Wigwam that doesn’t surprise me, you have to assume they both had similar issues to start with lol. They could maybe start a very small therapy group, of women who have had the dubious pleasure of your company over the years.
Just to annoy you they could hold the meetings in a teepee lol.

BrydoOver the next few days I will be on the roof. Pigeons under my solar panels need to go. I’ve bought mesh to stop them getting in and under.
If I fall off the roof you won’t hear from me again, I have a harness so I should be ok but I just wanted to create a bit of tension lol.

Video of this please. Want to see the harness and other PPE for the job as Sky rats are known to cause breathing issues and unsanitary conditions.

GeorgieThere’s good eating on wood pigeons. Nice in a stew; or gently fry the breasts and top with fried mushrooms in garlic; or finely slice and fry with onions, garlic and ginger and stuffed in a pitta with a bit of side salad.
I know mine are corn-fed because I watch the little beggers hoovering up all the seed I put out for the wild birds.

ThargMust try the pigeon recipe, Georgie. Sounds good and my butcher has been known to have them for sale. Wood pigeons are known in Tharg house as “pies” because we thought they might be good in one and they have slightly less brain-power than a short-crust steak and kidney. One pair, despite discouragement, built nest on top of garden fence, exactly where the cat strolls along. At least the robin chose the shed in a difficult-to-get-at shelf.
May 1, 2020 at 10:35 am #112610Amuses me watching pigeons taking off. Much clattering of wings and feathers flying before they lurch into the air. I wonder if they are surprised each time they gain flying speed that they’ve actually managed it.

brydoDon’t think wood pigeons would get under the panels, I just have the rodent type.
Joss I will take some photos of the harness and mesh, when its done, I won’t be in the photos as I’m too shy lol.
May 1, 2020 at 11:54 am #112626Ya got to be in the harness Brydo, don’t be a spoil sport muhahahahaha
Actually, It would be nice to be able to put a face to the posts. What do folk think?

Donkey OatieHeard of someone who was working on his roof so he made a safety rope and threw it over the top of the roof and tied it to the towbar of his car, he was happily working away on the roof till his missus jumped in the car and went shopping! not sure if it was true or not
Another which is true was a bloke pruning his garden tree and he put his pruners in his pocket he fell out the tree and pruned something he hadn’t planned.

ThargYesterday I… prepared tomatoes for planting. Digging over beds, discovered two large toads who had slept the winter away underground. Rescued same, and set free in safe corner of garden. Later, found very confused blue tit sitting on kitchen sink. Luckily it was SO confused it allowed itself to be picked up and set free etc. Closed kitchen windows. Vowed to have nothing more to do with local wildlife today. Made jerk chicken (with home-made mango ‘n’ lime salsa).

brydoDo you have a recipe for the jerk chicken Tharg or is it out of a jar, I have never tried it but would like to.
May 3, 2020 at 12:10 pm #11278410,817 steps Brydo! I bet I haven’t managed more than 50 steps around the house and patio in the last 24 hours. You should be proud of yourself.
My daughter in law ran 23.4 kilometres yesterday, most of it along almost unused country lanes, bridle ways and through large woods in the beautiful countryside that surrounds us. That isn’t a typo, the evidence was clearly displayed on her running watch, it was 23.4k with an accompanying GPS route map. She has taken it easy today by only running 7k this morning, lol. Not bad for a hard working but very fit mother of four.
I must admit to occasional envy of people who are able to run or walk for fun and fitness. Keep it up those of you who can. Cheers.

ThargBrydo – yup. Used to use the Levi Roots jerk paste which is no longer available. Has to be a paste, liquid sauce don’t work. Now have to make me own which is dead easy as long as you have a liquidiser. Just put all the stuff in the whizzer and zapp it. You’ll need:
4 scallion onions (fat spring onions) roughly chopped
4 cloves garlic peeled and chopped
tbsp thyme
1 red chilli (more if you like it well hot) finely chopped
1″ bit of fresh ginger
2 tbsp white wine vinegar
2 tbsp molasses or treacle
one half tsp allspice
one tsp cardomon seeds (taken out of husks if you can be bothered, then whizzed to powder in the liquidizer with allspice.)
one half tsp each of: cinnamon and nutmeg and salt.
juice of a lime
As above whizz it all up until a smooth paste then apply to chicken thighs ( breast goes dry) and marinate overnight. Before applying marinade, slash the skin of chicken a bit to let stuff get well in.
Oven at 200ish (normal setting, not fan) and given ’em about 50 mins, turning once or twice and making sure they’re done. Try not to let dry out. Final touch – zap them with blowtorch to crisp the skin.
Serve with Tilda rice ‘n’ peas (Caribbean brand) and fried plantains if you can get ’em. Enjoy!

brydoPops that’s mighty impressive, my son ran 10k the other night which is a fantastic achievement for him as I used to help run a boys football team and he was THE WORST TRAINER in the team bar none, we called him sicknote as he was always injured.
So I’m extremely proud of him as I am built more for pleasure than exercise.
He went up onto the roof today and power washed the pigeons poo and nests away, its too hot to fit the mesh today so that can get done next weekend.
I hope you are getting the same weather were you are pops I could do with an outside pool here, its melting.
Tharg thanks for the recipe I will give it a try the next time I get to the shops.

brydoTharg Just in case you are ever in the west of Scotland looking for spring onion, we call them “syboes” pronounced “sybees”.

ThargBrydo -sorry, mate. Left some things unclear. Have written many things in my life; recipes wasn’t one of’em! So, quantities in recipe will be OK for 8 to 10 thighs. If you don’t use it all, no probs, keeps in fridge for 2/3 weeks. Put thighs, with plenty of space around each one, in big pyrex or lined steel oven tray. When turning over during cooking, dab a little bit more paste on bare bits. Also, when turning, drain off the fatty liquid otherwise they’ll just fry. I drain it into one of those fat separator jugs, when it clears, pour the juice (no fat) and put into small saucepan set to simmer. It thicken a bit and makes a great dressing for the rice.
Will try to remember the Gallic for onions if I get to West Coast; unlikely, like Austrian wine I don’t travel well. That said, some years back, did have a mad day-trip from Croydon to Benbecula. Crazy journey; fantastic place – very dramatic especially coming eye-to-eye with golden eagle which was in the hover by the edge of cliff I stood on!

brydoPainted the garage door and the wood part of the porch.
Tomorrow is a big day, onto the roof to fix the metal mesh around the solar panels, danger is my middle name, my first being really and last being scared.
Don’t use my middle name often lol.
May 11, 2020 at 1:26 pm #113137Got half of the mesh installed, not brain surgery but time consuming with cuts, fixings etc.
Putting together an outside storage box to keep cushions in but its too hot outside so in doors having a drink and charging my drill.
