Yes i think they can the law is an ass when it comes to this i used to have in the 90s front windows limo as well when it was legal and to be honest that was dangerous more at night during the day it was fine, but the light smoke on fronts is more for protecting you against skin cancer and is no problem only the law is.
July 11, 2021 at 10:14 am #158051Yes they can but it also depends on what police force area you are in i had my cars limo black fronts in the 90s and i would say it was not good at night and when there was rain in the dark but in daylight they were fine.To be honest a lot of window tinting companies will not do the front windows or will warn you not to go too dark, mine were done in smoke which is great and offers uvb protection. You under the law can have all the rear windows up to limo black if you want the grey area is the front you can get done at your own risk and windscreen is a no no except for a shade band is allowed.
July 11, 2021 at 10:40 am #158052A lot of window tinting companies will not do the front windows because they could be prosecuted for aiding and abetting.
July 11, 2021 at 11:43 am #158060You do talk a lot of shi??? Wig i know all this but and many police have told me that light front window tints are good especially when the sun is in your eyes and you could be Waring the darkest sunglasses and they do not protect you from uva radiation there are cases of drivers getting skin cancer on the drivers side on that side of there body that drive a lot, just because the rules tell you it is against the law does not mean it is right and for me i will always have my front windows lightly tinted and yes i inform motability and they said yes to all my cars and they have been taken back at the end of the lease with no problems so there.
July 11, 2021 at 12:01 pm #158061Daveblue, we all take our own decisions in life, and long may we do so. If we don’t agree with the law, we may breach it but it doesn’t stop it being the law. That some tinters will not do front windows is a fact and presumably because they want to be ethical businesses, not because they want to turn away work.
I started with the warning that insurers will always look for a way to reject a claim and I wouldn’t want to give them the opportunity.
July 11, 2021 at 12:37 pm #158063most current windshields reduce light by at least 20% so any tinting added will almost certainly break law as it has to have 75% light pass.
As said above if you have an accident and its found you were driving an ‘illegal’ vehicle then they wont pay out(if at all possible). Also cops, certainly up here test most cars the stop if they think its tinted

but beauty is in the eye of the beholder ??
I did have 2 cars in me early 20’s that had the front 2 windows tinted ( both like that when I bought them )
definetly wouldn’t do it now or drive a car with them , would be asking for trouble I think
My current car came with factory tints but honestly they were only very slight to the point you’d think they weren’t
I think it cost me around £150 ish ( 2 years ago ) it was meant to be £175 ish but you don’t pay Vat on them being a disabled vehicle or something along those lines , I’m not sure I just turned up to collect the car and settle the bill and the owner told the figure and I paid
I did enquire about a very light tint being applied to the front windows and the legality of it
the owner said the front 2 already come with the maximum legal tint allowed and that his company never tint the front
I took his word for it and was happy with that ??
like any business there are some better than others , better quality you work, professional standards and reputations and some that will happily take the money customers offer
The company I used probably have the best reputation in Glasgow if not Scotland and tint all the high end super cars with ecmxtea tints before customers collect them
they also do lots of normal cars too ? ( like mines ) lol
