      Hi all,

      I move into a new apartment in July this year and I believe podpoint EV chargers will be available but can i ask has anyone used EV chargers within an apartment development and are the kw costs reasonable because I can’t get any answers from anyone so far and it’s great charging from my driveway currently but unfortunately due to health reasons i need to downsize?

        It’s very much down to the the owner what they charger unfortunately and whether its a HA. LA or private run. HA & LA’s have started installing 22kW chargers where they have office’s on site with authorisation cards for the residents at discounted rates. If its privately run it may be included in the ground maintainence or could be per kWh but, pricing is anyones guess. Have you tried to google the site or look on zapmap?

          Hi footloose, my son had a flat in Glasgow and tried to get a charger fitted. The Factor put it to the owners of all the flats as all of them would have been required to agree to get a charger fitted for it to get approval. There were owners who didn’t drive and those who just didn’t want an EV so it failed to get the backing of the required 100%.

          There are grants available for both infrastructure and for the actual chargers but the availability of this would depend on your particular situation.

            Hi Brydo,

            the new apartment is actually at Braehead/Renfrew and the development looks great and I think about 4 chargers are getting put in for residents use,I just hope there’s a reasonable cost to charge 🤞as I’ve got used to charging in the small hours using off peak rates 👍

              Hi Footloose, so will it be a first come first serve type of set up? How many flats will be using them?

              Its unlikely you will get a very cheap tariff but hopefully it wont be 25p per kWh.

              Getting infrastructure in is the big money item so adding more charging points won’t be a problem in the future, if needed.

                Hi,

                the chargers I believe are for all apartment residents though unsure if each block gets chargers and how many are EV owners?Paying 25p per kw would be great as it’s better than the public network cost but i believe podpoint are fitting the chargers so unsure of how it works or is priced?

                  That sounds as if it could be problematic footloose. Could turn out to cause problems, hopefully not, but unfettered access to four chargers could result in you sitting watching until a charger becomes available.

                    @Footloose,

                    I live in a small building with 10ish flats and most of my street is made up of houses with driveway. I asked neighbours in next door app whether I can use their charger for off peak charging (+fee on top if that would help). 3 of them were kind enough to allow me use their charger at cost price. My recommendation is worth trying it unless you have other concerns about it.

                      Hi PS,

                      great idea and I’ve found my mates daughter is buying a house next to the apartments so I’ll give it a go paying the tarrif cost which is cheaper than public network.

                      Thanks to everyone for their feedback 👍
