@phil As @JMC correctly states, you only get a good condition bonus if you keep the car for the full 3 years and there’s no pro-rata payment. The advisor gave you duff info saying that it was due to getting another EV. If you surrender early you don’t get any GCB, regardless of reason. The only pro rate refund is on the AP. Maybe that’s what the £200 was that they initially referred to – the pro rata AP refund minus the deduction of the early termination fee? If so, they should pay that, so worth chasing.
I’m just going off what the advisor said when I was asking about changing the car. As we’ve always kept our cars for the 3 yr I’ve not known any different, so when she said we’d get around £200 back then we were OK with that.
Worth mentioning that the advisor today said we didn’t get the GCP due to getting another electric car when we stated that we wanted a petrol/diesel (which was not true) and not because we hadn’t kept the car for the full 3yr.
Anyway, it was just a mess that didn’t need to happen if they had just got their info right from the start.
Bit of a different story, but Motability have annoyed me today.
We had an electric Mini which was fine, apart from the range, but with my mother’s Parkinsons becoming worse, she needed room for a wheelchair and her doctors/hospital appointments have become much more frequent. I called Motability to see if we could hand the Mini and and get something larger and they agreed if we paid a cancellation fee (reduced to help with the AP on next vehicle) it took a while to find something with longer range, more space, and a smaller AP, but we settled on a Cupra Born, which has been great.
So, after a few weeks my mother asked when we’d be getting th GCP back as Motability had worked it out pro rata to around the £200 mark. Not a lot, bit better in my mother’s pocket than theirs. Anyway, after queueing for 45 mins on the phone, I went onto a webcam with an agent who told me my mother wouldn’t be getting any GCP due to swapping the car over with another electric vehicle. I stated taht we needed to swap mainly because of the size of the car, but also the range, but they say we wanted to swap because we didn’t want an electric car no more which wasn’t the case. I’d stated at the time that the size and AP coat would determine what we would choose next, not if it was electric or not!
Anyway, I got nowhere with them and they are only now sending out a letter to confirm that we won’t be getting the GCP. I find it strange that they’re using the cancellation as terms not to pay the GCP when I’d already paid a cancellation fee….this payment is about the condition of the car when returned, not about the next car I pick up!
Hopefully someone may find this useful if they’re wanting to swap their current vehicle to another one.
Hi Phil, I took the Formentor out last week, totally agree it looks much nicer, but once I sat in it, it’s very small. (I’m 6ft2) but it’s a gorgeous looking car. Plus it’s full of kit, recommend people to check it out.
The new Terramar is bigger than the Formentor. It’s their version of the new Tiguan with more aggressive styling.
Cupra are doing some really nice, well spec’d out cars at the moment. AP’s are a little high, but they’re usually better spec’d than their VAG siblings….better looking too (in my opinion).
Have you thought about testing the Cupra Terramar? All about opinions, bit I think it looks much nicer than the new Tiguan it’s based on and will probably be better equipped for less AP than an equivalent R-Line.
A bit of a pointless review when it’s all about the top of the range M135i which will never be on the scheme.
It looks so boring, even in its 45k flagship form.
The matte shadow isnt free, unless your dealer essentially discounted it for you. pick ours up on Saturday, cant wait 🙂
Not sure if things changed along with the AP this quarter, but I got my Alpine last quarter in Matte grey and didn’t pay any extra for it.
Factory workers at the Sunderland plant have been on stand downs a number of times in the last few month. Meaning they’re given time off with pay, but then have to work the hours back in overtime.
There’s always talk of Nissan closing for years now, but the government woukd keep throwing money at them to keep it open, but theres a real worry now that this could be the end.
You do have to worry about its workforce,as manufacturing in the North East in general is a declining sector with really poor pay these days.
I live in the North East, and it would be like when the pits closed. The effect it would have on the region as a whole would be catastrophic as its not just Nissan alone that has one of the biggest workforces in the area, its also the sister companies that rely on Nissan contracts that would also go under.
What has been a real shame over the decades has been the reliance upon Nissan in the region. There’s little else in or around the area that has provided jobs for generations of family’s. There’s been little investment and infrastructure in anything else from previous governments who have been happy to just give Nissan some hush money and kicked the can down the road. It’d a similar story with Hitachi Rail facing a very bleak winter due to once promised contracts going overseas.
The saying has always went “It’s grim up north” but it looks like it’s going to get a whole lot worse. Not really a surprise when most MP’s think Manchester is the furthest North you can go.
Well, at least we can rule out Jag making any kind of return to motability in the future.
Seriously, it’s not really worth giving a sh#t about is it?
There’s an article on the new Motability newsletter by email, detailing some new cars coming in 2025. It mentions the Kia EV3 and either the EV4 or EV5 (can’t remember which. It also mentions the ID 7 estate and ID 2 both coming onto the scheme. No mention of what the AP’s may be or dates they’ll be available.
I’m certainly no fan of it, but it feels like this is the way of the world these days.
When you look at how younger generations are making big money these days, through influencing on social media and all the crap that wouldn’t even be called a job a real job 10/15 yr ago. Its not hard to see why brands like Jag are making big u-turns. They are wanting to increase sales over keeping their loyal fanbase happy. They’ve probably got some social media savvy young upstarts on the board itself these days.
