After visiting a friend in Glasgow Royal Infirmary me and my wife happened to pass an Arnold Clark Hyundai dealership and went in for a look at the Ioniq 6. The salesman “James Macmillan” had a chat with us and told me that they were discounting the car by £250 and that a V2L charger comes free with the car, that was good enough for me lol.
My wife really likes the car but i thought it would be too low for her but she had a go getting in and out and was happy enough that she ordered one in black with grey interior.
Its getting delivered next week, gulp, and ive only a granny charger, at this point, so that could be interesting. Hopefully Motability can sort me out quickly with an EV charger.
Its an absolute bargain but of course its got to be right for you, but if your looking for an EV that has virtually everything then this could be the answer. The cars design is a bit Marmite but both me and the wife really like it.
The dealership address is:- 345 Alexander Parade, Glasgow G31 3AD
James direct line number is 0141 422 2780
The only person who got all his work done by Friday was Robinson Crusoe.
Anything i post over three lines long please assume it is an article lol. - CreatorTopic

Test
September 16, 2025 at 7:54 am #312677Found another software glitch, the passenger heated seats dont show on the screen. Just drivers. I had to voice command to turn on seat, then it appeared. On a restart, it had gone again.
September 16, 2025 at 7:57 am #312678Found it impossible to get a radio station, after listening to bbc sounds, the media button just took me back to android auto. Oddly had waze and on board nav, running on split screen. Very annoying quirks on this software and its UX. BMW by comparison was a breeze.
September 16, 2025 at 9:32 am #312682As in, the app, or the actual infotainment?
Haven’t had any issue with the infotainment so far.

@LordMuc it’s been mentioned on here already and Hyundai are aware, on a positive note it means you’ve got the latest software 😂 just need to keep using voice commands until it gets sorted 🤷♂️🤞September 16, 2025 at 9:52 am #312686When driving, the media button kept going to android auto, rather than the media screen, where I can select dab, could not think of a way to get to the screen, I guess I should have used voice command, don’t like fiddling with it on a motorway, certainly not as slick as the bmw. I think I will get used to the voice commands, as that works well, if I can remember them!
September 16, 2025 at 11:02 am #312687I guess what i should have done, from listening to bbc sounds, go to the apps tray, on android auto, select hyundai to take me back to the main menu. And from there, select radio-dab. Bit of a nightmare when driving, as you are stretching across the screen, miss that controller on the bm.
September 16, 2025 at 11:05 am #312688Also the headlights seemed not very bright, again comparing to the BM, the matrix thing seemed to work well, I felt not as “white, bright” as used to…
September 16, 2025 at 11:10 am #312689That one i can confirm, doesn’t feel as bright as the VAG Matrix lights either. Beam itself doesn’t throw as far either – nor as “high” (imagine a rectangle being projected 300m in front of the car – the rectangle is smaller in the Hi6).
I haven’t noticed any OS glitches either yet, but then again, i mostly use AA anyway. Starting to get used to the size too.

Can’t progress on app, as charger is not listed, so it just hangs. However, good charging at Sainsbury’s, very fast to 80% and charged 60p, per KW. I believe that using Electoverse its 55p. No fussing, just plugged in, a bit of shopping and done. Not busy either. Hooray, the card arrived today, so will try that. Could have used the app, but it was pouring with rain, and of course, no overhead cover around chargers!

I also find it to be quite glitchy compared to the previous BMW system. In my case, when listening to the radio it will sometimes turn itself over to the music source and I have to press the mode button to get back to radio. It can do this over and over again 😡.
Whilst the system in our old BMWs was near perfect, it’s worth noting that the latest lower BMW models are no longer as good. As well as the iDrive controller having gone on all models below 3 Series, the latest iDrive is way too complicated and having driven them back to back I found the latest Hyundai system to be far more intuitive. Unfortunately, with an ever increasing reliance on computers and touch screens, these glitch issues will become far more commonplace, in a way that a button never was!
September 16, 2025 at 11:57 am #312692Thanks glos guy, I do keep looking at the older models, the new gran coupe, was a step down in interior quality and finish, i think the model, i just let go, was the last “solid” bmw. I also wonder if the young designers, are are thinking of folks using voice commands. There seems to be a redundant “tuning” button on the contols, maybe for other markets. Having watched a bit of the big motor show in China on YouTube, the European manufacturers stands were like ghost towns, all the Chinese brands, massive screens, front and rear, nice plush interiors, full of tech, lidar on the roof. Very little switchgear. The future?

