After visiting a friend in Glasgow Royal Infirmary me and my wife happened to pass an Arnold Clark Hyundai dealership and went in for a look at the Ioniq 6. The salesman “James Macmillan” had a chat with us and told me that they were discounting the car by £250 and that a V2L charger comes free with the car, that was good enough for me lol.
My wife really likes the car but i thought it would be too low for her but she had a go getting in and out and was happy enough that she ordered one in black with grey interior.
Its getting delivered next week, gulp, and ive only a granny charger, at this point, so that could be interesting. Hopefully Motability can sort me out quickly with an EV charger.
Its an absolute bargain but of course its got to be right for you, but if your looking for an EV that has virtually everything then this could be the answer. The cars design is a bit Marmite but both me and the wife really like it.
The dealership address is:- 345 Alexander Parade, Glasgow G31 3AD
James direct line number is 0141 422 2780
The only person who got all his work done by Friday was Robinson Crusoe.
Anything i post over three lines long please assume it is an article lol. - CreatorTopic

The new Hyundai infotainment system and car road map, unveiled at the investor speech. Let’s hope a little trickles down our way.

September 20, 2025 at 9:12 am #312862Ah, forgot to report.
Drove to New Quay, roughly 200 mile round trip, to pay bloody £40 for 2x fish&chips and two americanos.
More to the point, 4.3mi/kwh, used Google Maps. So far, i am very impressed with the efficiency. Some of the motorway was limited (M4, half of it basically is construction zone currently), but even had a little fun on the way back.
Happy to report that the seats are comfy now too.

Why do they need to follow Tesla, VW group etc and stick a portable TV on the centre of the dash – ccNC overcome the majority of hurdles of the previous software and imo a twin screen always looks better!

Rhossili Bay, is on the list too.
But, apparently, New Quay AGAIN first, this time with mother in law. Joy. 😀

September 25, 2025 at 2:39 am #313024Still cheaper than ICE, considerably. Not really sure i see the issue.
Switch provider to eon or octopus if the savings aren’t big enough.

I agree with @Rene, it’s still considerably cheaper than ICE and I love ICE (cream)! If you look at the standard monthly plan @ 15.7p a kWh, that will get you a minimum of 3 miles, basically circa 2 miles more than an ICE would for the same 15.7p. My Tucson PHEV works out at about 9p per mile 25.5p for the same 3 miles!
Octopus has unlimited charging for £30 month and your not limited to just charging the car.
September 26, 2025 at 1:18 pm #313064Yup, cheers, its all a bit annoying, ovo not working with the charger, and a beta tester for hyundai. I sold the idea of an EV to the OH, as overnight charge of 7p. Maybe I thought it would go to 10p. But the fact it has doubled. Not so clever, as only had the car a week or so. Maybe its a marking coup or massive mistake, as all i see is folks off to Eon or octopus. Bit more difficult for me, as the household bills, are not in my name. I think I will go with the 14p. Payg. As rene, says, its still cheaper with this tariff. For me its still not clear, what that means, is it instant charge at 14p anytime or wait for a charging schedule, and the external charge if on a sub, is worth about £10 a month. But can’t work out with whom. The supplier might charge £1kw. Still learning, and thanks for the input.
September 26, 2025 at 1:23 pm #313065Here’s a table showing the tariffs with the 14p payg. Still slightly confused as the i6 is quite efficient. And i have only topped it up at Sainsbury’s once.
September 26, 2025 at 1:26 pm #313066That’s the charge at sainsbury.
September 27, 2025 at 2:49 pm #313100Slightly different topic, de-dusted my foam MJJC foam lance, ordered a few bits and bobs (Autobrite Shampoo, Alien Magic purple foam, Soft99 Fusso light, Soft99 Clay Bar, Soft99 Rain Drop Tornado Vortex) and will go ahead on tuesday, washing, claying and waxing the car. Planning around 6-8 hours for the full menu.
Also planning to take off 3 weeks after to recuperate.

