Hello everyone,
EON are introducing smart charging similar to Intelligent Octopus Go – https://www.eonnext.com/tariffs/next-drive/smart?utm_source=web
“Whenever you schedule your car to charge using the Next Connect app, your electricity will be billed at 6.7p per kWh – even if this is outside the off-peak window. On top of this youβll get the regular off-peak hours between 12am and 7am, giving you the longest and cheapest off-peak window on the market.”
However, at the moment only VW group EVs seem to be compatible. They dont seem to control smart charging via Ohme chargers.
hi @gazzagaz, do you have a 3 phase power supply at home. If not, you can only have a 7KW charger. So check your mains for feasibility of having a 22kw charger. If you dont have 3 phase supply, DNOs can charge anywhere between Β£2-5K for upgrade, which you will have to factor into any cost saving.
If you already have 3 phase supply, the question is whether you drive more than 150-200miles each day or you cant charge at night? if not, cheap off peak charging with EON or Octopus will give 50kwh per night, which is good enough for 150 miles.
If you do drive more than that often, then it is the cost of public charging for extra vs. cable and 22kw charger installation costs. Motability only give Ohme which is 7KW. If you need 22kw, think it will be at your own cost.

I have switched to EON and had to set OHME tariff manually. Otherwise all good.
Some of the old SMETS1 smart meters work with only certain suppliers but not all. I moved to EON from intelligent octopus. However, EON could not get the half hourly meter readings automatically. So worth checking the meter at https://smartmetercheck.citizensadvice.org.uk/
Meter number would be on the bill.
I live in a small building with 10ish flats and most of my street is made up of houses with driveway. I asked neighbours in next door app whether I can use their charger for off peak charging (+fee on top if that would help). 3 of them were kind enough to allow me use their charger at cost price. My recommendation is worth trying it unless you have other concerns about it.
February 17, 2025 at 11:26 am in reply to: Electricity tariffs and setting up of EV home charging procedures #297818Anyone here switched from intelligent Octopus Go to EON Next drive? I would like to know their switching experiance, esp.,
- how long it took to switch from their flex to next drive tariff?
- Does Ohme recognise the off peak tariff and smart charge accordingly or would I have to create a schedule?
- Does it slow or impact the charging rate when using Ohme home smart charger?
I’m on IOG and planning to switch to to EON Next drive. I dont drive my EV much (200 miles per month school time, 500 on term hols max). Main motivation is to get washer dryer finish at 7ish and move more morning usage to cheap rate.
Answers much appreciated!
I have had my MY25 RWD Ultimate with tech pack for almost 2 months now and love it π
I home charge and mostly do short distances. Hence dont worry about battery. I start climate conditioning before each drive for 10 minutes and have aircon always on and blowing. Still I get 180 miles on full battery and its says 40% of battery went on heating.
I had one long drive for 260 mile on Christmas day. I did DC fast charge out of curiosity/nervousness. It did charge 40% battery within 10ish minutes on 350KW charger π Later calculated that I would have reached with 4% battery if I didn’t charge. So have assumed 250ish as range on safer side for my driving and heating preferences.
You would probably get better real world range from people who have done frequent long distances.
Size is slightly bigger that it looks. Wheelbase is huge and it is great for rear seat passengers. Width of rear seat is better than most cars on scheme. For me, it was an important criteria.

PS.
guys who are picking up their car, please make sure the bluelink app works and test whether remote functions work (like climate control).
When I took delivery, I had connection issues. Dealer said it could be their network is down and it still doesnt work. Looks like they have something wrong with the ccNc unit and need to reset stuff in dealer mode. I now have an appointment on early Feb, 2 months since delivery. Hope they fix it then.
I regret not insisting on having it working on delivery. They would have sorted it much sooner π
That’s what I have done.
Local MP sent them a supportive letter and put in touch with local property lawyer. I replied that they were breaching absolute lease covenants (freeholder cant approve breaches without modifying all leases), where my EV charger was a breach of qualified covenant which freeholder has to agree on reasonable grounds.
Now, they want to move the charger inside of the garage and keep the car parked there at all times, even though one of the directors park outside the garages. Seems petty…, but atleast it means I have an option. Thanks to park assist in ioniq 5, I can move my car in and out of garage without being inside.
I’m going to insist directors remediate their breaches (share of freehold, directors are also leaseholders) first and only then I do mine.
Thanks Mark. When I took the vehicle they said maybe there is a network issue, looks like it is not the case. I have also emailed bluelink europe email. Hope that works, if not will go to dealer as advised.
My car recognises speed limit changes and will adjust the ACC or HDA accordingly if you trigger the change. All I have to do is flick the switch down or up (new speed lower or higher) and itβll change. The switch is, on mine, on the right side of the steering wheel and is the little toggle switch you can adjust speeds with below the ACC On/Off button.
I didnt know that I had to flick the speed change switch. Thought it was automatic. Will pay attention next time and hope it works!
Thanks a lot for the reply @1203. I guess you meant 3.5 miles per kwh, if so that is great. I live in greater London and was planning a drive to Weymouth and back. Its about 250 miles and wouldnt need to charge on way if I get 3.5 miles per kwh π
Thanks on the mats. Where did you get the boot liners, from Hyundai or outside. Appreciate if you can provide links to same.
thanks again!
@1203, Very nice and looks awesome.Β Congrats and hope you enjoy it.
I’m picking mine this weekend. Were floor mats and boot liner included?
thanks a lot Mark. That is quite helpful.

@PS was your car on the isar highway and not the morning cecilie? I think mine is on the MC due to Tilbury l no on the 9th Can you let me know how long from dock to dealer works out when that happens?
The status has again changed saying it is on way to retailer. But I’m not sure when the car landed in Tilbury. looks like isar highway just docked today so unlikely to be it
Thanks @Abercol and @cmartindale74. Looks like I would need anything from Hyundai other than dashcam. Even it, assuming it can be connected to 12v socket
Thanks @ianp. I didnt know that. Have no idea how the Kenwood fits in. Will check with dealer.
Kenwood is the dashcam-front and rear.
Thanks for the tip, will see whether me being nice works at my dealer!
Hyundai tracking website says my car is in port π Not sure how long it takes to get to the retailer and for delivery?
On a funny note, the ship I was tracking (thought was transporting my car) for more than a month now is still somewhere near Senegal\Gambia :). I was tracking the wrong ship
thanks a lot for clarification
yes, same Eden in Wokingham
Strange, same dealer, same ship but different months π
Same here.. ship reaching UK on first week of Dec, dealer says likely delivery in early Jan but tracking site says delivery in Feb.
I read in one of the hyundai forums that EUKOR is their shipping company and they ship from Ulsan in S.Korea to Tilbury port in UK. Searching their website (https://www.eukor.com/schedule-search), I got below.
I’m assuming both of our cars are on Morning Cecile ship. you can track where the ship is at
What I’m wondering is why mine is Feb and yours is March. Maybe because my dealer is just outside London and yours far off from Tilbury?
Not sure why my post is awaiting moderation, didnt have anything offensive !
My dealer said something similar but Hyundai customer service said mine is built and Hyundai tracking website says it is at sea and has a VIN mapped to it. Dealer says he cant see it, and suggesting Feb. I also ordered in June, a RWD Ultimate with Tech Pack
thats great news!. Happy for you π
