I thought I would make a thread on what caught you eye in the news good or bad. This follows on from last week when I posted about the MP Lee Anderson who suggested we could cook a meal from scratch for 30p and foodbanks weren’t needed if we could cook.
So today another Tory MP Racheal Maclean the safeguarding minister has said “That people struggling with the cost of living should take on more hours or move to a better-paid job”
How does a comment like this help the most vulnerable in society. Those that can’t work, the disabled pensioners or even those that can only take up low paid work for what ever reason. I find Mp’s and ministers are so out of touch with with the public, the comments they come out with are beyond nonsense.

True andalso hope for me then ?
Votes needed doubled then from 50 earlier, I wouldn’t write off Wallace anf Gromet been pursuaded to run.
What ever they do they have got to play their last hand with wisdom. I’m sure Bradey and the rest are fully aware Sunak isn’t overly popular with us voters, especially if they plan on running for government in 2o24.

Worth remembering Sunak was also found guilty of a criminal offence whilst in office. So under this pretence Sunak should not run, and if I’m honest I would choose Boris the clown over Rishi rich boy any day of the week and a dam sight more would. However neither should run for office imo.
Oh where did you get that clipping from? Rishi’s wardrobe ??

Welcome along @Fastbike1000 to the mad house where anything goes, within reason of course.
Something to be said about the enemy’s within, mostly politicians. I bet the worlds having a good laugh at us right now 🙂

JojoeJohnson is an utter clown who surrounds himself with sycophants. The fact he was forced out by those who knew him best says all you need to know about him.

October 21, 2022 at 12:58 pm #198697Ben Wallace rules himself out of leadership race.
“I think you really have to want it as prime minister to do that job, you have to really think it’s the job for you.
For me, I feel that I can have the best value in keeping people safe at defence by being the defence secretary. It’s the job that I have been doing and it’s the goal I intend to stay doing, so I’m not going to be standing for prime minister this time.
He did not publicly back anyone for leader but said he is “leaning towards” Boris Johnson. He said:I have to recognise the issue of the mandate. This will be potentially our third prime minister since a general election 2019. That means we have to think about that legitimacy question that the public will be asking themselves, but also about who could win the next election. That’s obviously important for any political party at the time.
So at the moment, I would lean towards Boris Johnson.”
The European Research Group (ERG) of Tory MPs will convene a full plenary meeting on Monday morning to discuss who it should back in the leadership contest, the Telegraph reports.
The discussions will begin at 10.30am on Monday and will play a key part in whether Boris Johnson can win the necessary 100 MPs to face the members in the round of ballot.
October 21, 2022 at 1:02 pm #198698I’m probably barking up the wrong tree, but: Was this a ploy by the Tories all along. Sending bojo into hiding till things cooled down!!

October 21, 2022 at 7:12 pm #198731Johnson has still to appear before the Privileges Committee..
The former Prime Minister Boris Johnson could be suspended from Parliament and even forced to face a by-election if he is found to have lied to Parliament.
The Privileges Committee is examining whether Mr Johnson committed a contempt of Parliament by misleading MPs over the partygate scandal last year. MPs voted in April for an investigation to be opened into the former PM.October 22, 2022 at 12:05 am #198745

BrydoAny sensible party would quietly anoint Rishi Sunak and get on with re-establishing some degree of credibility but the Tories aren’t a sensible party. In fact calling them a party isn’t really accurate they are two parties under the one banner. No matter who they elect the new PM will have the unenviable job of riding two horses with the one bum ?
October 22, 2022 at 10:31 am #198763Some of them think anointing a Globalist dedicated to the WEF agenda isn’ t good for the country. Many others don’t think at all, except about themselves.
October 22, 2022 at 11:01 am #198768It’s the little England er attitude for most. A desire to be a great power again. The world has moved on and it has left little England behind as they won’t take their place in the coach

In reality Johnson is the only one with a mandate and is favoured by the grass routes, as they don’t see Sunak as a true Tory because of his tax plans What I did find interesting last night when watching various news channels, was a majority of support for Johnson by the electorate, even in his own constituency. Personally I was dismayed a fresh face, such as Wallace did not enter the the race. Although I do not balme him and who would blame him for not wanting to take over a sinking ship.
October 22, 2022 at 12:22 pm #198779Interestingly Sunak and Johnson haven’t yet declared, only Maudant. Sunak is guaranteed a place in the vote having already go his hundred. Johnson probably won’t declare until he gets his 100. He doesn’t like to lose…
October 22, 2022 at 12:26 pm #198781Currently 114, 71, 25. No doubt a lot of backroom wheeling and dealing going on in the next couple of days. The ERGs 40 members can block Johnson if he doesn’t win their support..?

Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak are being urged to strike a deal to avert a Conservative civil war, amid fears that the party is on course for a historic split.
Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak were set to hold talks about agreeing to a joint ticket© Provided by The Telegraph
The former prime minister and his ex-chancellor held talks on Saturday about agreeing to a joint ticket, as Mr Johnson’s allies claimed that he had joined Mr Sunak in reaching the threshold of 100 MP supporters needed to move to the next stage of the leadership contest. On Saturday, Mr Johnson flew into London from the Caribbean as Priti Patel, the former home secretary, joined prominent MPs on the Right of the party, including Jacob Rees-Mogg and Bill Cash, in backing him.
But Kemi Badenoch, the Trade Secretary, Lord Frost, the former Cabinet Office minister, and David Davis, the ex-Brexit secretary, all declared their support for Mr Sunak.
Senior figures in the party fear that a sizeable number of MPs on both sides would refuse to accept the leadership of a rival candidate.
One senior MP said: “Rishi and Boris both have to concede something and recognise their strengths. Rishi has no real mandate from the electorate and may not from MPs. Crossing the threshold is not the same as support.
“Boris needs to recognise that he is as divisive and must try and bring Penny and Rishi together.”
Nothing but a farce!
