I thought I would make a thread on what caught you eye in the news good or bad. This follows on from last week when I posted about the MP Lee Anderson who suggested we could cook a meal from scratch for 30p and foodbanks weren’t needed if we could cook.
So today another Tory MP Racheal Maclean the safeguarding minister has said “That people struggling with the cost of living should take on more hours or move to a better-paid job”
How does a comment like this help the most vulnerable in society. Those that can’t work, the disabled pensioners or even those that can only take up low paid work for what ever reason. I find Mp’s and ministers are so out of touch with with the public, the comments they come out with are beyond nonsense.

Hydropower works well in Norway and Switzerland (and no doubt other places with high mountains and rainfall). Our climate and topography limits its use here to Scotland which already provided some. There are plenty of ideas to generate electricity from the movement of water but they are rarely cost effective or environmentally sound.
I believe wales has 2 of the top 5 Hydropower stations in the UK with Dinorwig at the number one spot 1728MW and Ffestiniog at number 3 360MW and the other 3 in Scotland. Other than Ben Cruachan I can’t think of the other 2 lol
August 18, 2022 at 1:11 pm #194606Wasn’t aware of the Welsh ones kezo. Is Cruachan the only one where they pump water back up at night? Thought it very clever when I visited it some years ago.

Know I live in wales since my 40s through work I often chuckle to myself how its to far t visit for the day know I live in Wales than when I lived in England. I find engineering like these very clever.
From what I understandFfestiniog although built in 1963 can still power the wholes of North Wales for several hours in the event of a total power outage.
The Dinorwig pwer station in Snowdonia, I believe is the the biggest in the UK and over 3 times the size of Ffestiniog.
Did you know @Wigwam new legend has it if your walking Snowdonia and listen carefully you can hear Julie Andrew singing t”sound of water” ?
August 18, 2022 at 1:41 pm #194617Would love to see the 2 big Welsh sites. Alas it’s not looking likely.

Llandudno is great to visit. Snowdonia has the largest hydropower which as you say would be interesting to see. Apart from all the other atractions it is also home to velocity 2 the worlds fastest zip line 100mph but we will say no more on that lol

Ofgem director quits as she believed the price cap change “would add several hundred pounds to everyone’s bill in order to support a number of suppliers in the coming months“. Just so I have this right, we’re all paying MORE to keep these businesses going?
What a fooking joke!

I been down inside the hydro electric power station at Llanberis many years ago now with my dad as he company had skips down there. you hardly know it’s there as well.
Amazing driving down and down and down. What amazes me is how it’s only mainly used at peak times as it can be turned off and on quick unlike other methods of electricity creation. Also energy created is used to pump the water back to the top as well. I uesd to live in bangor as a kid my mum was in charge of all the food at the University and we actually lived on site.

It’s funny how misinfomation becomes reality very quickly thesedays.
One upon a time heart attacks, pneumonia etc was the top causes of death now it seems unknown causes are top of the lists also and suicide alot are gonna die i think this winter from freezing to death or feeling they cannot cope and have failed. The cost of living crisis is bs it’s the cost of lockdown crisis.
August 19, 2022 at 10:58 am #194689i know a few folk died of covid, and my mate is still buggered 9 months down line after catching it. he didnt believe in the vax and caught it last year. its affected him very badly and his wife is still caring for him. he was also only in early 50’s and very fit and well. my sis in law caught it and it affected her lung transplant and got rejected and died a couple of months ago.

There will be many on this site getting an autumn jab, nobody should be put off getting the vaccine by what others say as it has been provan to be very safe and effective.
The only person who got all his work done by Friday was Robinson Crusoe.
Anything i post over three lines long please assume it is an article lol.August 19, 2022 at 11:26 pm #194741@Brydo I have had all 3 jabs, the last one Moderna whitch did give me a bad reaction/side effect, a few hours after having the jan I started violently shaking for 24hrs or so. Even to this day I get the odd shake/twitch. I will still be having the next jab even though it does not give me full protection because of an autiimmune disease, but how I look at it any protection is better than none.
I lost mu uncle because he caught covid whils’t in hospital for something else and my Wife lost her brother.
Touch wood I have never caught covid, but I do wear a p3 mask when the situation is bad when shopping.

The most well known case.Guess if she didn’t work for the bbc no one would of reported on it.
Pretty much like our mother had 1st jab 2 weeks later was in hospital with blood clots on her lungs and died soon after, she never had covid infact she had been shielding due to her age and we wasn’t even able to go and see her, neither were her gran kids for a whole year. all for what? Plus there’s many others out there not recorded as there death was from vaccine side effects. explain all these excess deaths? medics call figures terrifying. what else can it be?
Also many are suffering heart issues, many are fit sports persons. How many doses do you need is another and many who died from covid actually had underling conditions just they tested positive within 28 days of dieing and many of those actually caught covid in hospital, after they had been admitted or was in a care home. It’s sad some people could get any secondary infection and die if their underlying condition is a risk factor not just from covid.
I know 2 people who died of cancer as their treatments was cancelled and one of them was recorded, which i know is a fact from their family as from covid. I know of wuite a few others who didn’t even get diagnosed and by the time they did it was to late.
It’s up to you to decide if it’s worth it for you. but do not ignore the facts it’s still not licensed and neither is this new multi one. That will be somes 5th jab in just over 2 years it’s no vaccine imo it’s a therapy. You keep telling your self it’s safe and effective. can you really trust the pharma companies.
So yeah lets all dismiss the real facts that starting to now come out, big pharma only cares about making money. The fines are always smaller than the profits.
lookup the fines they had since 2000 say and what the fines was for and that don’t even include cases they settled on. why not now? they off the hook anyways the goverment is on the hook and pretty much like reports they don’t release, what’s to stop them on these issues as they are the one’s liable.
Long covid was also about well before cov19 just it was called something else and infact one of my conditions in my bones was brought on after having a bad stomach bug and i still have it 18 years later. It took me months and months to get over the fatigue also after being sick for almost 2 weeks.
Mp’s act like it was no issue at all and the guy who did the modeling that lockdown was based on cheated on his wife with his lover breaking the rules we was all under. So many instances where they got mask on they not got masks on but for pics they got masks on again. I hope i am wrong but slowly, slowy the truth seems to be coming out and one thing the cost of living crisis is really the cost of lockdown crisis.
August 20, 2022 at 10:07 am #194762Cardboard officers to be deployed by England police to deter speeders
A police force has become the first in England to use cardboard cut-outs of officers to deter speeders.
West Mercia Police will position two lifesize figures of police officers at speeding hotspots in Shropshire as part of a trial to ascertain how effective they are at slowing down drivers. They will wear high-vis clothing and be holding a handheld speed camera.
The unusual concept is already being used in Scotland, but this is believed to be the first time an English police force has implemented the idea.
The figures will be used alongside high-visibility patrols and real speed cameras