Mine does that, but strangely only when the mrs is in the car, which I thought was weird initially, untill I found she had previously been listening to music or other media on her phone before getting in the car or decided to do so whils’t in the car, Bluetooth media, them takes over the system.
Worth looking see if anything playing in the background on your phone.
September 16, 2025 at 3:22 pm #312700Yup, i had been playing bbc sounds over android auto, from the phone.
September 19, 2025 at 2:23 pm #312818Just been asked this question about the doors. Now, the ionic 6 has doubled glazed windows, so harder to smash. Not sure if the interior door handles are electric, the rears have child locks. So apparently the victims could not open the doors and the passing rescuers couldnt either. Then the car burst into flames. Could this happen to the i6? Emergengy services have those massive jaw cutters, but the first respondeds dont.

Tesla is redesigning its door handles after people were left trapped in the cars
Teslas always have a manual release for the doors – it’s just that it’s pretty moronically designed. But you absolutely can open the door after a crash with no power. If you know how – and in that lies the issue, kids usually don’t.
And no, impossible in the I6, for multiple reasons. First, I6 doesn’t have frameless doors, so it doesn’t actually require the window to crack open before releasing the door.
Second, more importantly, you have quite obviously mechanical levers in the interior, not a button to open the door. The only electric part is the outside mechanism to tilt/rotate them out, but that’s not required for door operation, you can just push with your finger to get the handle out.
edit: should clarify in regards to the Tesla, that’s an internal manual door release. It does not have an external manual door release for emergencies. In case of an emergency, you have to go through a window. For Teslas, that’s the rear windows – windshield and front side windows are double glazed.
Tosslers are stupid. Always have been. I’ll grant that they’re to this day still one of the most efficient cars, but that’s where it ends – i wouldn’t want one for free (or rather, i’d take it and sell it immediately to get something else).

So do Teslas.
This system does not work in case of a total power failure, which is the issue in the first place. If you don’t have a total power failure, Teslas electric doors still operate too.
edit: worth pointing out that this issue is inherent to all cars with central locking. They lock when you reach a certain speed (usually around 6mph), and unlock in case of an accident. Unless you knock the 12v off the front of the car, then the doors stay locked. You then have to unlock them from the inside by pulling the door lever.
The issue described by Muc isn’t in regard to the central locking, but in regard to the fact that until very recently, Teslas were unnecessarily complicated/obtuse to open from the interior in case of a power failure. This has nothing to do with the central locking not working, but the fact that some moron thought that a button to open the door is so much cooler or something than a lever.

My misunderstanding – in this case then, the only way out is via the boot/tailgate by using it’s emergency release feature🤔 Lets hope the ICCU don’t fail or worse!
You’d think cars would come with a front and rear emergency release lever!

Yeah very much so. ICCU failures, well.. I’d love to say they don’t happen, but it’s basically the biggest flaw in the I6 (and 5) lol.
Just, knock on wood. There’s always going to be something that could be sorted better, that doesn’t mean the car’s unsafe. As proven by the fact that there hasn’t been any situations yet where this “worst case scenario” happened.
I personally won’t worry about it, but if you’re really desperately scared, put an emergency hammer with glass saw inside the car, or a centre punch, lifehammer, something of that flavour. Hit a corner of the window with it, push it out with your feet.

I do think its a slight overreach, as its reported in the press, its EV’s that catch fire, can’t open doors ect. I did see some release toggle in the boot, I assumed it was for the ev charger flap. In the instance reported a child did escape, but the car was impaled on a tree!
September 19, 2025 at 4:35 pm #312832I think I will get a life hammer, as a point of safety. No use if you are unconscious though.

You could always attach an hammer outside the car, with an “incase of emergency” sign. The downside is, your car likely won’t be there the next morning lol
