ajnWe have down sized our living quarters to a smaller room, yet more space due to lack of contents ie dining area/living room combined..
Were moving into a different room with bills/heating in mind for the winter..
Ive got a space on the wall for a slightly larger and more upto date TV from the much discussed aged Samsung that I think Mike has too.
Lets just say 3 years for a £500ish LG 50/55” non oled….
will this type Tv last 3yrs, by then the oled should be down I price too, can’t see any lasting as long as my old Samsung just a shame it’s so dated, and not upto my needs and wants anymore.

OH its the entry level Crystal ?
How do I put it, if you watch a lot of lower resolution content then its mmmmmmm crap but if you watch higher resolution 4k content its actually prety good at that “price point”
Here a vido of Mikes favourite guy shoing low reslolution SD and HD and higher resolution 4k
Your not going to get much at that price point mate but, if thats price fits your needs and budget don’t discount Hisense or TCL as you get more bang for your buck 🙂

ajnMorning kezo, think it’s the next one up, £509 Jon Lewis, however it’s still under Crystal ….. so guess it’s the same quality..
just loved how thin it looks…
The weird thing is for me take cars for instance when I look at my steering wheel and see Volvo it gives me a sense of satisfaction, has done for decades, however the feel and overall build strength & comfort for me seems to have disappeared, but still has the Volvoisam about it in its name lol..
Not sure if Mike the same I grew up preferring the brand names I’m used to seeing, Sony, Samsung, Panasonic, Sharp, so on..
Bit of a dino here lol

We all love branded names including me but, the manufacturing world isn’t what is use to be. Take Volvo who are now owned by Chinese firm Geely. European manufacturers having their vehicles made in China and shipped back to Europe to sell.
The glorious world of TV’s isn’t what it use to be. Back in the day you could buy a Panasonic, Sony or Baird TV for example and it was made by then. Today is totally different, manufacturers outsource their budget to midrange to third party manufacturers in Turkey, China or Taiwan, even worse, what we think are branded company’s often licence the brand name to to third party manufacturers. Take the Sony brand for one example a renowned electronics manufacturer, where you or I would be proud to have such a brand in our living room only to find its not made by Sony at all.
Look at the story of LG (Lucky Goldstar) and where they have come from if you haven’t already read it. Now they make the large majority of OLED panels for renown brands such as for the Likes of Sony, Panasonic and Bang & Olufsen etc.
Lets have a quick look at Samsung. It wasn’t many moons ago Samsung gained the name “Samsung Panel lottery” It was potluck which panel you got, it wasn’t the only manufacturer but, probably the worse. In 2008 Samsung Electronics announced that it would be outsourcing the production of some LCD display modules to TCL CSOT. What this meant is anything below Samsungs top tier panels were made by TCL. I bet the TV you and Mike are watching is made by TCL.
Fast forward to 2020 delayed untill late 2021 –Samsung Display, an arm of South Korea-based Samsung Electronics which makes display panel for various devices, has sold off its LCD production line located in Suzhou, China to TCL Technology. The move is in line with the company’s plan to stop the production of LCD panels by the end of this year. The South Korean company is now shifting its focus towards the production of LED panels and the next-generation QD panels.
So what does that mean to you or I, well simple really, unless you or I buy a Samsung QD-OLED, the TV panel is made by TCL and TV made in China. The Big question you need to ask one self is, do you buy a cheap Samsung branded TV made by TCL or do you buy a TCL TV that is overall better and has better features and TCL has some big brand partnerships. You tell me???
Going back to LG and its origins, even Samsung and where they have come from you may find this interesting. Its a US story but, just as much applies to Europe and indeed us.

ajnVery interesting reading kez0, very informative, in answer to the Which tv had the laural&hardy playing, could well have been the TCL and Curry’s hamstringing it to push what they want to sell.
October 18, 2023 at 8:37 am #238945Kezo Telly Dan from Leeds hasn’t put an unboxing video on you tube for weeks such a shame I liked his videos it their anyone else on YouTube who unboxed them and set settings etc ?

I don’t know of anyone else Mike sorry.

I doubt thats the case! Currys strategically place TV’s so a customer is drawn to more expensive one’s. However showingng something like Laural & Hardy as long as it isn’t remastered shows the quality of the picture when watching everday terrestrial TV. Showing native 4k content rather than how a TV upscales SD & HD gives false imressions.
I can only guide what TV is suitable but, paying extra for a Samsung badge over TCL, I see no logic but, the decision has to be yours. Planning on spending your upper budget On a budget LCD, the Hisense OLED wins hand down.

October 31, 2023 at 5:25 pm #241049Should you buy an LCD, Quantum-Dot or OLED TV?
LCD TVs, which require a backlight usually made up of white LEDs to show a picture on the LCD panel, are available in a wide variety of screen sizes and, thanks in part to the technology’s low cost of production, at affordable prices.
QLED (Quantum-dot Light-Emitting Diode), is known by different names among’st manufacturers. A QLED TV is an LCD TV but with a quantum dot coating over the backlight. However, the quantum dots (tiny semiconductor particles) in current QLEDs do not emit their own light. So QLED TVs, like conventional LCDs, rely on a backlight. The advantages of a QLED TV over a traditional LCD , is you tend to get brilliantly vibrant colours, plus bright, sharp and crisply detailed images.
OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) is a panel technology that uses self-emissive particles – so there’s no need for a backlight. This allows OLED TVs to be unbelievably slim, while also offering convincing pitch-dark blacks, strong contrast, excellent picture quality above that of an LCD panel and superb viewing angles. LG, Sony, Panasonic and Philips are the big brands with OLED TVs in their line-ups and, broadly speaking, they’re far better than LCD type panels. New style OLEDS such as the LG EVO and Samsung QD panels are extremely bright.November 15, 2023 at 1:41 pm #243757

ajnPhaedra this tv is the one that sparked my interest whilst staying in a holiday cottage (think it was slightly smaller than 55”)..
In my opinion the picture was excellent, the response of instruction was immediate, a pleasure and easy to use, Mrs aj says just get this set.
I have a space to fill on the wall, but no rush at the moment.
Maybe you could open & set up towards Christmas settle down to watch some festive tv with a drink of your choice ?
November 16, 2023 at 4:05 pm #244070November 16, 2023 at 4:15 pm #244077@ajn Your sounding like my MIL, when she came back of holiday, where she said the TV on holiday, (which was also an LG) looked abit shaper than the one she had at home! I replied that the one on holiday was UHD, whils’t heres was HD and would upscale non 4k content a little better and cheap TV’s tend to look better with smaller screens due to the pixel spacing on larger sets.
Anyway I have been roped in somehow to buy a new one for christmas!
The UP751c was released in April 2021.
