Bit of rain overnight. Clearing up, allegedly, by 11am. Current garden temperature 21C, probably heading for mid-2os. Less cloud, more sun.
Forecast for weekend pretty good – bright, clear and hot.
What a fantastic creature! Brilliant spot and snap by @DumfriesDik Always keen to hear of different flying things which need to be seen. This one’s a doozy!
21C already. Not quite perfectly clear with a few pretty cumulus clouds scudding about. Forecast max of 25C; a bit pessimistic – reckon it’ll get to 27+ .
And, a very happy Midsummer’s Day to all 😎
Yesterday we saw the first swallows and martins of this year’s batch together with some warblers.
20C at 6am; forecast is for 24C later but it’ll do more than that – 27/28C maybe. Bright, clear etc.
Yup, @POPS same here. Garden gauge hit 27C about 11am and has sat there ever since. Am thinking that I should cook a paella tomorrow to add a proper Mediterranean feel. We’ve got a relatively warm sea lapping at beach all we’d need for a complete feel-alike would be the comfy fast launch. Any Cranchi will be fine.

Aaaaah…
Bad stuff: The broken NHS. Advice: don’t get sick. If you do, try to avoid going to A&E (at least in Worthing). Because whatever condition you rfeport with, they’ll kill you with something else.
Good stuff: Electoral system and independent judges. Almost impossible to get a Trump-like PM, there again, Der Fuhrer Nigel would love it and, if he got in, our constitution has the “orders in council” procedure which can be used in a dictatorial manner just like the Orange One’s proclamations.
22C right now. Met office maximum says 25C but I think it’ll go to 27C as it did yesterday. Needless to say – bright, clear and sunny; light winds too.
Same here. 7am temperature 17C. Forecast 21C but reckon it’ll be 25C at least in back garden. Forecast at present is clear and sunny for the available future with temperatures getting towards 30C.
In fact, just saw a piece of BBC which quotes the Met Office as saying that 40C or more is 20 times more likely than in the 1960s and that present-day heatwaves might last a month or more.
20C right now. Bright, totally clear as the forecast says it will be all day. Reckon temperature will peak at about 25/26C. Much watering required for baskets, boxes etc.
Reading 19C in garden right now. Reckon it’ll go to about 23/24C later. Bright, clear and sunny if a bit hazy.
ASDA Extra Special All Butter Chocolate Chip Shortbread are really very good. However, when I can manufacture a “special occasion” it has got to be M&S “Outrageously Chocolatey” range. Some have more chocolate than biscuit. Try to keep them away from guests – they go too quickly!
23C at the moment. Expect it’ll get to 25C later. Started well wet and grey (last bit of last night’s thunderstorms). Now 100% clear and sunny. Next week looking same as with higher temperatures.
Positively Mediterranean here today. Peaked at 27C, still doing 25C now. Bright, clear, sunny until about 5.30pm when the first thunder rumbles could be heard from the west. Said to be quite a storm on its way.
18C heading for 22C (allegedly). Pretty grey right now. Thunderbolts and lightning forecast as possible from 11am to 2pm then getting sunny.
16C and very, very grey. Not cloud though. Sea mist which is promised to burn off soon and leave perfect clear sky. With a mox of 21/22C.
AND ornithology “hold the front page” – first swift glimpsed this morning – nine days short of midsummer. Hmmmm
Cloudy but bright. Forecast to clear a bit, later. 22C now; should make 24-ish mid p.m.
Thanks for ornithological stuff @kezo Thought it was just me. Googled it and seems that quite a few regions are having a late arrival of all summer visitors. Odd, particularly since down here on Sussex coast we are in a major arrival route from mainland Europe. Will continue scanning – best flying guest so far has been one of the two-seat Spitfires doing “trips round the bay”. Aaah! The music of the Merlin!
Bright, sunny, bit of cloud, 18C and will get warmer. Good forecast for later in week – max temp of 25/26C or maybe more.
Now, going slightly off-topic… we weather watchers often have our eyes turned to the sky. Well, I do – to clock the bird life, peregrines and even an occasional eagle. Has anyone seen this years’ crop of swallows, swifts and martins? It is nearly midsummer and I have not seen one. In the past, I have clocked them as early as first week in April. So is it just me or are they seriously late this year?
Amber Met Office thunderstorm storm warning lasting until 6pm. Doing 20C now; some sun, some cloud. Said clouds are scudding in from the west and can clearly be seen building into cumin thunderclouds. Bases of system radiating that odd purple colour indicating that Met off ain’t joking. I reckon a 50/50 chance of some big loud wet stuff.
14C, cloudy with sunny bits once in a while. More sunny bits p.m. says forecast. Tomorrow looks well wet with possible thunderstorms. So, all together then…
Thunderbolts and lightning,
Very, very fright’ning,
Ooooh…
Gallileo..Â
EtcDamp, wet, soggy. And it refuses to advance above 15C.
Quite sunny, some “fair-weather” clouds scudding about. Doing 18C right now, expect it to try for 22C later.
Thanks to all of you for your kind words about our pots, baskets and boxes. Must confess that the hanging baskets are bought complete/filled from local farm charity which caters for disabled youngsters. Very lucky to have this facility to hand; they really deliver 100% – tried doing baskets ourselves but found that quality of mail-order and garden-centre plants was rubbish. Up to 50% of them simply died. Moreover, the farm baskets have water-retaining blocks inside really help the thirsty beasts. Overall, hanging baskets are trying to grow loads of stuff in a tiny amount of soil/compost and need special preparation and special plants to stand a chance.
All the other stuff – boxes, floor pots etc are DIY, mostly home-grown from seed or items salvaged from previous year and persuaded to survive the winter (no greenhouse!).
Put this one up because it shows the effect the pots. baskets etc. have on the whole front of house. Brightens the whole thing up delightfully. We actually get requests from delivery people and passers-by if we are a bit late getting the display under way.
Purple petunias doing very well and hiding their hanging basket! Feeding and dead-heading really, really does boost the number of flowers you get. That’s all the snaps for the moment. Will post more if I find anything interesting enough.
Weather today – 18C right now will probably hit 22/23C like yesterday. Met office site shows small but friendly clear sun for most of the day – no cloud.
Front again, window box is centre right.
This was a new “hanging bag” thingey we tried out. Dead easy to fill and put up, look great but are a real sod to water. Irrigation has to go in very slowly or it just spills out of the top. Wouldn’t recommend.
