This is the place for reasoned comment or questions about Brexit …. Posts must stay respectful at all times even when we believe that other posters are wrong.

A sharper Brexit focus now, just 54 weeks to agree a trade deal. Many people are relaxed now the threat of Corbyn is gone and optimism is rising fast as the county is equipped to take full advantage of Brexit and I suspect in a couple of years all the scare stories will prove to be just that as we thrive andand grow as a country.
December 17, 2019 at 10:42 pm #100330I believe I read it had to be good to go by September so there was time to hawk it around the EU nations.
December 19, 2019 at 10:46 am #100510I feel it will all be sorted out very quickly now. Indyref 2 in 2022 and a narrow remain in uk vote 47.5/52.5

brydoI do believe the independence vote in Scotland will fail, although that’s not what I want. Out of my close family, of about 20, I am the only one pro independence.
December 19, 2019 at 12:29 pm #100527I bet you have some great conversations around the Christmas dinner table, Brydo!
December 19, 2019 at 12:55 pm #100530Christmas lunch topics. The weather. 18th century Italian renesaaiance painters. Darts. Model railway exhibitions and fashion particularly pertaining to bathrooms.

where’s all the festive spirit gone? Feel free to suggest a topic? World cups of the past. Architecture of the doric era for example. Toilet roll holders. The list is endless.
December 19, 2019 at 1:41 pm #100537Fighting to keep the grandchildren’s food off the floor and other related matters tends not to allow time for erudite conversation in this household. Did I mention it’s chaos here at Christmas?
December 19, 2019 at 1:59 pm #100543The only reason it is valid is Brexit, when another vote is held it should be the last. It should not be a decision for Westminster it should be dealt with in Scotland by the Scottish people.
If any party continues to bring independence votes every few years without good reason should be voted out by the Scottish people.
The only person who got all his work done by Friday was Robinson Crusoe.
Anything i post over three lines long please assume it is an article lol.December 19, 2019 at 2:19 pm #100544Has anyone saw a 2020 Jo Swinson calendar yet ??
December 19, 2019 at 2:23 pm #100545Agree Brydo. I think 2nd referendum should be held 2021 after we know Brexit deal. All parties need a gentlemens agreement that the result will be implemented and if the SNP lose no indyref 3for at least 25 years.
December 19, 2019 at 2:25 pm #100547Who should be Labour’s next leader? I haven’t voted Labour in 40 years but Jess Phillips or Lisa Bandy would be good choices. Long Bailey, Thornburry or Starmer would be good for the Tories.
December 19, 2019 at 2:32 pm #100548Nandy. Typo.
December 19, 2019 at 4:17 pm #100554Nandy is the stand out candidate as far as I am concerned. She just ‘gets it’ and it’s effortless. She also has a lot of respect from the all sides of the house.
December 19, 2019 at 10:15 pm #100589I have said it before – after the ‘experience’ of growing up in the People’s Republic of South Wales, which is totally dominated politically by Labour ( the old saying of pin a red rose on a donkey and it’ll get elected is true ) ,I will never vote Labour!
Our democracy needs a good solid opposition party to keep the government of the day in check, but we haven’t had that, we have gone through 2 – 3 years of misguided opposition for the sake of it, simply for narrow minded political gain and expediency, with no thought for the electorate – but traditional Labour voters have proven that they are not so easily taken in, hence the worst electoral result for Labour for many years!
Corbyn was a danger to the Uk and people knew it, he and his gang of trots were a World away from traditional Labour, now he’s a bad joke, and Thornbury, Starmer, Long Bailey are tainted by him, and Angela Raynor is incapable of holding down this type of job – each of them would be cannon fodder for Boris and his team, really easy meat, and that would be letting the country down?
The very best candidate of all is Caroline Flint who is not in Parliament at present, but an early ( voluntary stepping down ) bi-election could solve that one, or perhaps they could look at someone like Kinnock , or persuade David Milliband? , none of whom is tainted by Corbynism?
We need a clean break from Corbyn and Momentum, otherwise this once decent party will be assigned to the Bin of history!
December 19, 2019 at 10:46 pm #100591Politics is about presentation. Rayner, Long Baily, Thornberry & Starmer I think will play out badly with the public.
December 20, 2019 at 4:08 pm #100686The Brexit bill has passed by 124 and at last we now know we shall, On 31st January, be leaving the EUROPEAN union. The country can relax and enjoy the seasonal festivities prior to 2020 which could be this country’s greatest yet. The far left now has iron grip on Labour. Perhaps many wishing to stand as leader may fail to secure requisite number MP’s and other backing from union’s too. The Whigs libdem very much in retreat and EU sobering up after debacle of May as ineffective PM. A very sharp focus needed to ensure a deal reached and of course if it fails then much of £39b shall remain in coffees here however I feel a deal to be agreed and the country shall prosper putting thoughts on Blair Adonis and many others firmly into waste recepticle along with their reputation. I feel too we see scrapping HS2 with monies used to improve railways across country as a whole . Rural AFFAIRS,such a key issue shall become of higher importance but we shall see transformation of Northern parts of England and Midlands together with parts of South and South West and better NHS provision where we see more staff from around world. In February a reshuffle awaits and excitement is building already.
December 20, 2019 at 4:23 pm #100688I don’t want to see more NHS staff from around the world. Those countries who trained their doctors and nurses should get the benefit of them, not have them poached by richer countries. We should take responsibility and train our own and retain them. It can’t be hard, other countries manage it.
