I collected mine today, it arrived around 3 weeks ago at the dealer from 1st Feb order – it is a My25 spec . I could have collected it on a 24 plate but an extra 3 weeks out of 7 months seemed insignificant, so asked them to hold on and register it as a 74 plate, I have never had a new car on the first day of the new plate, so a little treat to myself after a long wait !
The car itself, I am very pleased with in the 20 miles I have driven it. I did have a wobble whilst waiting and have been looking at others, while I could cancel the order, but the AP of £1499 was the main factor, as well as the wonderful Volvo seats which are so comfortable for me.
I asked about current lead times for anyone ordering now and the dealer said it was 5-6 months, in case this is helpful for anyone.
Thank you for such a helpful post. I have heard nothing from my sales rep, but in his defence, he said I wouldn’t hear until the car was pretty much on site, as he was upfront that dealers didn’t get told anything on fleet orders, so my expecations were managed. The delay is not a problem for me as I am happy in my current Motability Tiguan indeed will be very sad to see it go.
I am intrigued whether I will get a My24 or My25 from my 1st Feb order. I would prefer the My25, so I guess I will be one of the 24ss- again something Adrian can’t tell me.
It is baffling to me how a factory can be ” shut down” and ” retooled” for the My25 spec, yet cars not built before ” shutdown” are arriving as My24s.
My car requirements have changed since I ordered , due to this, not the delay, I am seriously thinking of cancelling and ordering an Audi Q4 from stock , I can’t quite make my mind up . The higher AP is a factor, but Audi seats / the driving position suit my dodgy back and knees. I am beginning to dread dealing with Volvo for servicing for the next 3 years.
I am a veteran of XC90s when my kids were younger and am sad to see the brand in such chaos.
I ordered 1st Feb 24, no date given, but told “April-May”
Now told it will be May build and July delivery
Newbury, West Berkshire.
So I have now had ” the phone call” from my very laid back chap Adrian in Waylands Newbury. He was a bit sheepish and said ” i have news, it may not be good news, but it is at least some information”.
My order from 1st Feb is now due in July ” hopefully”.
And it is going to be a MY24 version
He gave me some bluster about the factory being shut down and not re-opening till May .
As I love my current R line Tiguan , I am not in any hurry for the XC40, which is good thing given April has now turned into July. If I was carless, or running an unreliable /expensive non scheme car, then I would be mightily P’d off. As I was at the 10 month time I had between ordering my Tiguan and delivery.
Of course, dealers get paid on private sales, not on Motability, so of course they will prioritise those , particularly coming up to the end of a quarter and also likely their financial year. Motability sales don’t generate any profit for the dealers.
Yes I have seen quite a lot , drive the M4 daily but also 3 or 4 in my hometown .
When we see one, if I have my daughter in the car with me, ( who is the PIP claimant so whose car it is ) then points at the XC40 and says ” new XC40, ours is coming soon”, to which I reply ” so is Christmas”.
For those of us who ordered in January do you think we will get a MY24 car or MY25 with upgraded seats and blind spot assistance ? I am in two minds whether to cancel or re-order as I am not in a hurry for mine .
I’ve just ordered a B3Plus Dark to replace a much loved R Line Tech Tiguan we have had for 5 years this month. Have been prevaricating as really did not want to spend £3K AP to try and get as close to the R Line Tech spec as possible. With the addition of spare wheel and blacked out windows, the XC40 will cost me £2K, minus the New Car allowance of £750, so £1200 for a lot of car – and comfortable lumbar support which is the most important thing for me. It feels dark inside compared to the Tiguan with the wide windows and pano roof, but first world problems.
I am nervous of the MPG I will get as I am used to the 40-50 I get in the diesel Tiguan, but I barely managed 25 in a hired Qashqai recently, so I am hoping for nearer 30 than 20.
If you are in the M4 corridor/Thames Valley area I recommend the service from Adrian at Waylands Newbury – very straightforward, pragmatic guy, happy to deal with me/ offered immediate appointments and test drives, despite being the lowest form of customer, a Motability customer, and clear instructions on what to bring to put the order through. Ive been told 3-4 months, as long as it is on the 24 plate I am happy and I get to enjoy the spec on my Tiguan for a few more months !
In stark contrast to dismissive manner from sales team I encountered in Waylands Swindon, which I do not recommend.