Car companies seem to be in crisis, especially some of the bigger brands. I’ve just seen photos of the new BMW 3 series and it doesn’t have any of the attributes you would associate to a BMW at all or something you’d aspire to own.
Emailed a local BMW dealer on Saturday for more info and delivery times and they’ve not stopped bombarding me with calls and emails!
I think the AP is too rich, if it had the Pro and tech pack then maybe it would get some serious consideration. Anyway, I’ve never known BMW to be so eager to get me in one of their cars, I usually find its me doing all the chasing when I’ve contacted them in the past.
Looking foward to picking mine up. Could have had one 2 weeks earlier, but wanted the Matt grey paint that takes me into the first week of Sept and the new 74 reg. Happy with that. I nay need to get on to the dealership and ask about these cashback discounts I’ve seen of around £250. Although I’m more than happy to pay the £995 AP, £250 is still better off in my pocket than theirs.
Did you manage to get order tracking working? I ordered mine on the 20th and said I dont mind which colour just get it here as soon as possible. Was hoping for 2 weeks but they have gone very quiet.
I’ve not bothered looking tbh.
The salesman should me the stock that was coming over and I could have had a met grey one within two weeks. I wanted the matt paint though and he showed me that both the matt and met black would be the end of Aug, first week in Sept, which is when the new reg comes out so I was happy to wait.
He sent me the paperwork via email of the confirmed order, but I’ve not really looked at it as he gave me a call a few days ago to see if I had any problems with ending my lease on my current Motability car. He said everything was on track for the first week in Sept.
I did forget to ask him about other dealerships offering cashback, so I’ll drop him an email about taht to see if they can match it. Of you don’t ask, you don’t get.

Nice @Phil 🙂 Not throwing money at Motability is always good!
Indeed!
It’s a bit of a rarity to get such a good looking, well spec’d car for under 1k these days!
I’ve just had a Scenic Alpine for the day and placed my order as soon as I returned the car. Its a cracking peice of kit. Having not been in a Renault for such a long time, I was surprised at how well it looks both inside and outside. Yes, there’s still one or two bits of hard plastic here and there, but the look and feel of the car itself is a step up from the Renaults I’ve driven in the past.
I parked it up at the shopping centre and it got plenty of attention….its a good looking, aggressive looking thing from the front!
Dealer has plenty of stock coming in and if it weren’t for wanting the matt paint work, I could have picked one up ad early as next weekend, but I have to wait 3 weeks instead, which I’m happy to do for such a stunning colour. I did have a glance at a Rafale which had just come into the dealership and that was a lovely looking beast, but they had no idea when it was coming on the scheme or what the AP would be.
Very happy with my choice and considering I was looking at a Q4 etron last quarter, I’ve got the thick end of 4k or so left in my pocket with the Scenic’s AP only being £995.
<p style=”text-align: left;”>
Dealer we went to today couldn’t understand why the Iconic has gone up so much. The Alpine is definitely on the scheme got one coming in about two weeks :). There are a few of the two tone Shadow grey at the import centre now. All Black model is £995 AP Two Tone £1595 AP Matt Shadow Grey £2045 AP
</p>
Thanks for that. I guess black it is then as I’m not paying double just for the paint job. The black looks stealthy anyway.
If you go on Motability website now there has been 3 cars added, 2 of them being the Scenic techno and Esprit Alpine that should have been on yesterday 👍
One of the dealerships were good enough to get back to me and let me know it was their mistake. Just waiting for them to report back on the matt paint option as it was that dealership that told me it wouldn’t be available due to the price.
Well you got a lot more sense than what I got from the two dealerships I spoke to. The first one also said taht the matt paint would be chargeable so wouldn’t be an option on Motability even of the Alpine was available.
Bit disappointing as they just didn’t seem interested in talking with me or finding any info out.
Looks like the Renault Scenic in Aline trim was a mistake at £995. Spoken to 2 dealerships and they say it’s not even on the scheme in that spec, let alone price.
How can you make a decision when there’s conflicting information between the manufacturer, the dealerships, and motability itself???
Good to know. I’ll be putting a call in to them then. Looks to be a cracking deal in what’s looks to be a very poor quarter.
I’ll be putting my order in for one of those at taht price. Wonder if the Matt paint option is free?
Seriously starting to think I’ll just buy a 2nd hand car for around 6-7k and pocket the monthly payment.
AP’s plus the monthly payment are just too high when most models aren’t even top spec! I’d expect a lot of this AP’s to go down over the course of this quarter, but that just makes it more maddening, and feels like Motability customers are getting conned into parting with big lumps of money whilst also fearing taht they could miss out on reduced AP’s on the same vehicle later on…..both Motability and the manufacturers have created a lot of uncertainty for a lot of disabled people.
It’s not on really.
Funny, when you usually ask a dealership about anything next quarter, they have no idea, bit when they’ve got sales targets at the end of a quarter to shift, they know exactly how much AP’s are going up!
Those Ateca prices will be coming back down soon enough as that shape has been around a good few year sp they’ll be less of a clamour for it by putting the prices up that much.
I wonder what this 2025 model is then? They just upgraded the batteries n stuff this year on the Q4, and from what I can see, there’s no news, media reports/drives, or pictures of a new model coming out within the next few month.
Bit strange.
