Tiquan R-Line test drive

Just had a couple of hour test drive in the new face lift Tiquan R-Line.  1.5TSi 7 speed DSG engine combination.

Nice car to drive once you get over the annoying throttle lag when pulling off. Up and running the engine gives you plenty of pull and the DSG is smooth and handles aggressive right peddle input.  I was surprised by how comfortable the ride was on 20″ tyres.  It felt a good sturdy platform even when giving it some beans on a winding country road, not too much body roll. Motorway driving was taken in its stride, quiet and smooth and it felt like a long journey wouldn’t leave you with aches and pains.

The interior was good and the dash was well set out. What was strange was buttons on the media screen but none for the climate control, using your finger to move the sliders which control the temperature, which I found almost impossible to use whilst driving. You can get the climate control up on the media screen, but do this before you start driving.  Seats were very comfortable and manual adjustment in lumber and all other movements.  Back seats were okay and leg room was good.

Boot is the only real let down, despite being a good size, 104cm wide between the wheel arches, and 170cm from the back of the front seats, there is a 20cm drop from the boot lip, and almost the same with the rear seats folded down.  If you want a level floor you’ll have to pay extra for it, £215, but you do get a spare wheel.  But my biggest struggle was that the R-Line does not come with an electric tailgate, my wife had to close it as I didn’t have the upper strength to pull it down from its full height.  The Elegance comes with electric tailgate and rear camera.

It won’t be for me, but I know a lot of you will be looking to choose one. My advice would to pick the Elegance as it has much more useful equipment than the extra plastic racy bits of the R-Line

After much deliberation, i couldn’t justify the AP and extras cost, so it will be Ateca Experience Lux for us. A huge £4,500 saving for a car with identical engine and part of the same group. And as I had the 1.5TSI Edition as a private car and was happy with it, it’s actually a no brainer….

Question is place the order before or after Jan list comes out? ?

If you are happy with the current AP for the Ateca then order asap.

Who knows what will happen come January, or whether your chosen car will still be on the Motability’s list?  Then add in Brexit, the Pandemic, rising costs etc.

Of course, the AP could drop – but when ordering see if the dealer will re-order should that case arise.

                    Agree with BigDave.

if there is a no deal exit  and we find ourselves in WTO, expect 10% tariffs. APs will surely have to go up. Altecas are built by Skoda alongside the Karoq, so top notch build quality, imho. I ordered the 1.5 dsg SEL Allspace Vs Touran/Tarraco/Kodiaq as worked out cheaper for the equipment I wanted. AP went up this quarter.

Collecting Tiguan Rline on Thursday. 150 tdi, 4 motion dsg, in white!

No extra’s though, I didn’t want to wait 10 weeks.

thanks for the good advice everyone! I should have said, it’s the Karoq 1.5tsi i had and i was very pleased with it. APs will only go one way so I’ll place the order for the Ateca before end of the month… Excited!!!

@Chris-83 Congrats! I think the dealer is being very optimistic at 10 weeks for a new order tbh.

In my mind you’d be looking more at late March, but that’s just my opinion. With lockdown and current orders being so delayed…

Yes Tim I’d agree with you, reps do like yo give a shorter time to ‘rope you in’ I guess. Im in Wales, so the Tiguan was in the UK port, I ordered 1 day before Welsh lockdown, so basically was in lockdown 17 days and having 3 days after lockdown ended. So its worked out well for me.

I’ll pop some photos up on thursday/Friday

Outrigger ,I saw it on  a vw in stock list ,there was an elegance and r line. I was surprised to see it,just spent 10 mins trying to find it again but to no luck, soon as I find it again i’ll post it. It was a site laid out like listers but not listers.

                                        .

                                        Morning Chris,

Hope all is well, I’ve just spoken to accounts and admin they have mentioned the Tiguan R Line’s are all coming through with Space saver spare wheel. This is something that’s coming through on all Tiguan’s at the moment.

The cost of this is £215, so in total it’s £3,864.00. Can you let me know if that’s okay as it’s all ready for tomorrow.

Do I have to say yes? Or is there a way around this? The spare wheel is not something I really need or want.
