. Better bets are the Countryman 2.0L 4x4s – a few tenths slower to 60 but with the 4×4 cutting in you’ll not notice. If you’re happy with a smaller car there is, of course, the Cooper S 3-dr hatch. Main appeal of latter being its two-door design making entry/exit easier for folks with mobility issues! lol
Some talk of Invacars on here so, when they’re reintroduced, I suggest we organise F1 style races to spite the Daily Flail and prove that anything can be enjoyable to drive.

Some sources say that the larger engined one (600cc Steyr Puch 2-cyl making 24.5bhp) had a power-to-weight ratio matching a BMW M5 and would hit 82mph.
@wmcforum Thanks for looking into it. Have logged on and tried as you suggest. Tried new snaps and others which posted previously with no probs. All I get is this message:
“The image could not be uploaded. Please check that it is a valid JPEG, PNG, or GIF file and that the file size is not too large.”
They are JPEGS and small enough.
Joss – Mota’ canoe? Nice idea. Now, if they upped the AP they might offer a single-seat hovercraft. Up for that definitely – air-cushion driving has been described as “best fun you can have with all your clothes on”. Done it a couple of time and quite agree.
Greeting from We(s)t Sussex coast. Rain more like solid wall of water – horizontal and seemingly permanent. Cold. Windy – force 7 or 8. According to car altimeter (??) 22ft asl. Hope that will be enough – sea is quarter mile away and BIG.

Might just get a Lightning in if mounted on tail and pointing straight up. However, this might involve considerable flack from neighbours and parish authorities and marching orders from Mrs T.
Hardly fair, really, considering that the French councils stick Mirages on roundabouts everywhere.

February 14, 2020 at 6:55 pm in reply to: A few pictures of aeroplanes for those who enjoy such things. #106612Gothitjulie – how very true. Modern aircraft with re-heat are whisper quiet compared even to airliners of the 50s/60s. The standard early 707s had a soundprint equal to or sometimes greater than Concorde. Lovely Comets could be more than quiet too! I had the very good luck to get a press pass to Lockheed’s stand at a Fairford air tattoo. The enclosure was very close to runway, from which Concorde did a fantastic t/off with all crackers lit. Now THAT was an impressively BIG sound.
Also agree with Wigwam. It is a bit quiet here. Will try to dig out ancient Farnboro snaps and get them up here.
Must agree, Brydo – seasons 1 and 2 were good. Stuff that followed was rather flat and I stopped watching. Claire Danes is remarkably good, though. Excellent in Homeland but even better in the film adaptation of Gaiman’s Stardust as the very grumpy fallen angel.

February 10, 2020 at 11:52 am in reply to: Whats the weather like where you are today take 2 #106082Brydo – my deepest sympathy and concern. Hate and dread snow here – narrow unadopted roads, no gritting, no 4X4.
My “can-order-now” date was 19 December and I got the letter from Motability on the 5th December (dated 4th). So it seems they post out some two weeks before your can-order date. Thus, yours should arrive about 14 February. Hope this helps.
Yup. Rain became horizontal this afternoon. Now clear; wind moderating but I don’t trust it to continue improving.
WINDY! Sorry to shout but this Ciara bird is making so much noise you wouldn’t hear a normal voice. Just started to rain and will get v. heavy, I suspect. Dog will refuse to go for walk. I will get to grips with a slow-cooked brisket pot-roast in hope that comfort-food will make it better…
Think Joss has a very pertinent question: “Charging costs. will we be ripped off once everyone goes electric?”
Given the behaviour of all governments since God was a boy, answer has got to be “YES”. I am old enough to remember the days before diesel cars became popular and available. Diesel fuel was considerably cheaper that petrol; soon as people started using oil burners, up goes the tax to make it more than petrol.
Once we are all totally dependent on new mega-battery cars with 500+ mile range, the revenue people will have us over a barrel and will tax us to the hilt.
February 8, 2020 at 4:10 pm in reply to: A few pictures of aeroplanes for those who enjoy such things. #105835You are so right, Georgie. Farnborough was a wonderful display. I went in the 50s and 60s when only British aeroplanes were on show (this was before the USA demolished our aviation industry). As above, I saw the Vulcan rolled. Also some amazing one-offs: the Fairey Rotodyne, VTOL airliner lifting on a giant rotor, spun on bleed air from two turboprops (if you think Chinooks are loud, should have heard this). Two-seat Harrier (G-VTOL) flown by test pilot John Farley in pure vertical take off and then straight up, no leaning, to about 10-15,000ft. Or Black Arrows aerobatic team flying nine Lightnings – the sound and physical experience of 18 Avons coming in to re-heat at the same time never forgotten.
I have much more and some good snaps (not mine) of the early shows. I could post some of these photos here if folks are interested (and if I can work out how to do it!)
