Spoke to Skoda UK who said talk to other dealers, waste of time basically.

      Mine said nothing wrong.

Skoda Newcastle said talk to Skoda UK (who had already told me to talk to them)

Skoda Darlington said they could have a look but it’s £126 for non-warranty inspection, it’s only 3 weeks old!!

Think I’ll just have to accept I’ve wasted over £2000 on the Advanced pack and got a cr@p sound system. The HUD is nice, heated windscreen isn’t needed with car pre-heating and the heated rear seats will never be used.

Chap on Briskoda forum was more help, I sent him photos of the unit and where it is, he was surprised it produced any bass at all being enclosed in a polystyrene box and shoved under the floor in a small compartment, there’s very little air for it to move so very little bass.

Here’s the actual installation, under the boot floor!

And as guessed, made in China!

Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!

According to the Octavia Canton system wiring diagram, the wiring to the subwoofer should be as follows:

        1 L+

        2 L-

        3 R+

        4 R-

As you can hopefully see from the enlarged pics, where J525 is the canton control unit (AJ525) is shown along the bottom bar of each pic. The middle bar on the 3rd pic is J794 control unit head. Connector T4BH is the wiring plug to connect to the woofer box

          Sub:

          1 – L+ Green/Red, J525 terminal 38

          2 – L- Green/Brown, J525 terminal 39

          3 – R+ White/Red, J525 terminal 40

          4- R- White/Brown. J525 terminal 41

Speaker connections (bottom pic) left to right

          R15 Rear left bass speaker, J525 terminals 57 & 59

          R14 Rear left treble speaker, J525 terminals 61 & 63

          R17 Rear right bass speaker, J525 terminals 64 & 66

          R18 Rear right treble speaker, J525 terminals 68 & 70

          Similar for front speakers.

This problem continues week after week, why would you even consider a upgrade in options for a dealer ship speaker and Sub, I have a CLA and even that Sub is crap.

why didn’t you just not get a decent one fitted once you received your car theres alot better on the market for less money to what you have paid (I’m sure u said you didn’t care about the other options in the pack) so you basically paid over 2k for a Sub boxed in your boot. Did you even look at the SUB in the showroom of where it was before you handed you money out.

But saying that why is Skoda not just replace it it is a weird situation for me i would have went and got a decent SUB and Speakers fitted if car dealers have great speakers cheap crap is what they give you.

The short answer is that I couldn’t see or hear one, there was nothing within 100 miles that had the system fitted. My friend has an older Octavia vRS with it and Ive heard that many times and it certainly sounds a lot better than mine does.

Skoda have been in touch and are ringing me tomorrow so we’ll see what they say.

When you heard your friend’s SUB in a totally different car did you ask to see it and was it wrapped up in a box in the boot?

I hope you get this sorted but do find it weird why Skoda just wouldn’t fit another one as its under warranty. It just probably a shit SUB

Because it’s time and effort they don’t want to expend; Skoda have already got @Phaedra’s money so they’re doing nothing to resolve this. The whole point is that Skoda promised a product, got their money and have said “nope, not dealing with this” when that product hasn’t met expectations.

In addition to that, Skoda are likely hesitant to fix the problem because they know it’s an issue that may affect quite a few customers and don’t want to be flooded with complaints and repair costs. They’re covering their backsides and it’s appalling behaviour.

Fully agree with that! A quick google returns complaints across all models fitted with Canton sound.

So, Skoda just rang and unsurprisingly the dealer has refused any sort of refund as they say there is nothing wrong with it.  The sound quality is just the way they are, if it’s not as good as previous systems then it’s tough luck basically.

I did look at the wiring this morning, it does look to be correct but there’s not way to reverse the lead to try it, the connector is keyed to prevent it being fitted the wrong way.  I could remove and switch the connections in the plug but I have a feeling it’s not going to make much difference.

After looking at the wiring I’ve tried it again with the poly box removed and the boot floor folded back.  It does make a difference, the boot floor isn’t just a fabric/rubber backed mat, it has a hardwood (particle board) backing and a fairly thick carpeting so it’s fairly solid.

As far as I can see my choices are,
                          A. Live with it, it’s not a terrible system, it’s just not as good as it should be considering the Canton upgrade used to cost £500-£700 on it’s own before they started selling packs.

Or, B. Reject the car back to Motability!
Probably not the best option!, for a start I’d most likely be charged £250 to cancel it.  And realistically there’s very little chance at all of getting anything back from the dealer for the pack (£2035) and I’d then be left trying to find a suitable replacement.  Not an easy job being 6’5″ and unable to fit into most of the other similar cars available on the scheme.

I see no point in rejecting the car, as it wouldn’t put you in any better position.

I very much see a complaint to the motor ombudsman a viable option (not of satisfactory quality/fit for purpose).

The dealer can’t just say tuff if its not to the standard of previous models and ofer no action!

Prior to going to the Ombudsman as mentined above, it may be worth giving citizens advice a call for some advice and if they can help, making it crystal clear you lodged a complaint under CR2015 within the first 30days of taking delivery. Explain eveything that has gone on, along with the dealers attitude “its tuff if it not as good and we are refunding”

They may tell you go straight to the motor ombudsman or offer to help initially prior to taking it further.

Strange question does anyone know if you can use the 4 way block for the sub output for an amp ?

or is this coming from the car amp it self ?

                                Thanks

The 4 way block is a feed from the digital power amplifier located under the front seat. It provides a left & right channel feed to the subwoofer which is a passive unit (No self contained power or amp). If you wanted to fit a active subwoofer (power amp within the subwoofer) then you would need a separate fused 12v feed to it.

I think it’s best left as it is as any modification would affect the warranty of the car & is probably also against motability rules.

The sub is a passive 8 ohm dual voice coil (2x8ohm 2x100W) i.e the speaker (sub) has 4 connections rather than 2 you see on a single voice coil speaker and doesn’t necessarily dictate L+R channels.

The benift of subs having 2 voice coils is the vast number of ohme combinations possible from using one or more speakers and how they are wired. Using a resistor if needed to show loading on one set of the + – terminals of the amp, which could be done at the sub end, would make it possible to add another sub in a more appropiate area of the boot, whilst retaining the factory fitted sub and enable it to be put back to factory state in no time.

Sorry for the shitty drawing but it gives a few examples.

Has anyone had the boot floor up to see if the wiring and connector for the Subwoofer are already inplace.

I know some manufacturers install full wiring looms into vehicles and the vacant connectors for unused equipement are just left.

It’s not “£2000 just so I can have a better sound system in my car”

If it was then I’d never have paid that.  The system itself used to be a £600ish upgrade.

However, like most manufacturers, Skoda have changed over to “packs” where you can only get certain extras when they’re lumped together with others, basically a way to get more money out of you.

Looking at the Advanced pack as well as the “upgraded” sound system you get the heads up display (very useful and better than the standard small instrument display, heated Climacoat windscreen, again very useful but as it turns out not really needed on a BEV with car pre-heating available.  Heated rear seats, handy if you’re carrying passengers in the colder months, Crystal grille, can’t really see the point of it.

Would I pay for that pack again? no, I’d certainly pay for the heads up display was available on its own.  I’d also add my own subwoofer but as it’s a permanent connection I’m fairly sure motability wouldn’t be happy.

At the end of the day the car as it is, with the AP being reduced twice cost £3384, the original price when I ordered it  was £3784.  So even with the upgrade to an 85x it was still £400 cheaper than I originally ordered it at.
