Thanks for all the replies 🙂

They all seem to make sense and are just symptomatic of everything being in short supply or delayed.

As regards the cars I agree with kezo that the Megane looks an attractive proposition – bit of a soft spot for Renault as my first new car was a Renault 5 – TS Sport in black – 0-60 was a few milliseconds quicker than the standard model and it rolled it’s way round corners !

00 One of these is a much cheaper option….

That looks almost identical to the one in the boot of our existing car but when I came to fit one to the Ioniq I discovered there was absolutely nowhere to attach it. Seeing your picture though prompted me to have another go and surprisingly the suction mount canabalised from an old phone mount has stuck  🙂

        So thanks to all

Thanks for the replies 🙂  I have to admit to failing to follow the RTFF protocol as there is already a recent thread on these assistance systems. The original poster on that also can’t find much out from the manufacturers websites.

Anyway, it is a bit academic now as I have just ordered an Ioniq electric car and I am super excited as the local dealer has one on stock and earlier I went to pay the deposit and the car was there waiting for me with my name on it. Not bad considering I only went to have a look at one yesterday.

I have broken my main aim which was to get a higher SUV type model ! There just was not one available that ticked all the other boxes. I still managed to get all the driver aids and what finally swung it for me was reading a review by a guy who had lived with one for a week and he said that you can use the two paddles on the steering wheel to control the regenerative braking and when this is mastered it is possible to not use the brake pedal in normal driving. He said this was extremely satisfying and relaxing and I really can imagine it.

To Dale, I can agree from personal experience that VW have safe cars as before we got the Audi we always had VW golf’s apart from a gorgeous VW that never sold well in the UK called the Corrado. I am certain this saved my life or serious injury as I was driving round a sweeping bend on the approach to tbe Runcorn/Widnes Bridge. This is a very satisfying bend to drive on as it gently opens out and the amount of camber is perfect. It was 6 in the morning with hardly any traffic about and I floored the Corrado (which has a supercharger) 0and was accelerating fast at about 85 when a car pulled out of a slip road and to my horror just crossed the two inside lanes and was suddenly in front of me doing a fraction of my speed. I litterally slammed the brakes on as hard as I could and swerved inside of him and passed within inches. There was smoke everywhere and the idiot who pulled out on front of me for no reason whatsoever got the shock of his life lol. I pulled over into the bus stop just before you get to the bridge and got out, shaking all over. I remember the overiding thought that the Corrado had just saved my life. It had massively wide low profile tyres and only a week earlier I had taken it to a specialist garage for some exotic steering geometry tuning and I’m sure not many cars could take a violent alteration of course in those circumstances and remain under control. I remember vividly thinking how amazing the brain is in extremis as my decision to turn left rather then go between the car and the barrier involved imagining that the barrier would slow me and I might run along it but then I thought there may be a kerb that might flip me over. These thoughts seemed instant and afterwards it felt like I had two thought processes going on together – one steering the car and tbe another deciding my best course of action. The brain must have a system to slow down time (or work faster depending on how you look at it). I put it down as a valuable lesson learned – that is not to trust anyone else’s driving. Saying that, you can never allow for someone to enter a four lane bit of road and put themselves in the fast lane doing maybe less than 30. There was some mad selfish logic in his/her decision though as under a mile further on, the road splits into two after crossing the two lane bridge at 40mph. The bit I was on was 70 then but these days would probably be 50 or 60 in preparation for the 40 zone ahead.

That was all 30 odd years ago and now safety both for myself and others is my priority. I am sure I’m not alone in half dreading the next updated Motablity list. I have seriously considered waiting to see what changes there are. I might have preferred the Niro all electric which gets fantastic reviews and is a crossover SUV shape that I wanted. However I thought maybe the Ioniq wouod be withdrawn and anyway it does not have blind spot/rear cross traffic alert and driver awareness which are key parts of a Level Two autonomous system – although given the mystery surrounding these aids I would not be surprised in the least if it was a mistake by Kia when writing down the spec 😉

I’ll see if there is a Iconiq electric owners thread on here and report my experiences there.

          Thanks again

          Paul