Next: we'll see what's available in 2028.September 28, 2025 at 9:01 am #313109Ha ha, they are big cars, too old now, to work at speed, they are tricky around the rear fins. I just hit mine with polar seal, and a wipe of ceramic spray. I have two of the autoglym foam guns, a bit useless, i really like the look of the mjjc, I keep meaning to get hold of autoglym, to see if they can replace them. I can’t get the mesh filter out, the mechanisms are rock solid and I dont have a vice. I think my detailing is probably done for the winter now, may squeeze in a quick wash and seal at the end of October. Then its the guys at the local hand wash, they will probably charge me big car rate!! Folks keep saying the hyundai paint is very thin, so will watch for scratches, I thought the bmw paint was thin, the white showed up, stone chips.
September 28, 2025 at 10:26 am #313115I’ve read that too, about the thin paint – but in the end.. we got pearl white, my eyesight is barely good enough to see micro-scratches on dark paints lol, i won’t see anything on white.
I do love my MJJC – it’s by no means a £500 pro-level lance, but hey – for £50, it’s not even comparable to the karcher crap etc i had prior. Built like a tank, too – it’s by now around 6 years old, still not even a hint of deterioration (apart from filters that i change reasonably regularly).
My main concern currently is the Fusso wax – i know it’s great, but there are a few things that i’ll be struggling with. Mainly, drying time. I can’t really see it haze up on white paint – buff too early, and it’s going to be an oily/streaky mess. Buff too late, and i’ll be buffing for a few hours (only manual buffing, i’m not good at machine polishing and with the concern about paint strength, i’d rather not). So that’s going to be interesting.
I’ll be careful claying, but i do think it needs doing – clear coat doesn’t feel smooth enough to my liking, done it on all our new cars – makes a big difference, imo.
Over the winter, i’ll be maintaining with Soft99 Speed and Barrier, which is a top coat designed for Fusso wax.
The only other concern is now, order of business. The intent is to rinse, foam, rinse, shampoo/scrub, rinse, clay with shampoo, rinse, dry, wax, buff/polish. The main issue is that the Tornado Vortex spray requires wet application – whereas the car needs to be dry for the wax (and can’t rinse straight after wax application). The windows (minus windshield, i absolutely despise getting any product on the windscreen), roof and piano black parts (spoiler/rear “diffusor” etc) need to be wet, so i’ll probably be hand-pumping water after wax.
I wanted to coat the wheels too, but not entirely certain on that one – they’re diamond cut, but they have deep ridges in the cuts (you can feel them with the fingernail), so wax may get stuck in there/be a pain in the rear to buff. Might see if i can use the tornado vortex there. Also.. While they look great, their shape is awful for working on them lol.
Alas.. Gonna pitch my oxygen tent on tuesday and just see how it goes.

Next: we'll see what's available in 2028.September 28, 2025 at 11:58 am #313120Automotive paint is crap compared to what it once was. Cellulose 2 pack, with high levels of isocyanite and then solvent based. Today’s paints are water based colour with low isocyanite clearcoats making paints less tough. Enviromental and health risks continue to see changes automotive paint.
If you consider a human hair is 70 microns, the image just shows how thin paint is today.
October 2, 2025 at 4:45 pm #314745Today was finally the day.
I’m currently lying on a stretcher in my oxygen tent, but after a total of 5.5 hours, the car is properly washed, clayed and fusso’d (and a bit of rainX on side/rear windows and plastic trim).
Turns out, my “fears” were correct, it’s basically impossible to judge the drying time of wax on white paint, got lucky by guessing a random-ish number of minutes to wait (in my case, 5:30 minutes). The horror stories about Fusso wax didn’t come true – i did panel by panel, applying, waiting, buffing – worked a treat, just took forever.
The hydrophobicity is off the charts, took a glass of water to the bonnet – it actually leaves like two or three drops behind, the rest all runs off – looks like bloody teflon. It’s supposed to last 12 months, but even if i only get half that.. very happy. The tub is going to outlast me as well, for sure.
RainX is whatever, but the wax is quite insane, very recommended. Maybe just not on a white car, unless you have a second person (the wife) checking your buff-work and pointing out all the spots you missed (and still couldn’t see after being pointed out lol).
My back is killing me now, though.
edit: Bonnet and front clip were awful, so much crap in the clear coat – felt like claying sandpaper. The rest of the car was within reason. Did roughly 30cm x 30cm sections, using Clay Bar Glide by Auto Finesse with a Soft99 “smoother” Clay Bar, buffing after each section.

