@Paul No I haven’t, thank you for the link. I did go through the BMW and Mercs forums when I owned the 3-Series and the GLA but didn’t think to go on the Kia one. Will have a look and see how other owners have faired.

@Dave147 I completely agree. Great to hear you got yours, you must be delighted. How does it fair on the roads after nearly a year of ownership? How is the real-world mpg gains like? And is your Sportage adapted in any way?

That’s correct. I knew I was going to be waiting a while, only I didn’t know it would be this long. Having no idea what the average waiting times were at the time of applying for the Sportage or what others were waiting on for their vehicle.

Has the price capping risen over the pass 1st or 2nd quarter on Motability cars? Along with everyone else, I’ve seen ridiculous advance payments this year being introduced, but I’ve also noticed the capping has changed to allow higher spec and/or engine models to appear. It used to be capped at the 35K limit but now I see new vehicles appearing on the scheme valued at more than 40K. Am I alone in saying this?

Hi @ChrisK, thank you for the feedback. I forgot (old age creeping in) the scooters came under class and I thought the one I quoted was a class 2, hence why I chose that particular model. I will take into consideration both classes and see what fits future SUV.

Thank you and everyone else on this thread for all the kind feedback and advice, I truly appreciate it.

I hope things turn around for the better for everyone concerned about their current or future car, I know how frustrating and anxious it can be during these challenging times we’re all experiencing right now. I sincerely hope things ease up soon and some sort of normality sets back in for us all. All my best for a healthy, successful and prosperous 2022.

Cheers @Markymate for the advice, will take that into account on deciding.

Thank you @ChrisK for sharing your experiences, that actually helps me out quite a lot. As the new quarterly list is now out, the new Allspace makes a welcomed edition back on Motability. Will have a chat with adviser and see what they say in regards with fitted hoist and scooter combo choice. I am thinking of going for the Pride Mobility Colt Sport or something along the lines of same sized scooter as this accommodates my own body size comfortably.  This scooter has a 68 kg total weight and 25 stone body weight limit, as well as front and rear suspension.

See how things get on in the coming days and weeks.

Good shout! Thank you, @sagittonius Btw, I should mention I haven’t had experience driving these mentioned SUVs but only gone by what the car reviewers and car journalists have said or written about.

Thank you @ChrisK for your advice. It’s looking likely I will be opting for an extension in the new year. I was advised to go down the Combo XL/Berlingo/Rifter/Caddy Maxi etc route but I am not too heavily keen on them for various reasons even though they will probably do an excellent job at fitting in both said scooter and myself, but they are incredibly boring to drive and to look at if I am honest. I’m looking for an fun, engaging drive as well as to accommodate my needs.

Another SUV I’m hoping to see if Skoda make a return with is their Kodiaq. Seat space isn’t essential so I can sacrifice the back seats to have a large boot scooter fit in, but I do feel a lot safer in a larger SUV than say a typical large car.

See how things develop in the coming months ahead. Happy New Year when it comes.

                            Hi Trev,

Excellent reviews of both the Tiguan and Karoq, two fine examples of how it should be done. I’ll need to pop down my local Mazda dealer and twist his arm for a test drive (and by that I mean I sit looking interested in the passenger seat while he has all the fun in the hot seat since my own car is adapted), and hopefully take it from there.

Has anyone got any experience with fitted powered chair/scooter hoists in the boot of their car? Can you recommend me adaptation specialist fitters? In terms of push/pull controls on all my cars, usually find Jeff Gosling are the best out there.

I think even with an new model update couldn’t tempt me back to spending another 3 years with Mercedes. The X1 is on my list as a possible replacement though.

                              Cheers Rafeal for the recommendations!

I’ll look into Tucson in person and check it out. Not too keen on the RAV4 though as it already looks quite dated within that drab interior.

The Outlander is a slight improvement over the RAV4 over cargo space – if a little narrower but much taller.

                                Cheers for the recommendations, JS!

                                  Hi Fred,

I’ve heard so much about the XC40. One of the safest SUVs on the road today from what I’ve read. Following on the XC family tradition in terms of safety driver aids. Momentum spec could do with a few more standard features though, not that its looking sparse.

                                    Hi wmcforum,

Apologies, I should have mentioned I’m after a petrol SUV in auto. That DS 7 is looking sweeter now since it was updated! Lol! Looking also to see how owners have experienced them as they know better how it feels behind the wheel.

                                    Cheers for the update!

                                      Hi Whisky,

Between the two available Skoda SUVs, I’m more pushed towards a Kodiaq and as it has tons of room and would suit the space for scooter, but the thing is I find their interiors far too conservative and a bit lacking in personality and character for my liking. Saying that not driven either one so would like owners to give me their own thoughts on how well they drive on the open roads. I do find VW’s Tiguan more as an alternative to a Karoq as it’s a bigger SUV, if slightly better interior – being from sharing the same VW parts bin. I can’t fault the CX-5 is a good shout and from what I’ve read it has strong punchy diesel as well as petrol engines. Space and interior is a big plus though. Mazda are ahead of the game when it comes to great handling cars/SUVs.

I have a GLA 200 d (2.1 diesel) AMG Line (Premium Plus pack option). It’s certainly not built for speed nor is it one of the best handling cars in its class but it gets me from A to B in relative comfort. Like the outgoing A-Class, it shares the same interior space and looks. The GLA has its ups and downs but it’s an alright car – I hesitate to call it an compact SUV as it’s a bit Focus-sized thing.

Would prefer a high-spec midsized SUV with a nice spacious interior. Thoughts on the above SUVs if you’ve experienced them? Anyone driven the new Seat Ateca?
