March 9, 2023 at 8:17 pm #214592Note-
Nissan is working to knock a chunky 30 per cent off electrified powertrain manufacturing costs by 2026. A cut based on 2019 figures, the Japanese car maker hopes it’ll create a future powertrain standard that can be replicated more cheaply and get the price of electrified cars more on par with petrol ones.
By using a modular system it calls ‘X-in-1’, the manufacture of its electric vehicle (EV) and e-Power core components can be streamlined to cut costs.Such an approach can be scaled up or down, depending on the vehicle model and power requirements of the design. Yet, by keeping everything else pretty much the same, the powertrain can be configured on the same production line, thus reducing the production overheads.
Already Nissan has a 3-in-1 powertrain prototype – modularising the motor, inverter and reducer – for EVs. The planned 5-in-1 prototype integrates a generator and increaser for use in hybrid models, but the approach is clear to see; take the core components then bolt on the extras in a pre-conceived clever wayMarch 17, 2023 at 7:29 pm #215507This week Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Featuring left to right –
Wednesday.L H Column 53+ mpg on longer journey some dual carriageway + local mileage!
Wednesday 2nd Column 48+ mpg on short local journey
Thursday. 3rd Column 65+ mpg Motorway 98 miles and 14 miles on a + b roads
Thursday 4th Column 45+ mpg less than 12 miles , mixed roads, loads of stop go traffic
Friday 5th Column 44 + mpg short journey only!
Friday. 6th Column 38+ mpg . 1 journey only to exercise class, picking-up Dougie , stop – start traffic less than three miles.
I have stopped experimenting with D+ B drive , and Eco, standard v sport I am now driving in D drive standard with e pedal i n operation most of the time, and sport and e pedal off ,using ev mode at traffic lights – I still love seeing the shocked look in my rear view mirrors, as I silently glide away whilst they are still contemplating releasing the clutch – ok ok they soon catch up, but I have slowed down by then, and put the big grin away – 76 is the new 26 in this car!
March 17, 2023 at 9:26 pm #215518Still excellent figures Mike 🙂
March 18, 2023 at 12:10 am #215527???
March 18, 2023 at 9:56 am #215547Great mpg figures Mike but a bit big for me as I’m on my own 80% of time in car I wonder if the juke hybrid mpg figures would be close to yours ?
March 18, 2023 at 10:20 am #215549The qq and juke are about the same size externally if you’re worried about that.
Not sure about mpg as they’re different systems entirely.
March 18, 2023 at 10:42 am #215552Oh I thought the body size of the Qashqai was longer and wider seeing one on the road yesterday
March 18, 2023 at 10:56 am #215554Oh I thought the body size of the Qashqai was longer and wider seeing one on the road yesterday
Marginally:
The Qashqai is longer than the Juke by about 215 mm (8.46 in.)
The Qashqai is wider than the Juke by about 35 mm (1.38 in.) with mirrors folded
The Qashqai is taller than the Juke by about 52 mm (2.05 in.) with shark fin antenna
The Qashqai has a larger wheelbase than the Juke by about 29 mm (1.14 in.)
"Come on BYD Seal!"March 18, 2023 at 10:57 am #215555It is. Look at car dimensions website for comparison. March 18, 2023 at 11:07 am #215557the firewall seems to have a life of its own. I do apologise, I’ll have a look into it. I do know we are running out of space so that can make things temperamental.
March 18, 2023 at 11:10 am #215559Thanks wmc. I was doing the comparison of Qashqai and Juke for Mike.
March 18, 2023 at 11:12 am #215560Great mpg figures Mike but a bit big for me as I’m on my own 80% of time in car I wonder if the juke hybrid mpg figures would be close to yours ?
Hi Mike
Apparently it does 56 mpg overall, and is quite quiet, but it is not to be confused with the ePower and probably uses the engine more than the ePower,( which only uses the engine as a means of Charging the battery ) and the Juke has an auto gearbox, whereas there are no gear changes In the epower .
Nevertheless it has some very good reviews and comparisons with other hybrids and there is little difference in size between Juke and Qashqai.
The ePower has its critics but i am very satisfied.
Regards
March 18, 2023 at 11:23 am #215561There’s a very big difference in interior space…
March 18, 2023 at 12:17 pm #215567About the same size in my head and in real life are a bit different aha. Maybe I’m just used to seeing x-trails everywhere and everything else looks “about same” to me ha.
Just the boot and space in the back of the juke seem laughable compared even though the small difference in exterior size (8 inchs)

When dealing with 3 dimensions, a small increase in all 3 can add up to a considerable increase in volume.
April 4, 2023 at 11:19 am #217743On arrival , from Oxfordshire to Southport Friday.

Blue shows journey from North Oxfordshire to Southport Middle white shows journey from home in Berkshire to Granddaughter’s home in North Oxfordshire, others are short shopping trips? On arrival Southport to North Oxfordshire Saturday evening.
The non stop journey north from North Oxfordshire to Southport was mainly on cruise, set at 72mph, Eco drive, with epedal in use . 64.9 mpg.
The non stop return journey from Southport to North Oxfordshire was not on cruise, using standard and sport mode ,speed variable up to 85 mph on overtaking Etc., and epedal in use most of the time. 56.7 mpg
The engine was operational most of the time, at speeds over 35 mph, although unobtrusive , and A/C was on at 18c.
April 4, 2023 at 11:25 am #217745Very impressive Mike. How are short local journeys looking?
April 4, 2023 at 11:27 am #217746very impressive indeed Mike.
Can I about the infotainment screen (the main one in the middle) is it only accessible via touch or do are there buttons we can use to toggle through the menu? For example, if we had google maps open, would I need to physically touch the screen or is there a scroller, like in my current car, that can be used to interact with the software?
April 4, 2023 at 11:42 am #217754Very impressive Mike. How are short local journeys looking?
Most local journeys are on electric only between 20-30 mph and less than a mile.
Some are in traffic up to 2-3 miles engine on and off- these returned 19-22 in diesel Tiguan and 30-48 in QQ.
The ‘ big thing’ For me is not the mpg, but having an ev drive experience, because 100% of the time it is an ev ( albeit with a different charging method) and no range anxiety- just drive it as you would an I C E and relax.,
April 4, 2023 at 12:21 pm #217765Excellent as usual Mike 🙂