I do like white, and the i6, does look fab in the colour, with added gloss. Love a stormtrooper look. I did find on the white bmw, a rub of autoglyms, SRP, helped with any scrapes, and funny ingrained dirt, not just tar. Its old school, but may be of use during the winter grime. Back from hols now so gotta to grip with this machine. Have ordered from the sun lounger, a lower storage panel for the dssh partion, from Ali. Will let you know, how it goes.

Seen the storage panel on Amazon (and subsequently on Ali, for a fifth of the price lol) – let me know how the fit is, if it fits proper i’ll be ordering one too, my glasses slide back and forth in the partition, annoying.
For winter grime and general maintenance for now with the wax, i’ll be sticking with Purple Haze by Alien Magic foam and Autobrite Purple Velvet shampoo, then a quick rub down with Soft99 Speed and Barrier to “top up” the wax.
I will say, the shape of the car kind of sucks for washing. So many nooks and crannies. But, worth it – looks like a million bucks now. Also, just rained, of course, lol.

edit:
Also, after reading the Stormtrooper reference, the car is now called Finn. Can’t unsee it.

I use a battery makita, leaf blower, altough i wish i had the smaller one. for all the drips, especially now its colder. Folks use pet dryers, warm air, but they can be expensive, and i dont have any pets, except next doors cat, who pops in for a dreamie or two.
October 3, 2025 at 11:03 am #314897IT Dusters CompuCleaner is what i use, from Amazon.
Couldn’t have used warm air after waxing anyway, so they’re kinda moot. The only thing i would like to give a shot is a “hot” pressure washer (as in, hot water) – but i can’t justify the prices they’re charging.

I use Auto Finesse ceramic infused glass protecter at the moment, till stock runs out. Unfortunately, they stopped doing it and replaced with Repel (hydrophobic glass coating) Ebay might still have some old stock left cheap.
Rain X, was downgraded to house windows only – horrible stuff!
Bet it looks nice now you have done it, just a shame it’s pissing down the day after.

I had a choice: either do the car with RainX, or don’t do it at all.
Not a fan of RainX either (though it does appear to do its thing for now), but i had to use something. I intended to use Soft99 Rain Drop Vortex Tornado (mouthful) – but the bottle leaked in transit and arrived empty. Since i don’t use anything on the wind shield, i used RainX and RainX plastic (for spoiler and piano black trim/spoiler).. No harm, really.
Once that lets go, it’ll be Soft99 Rain Drop though.

It does bead and roll off (on the roof, window is untreated because i despise streaking wipers), if it lasts a few weeks, that’s good enough – just need it to bridge the gap until replacement bottle arrives lol. Becton Detailling Supplies service in that regard was absolutely spot on.
That, and new set of wiper blades, then i’m happy. Will use Bosch Aerotwin, imho best wiper blades available, i use them on any car that can mount them.
Edit: in the picture, RainX on the sunroof, nothing on the Glass and RainX plastic on the piece between. And yeah, looked like a million bucks. Fusso light really pulled a deep/wet gloss out of the pearl.

Soft99 is a japanese manufacturer, yeah. Ali is chinese, not quite the same. 😛
It’s also a quite frequently cloned product, so i’d personally only buy from reputable sources. Fun fact, i got a bottle of Glaco (polish) here, too. Bought it to get Autobrite Magiseal of the bloody windscreen of the Ateca – when i started out “detailing”, i didn’t realise how much i’d hate product on the windscreen.

Soft99 does a lot of rather useful things. The one last piece to the puzzle for me is something that works well on the rims – can’t really use the Fusso due to the piano black plastic inserts (and the fact that it’d get stuck in the machining lines).
