Look’s like the Ford Kuga Auto has gone through the roof.

I know what you mean and the rica.org site shows models that are several years out of date as they don’t seem to catch up on facelifts or updated models.

When I looked at the Ford Kuga last year they had the Mk 1 model but the latest Mk2 chances are the dimensions have change and even if they haven’t your left wondering.

With VW it’s a bit easier as their brochures have a diagram with measurement in them but admit I’ve spent much time in showrooms with a tape measure.

I’ve heard this many, many times about the AC using more petrol and indeed in VW’s consumption meters it shows a tiny bit being used, but what I’ve never got my head around is if the engine is running and assuming the AC compressor has a belt connected to the engine like the alternator and water pump and all the other things in there I can’t imagine it adding that much to the engines burden.

Or does the AC have its own fuel supply, I don’t know, but it’s always puzzled me so anyone know the exact technical answer.

Come to think of it I’ve seen it in some car brochures about LED lighting saving fuel because of their low energy consumption but can only imagine it only saves a thimble full over a few hours of the engine running but then they argue that it saves a few gallons of fuel over the life time of the car. LoL

            Hello Mo Chara and welcome.

It’s a bit of a worry because the forum must be working on auto pilot and it’s just another thirty eight and a half hours to Q3.

Maybe the mods are down the pub with the guy from Motability trying to jump the gun on Q3.

Sorry Mo, some of us are not just disabled, but were mad too.

Not sure what self4 means by “re-condition car” but I assume your looking for an ex-Motability car that someone may have to sell but I don’t understand the re-condition bit or perhaps you mean good condition Motability car.

I think manufactures don’t add it as standard because some folk find the fine mesh interferes with their vision out through the windscreen more so when the sun is at a particular angle.

Also, but not a problem for Motability customers, after a few years, as in my old 94 Ford Escort Giha some of the filaments’ stop working so you get some parts of the windscreen defrosting and not others and of course sod’s law it’s the driver’s side that stays frozen while the passenger side is clear as a bell.

That was with a 4 year old car so like I said shouldn’t affect Mota customers and chances are they’ve mastered the technique to be more reliable today and I won’t say no to this feature now.

Like lcd7080 I’ve always found that situation described there a problem too though I never thought about trying it in Sports mode like Glos Guy mentioned but after a few trials back when I first had my car (late 2014) I’ve not used it so way down my list for must haves but another reason for lack of enthusiasm for this system is that in my Golf the controls for ACC are on the left-hand side and I have adaption that enable me to drive just using my right hand only. I’m sure I would use it more if I was still a non-disabled driver but while I pay AP’s to get tech that makes it easier as a disabled driver we have to accept we also pay for things we just can’t use.

While I’ve always been a bit of a teckie nut and love it very much one thing that’s been added to many cars today (may be compulsory now) and that’s the TPMS as I found this system unreliable and from a disabled driver point of view a complete nightmare ?

Last year Motability had in there Lifestyle mag about how helpful some of these gadgets are to help disabled driver and one of them was tyre monitoring and I just couldn’t help but to write to them on the subject of TPMS and how dangerous for disabled drivers this ill thought out system is and I then explained my case while going on holiday last summer on a high summer Saturday mid-day M5 Somerset and Devon motorway and I’m sure many of you are aware of this motorway at this time of the year with the Caravan Club of Great Britain in there hordes is nowhere for me to get the little tyre warning icon on my dash light up along with the lovely “dinnngg”.

Having had that while keeping with the traffic at 70 MPH I now have to slow down and try and mingle in with the traffic and caravans in the slower lanes, but having done that and realising there is no instability in the car I decide to keep moving in the slow lane to the next exit and get off the motorway and check the wheels. I had to drive on another mile before I could find somewhere to pull of the main roads so I can open the door wide and stumble around the car and guess what, nothing wrong with them tyres so a dangerous avoidable manoeuvre on a motorway and another half an hour added to my journey all for nothing.

Motability suggested that the next time I’m passing my dealer ask them to disengaging the system with OBD but it would be better not to have something in the car that’s unreliable in the first place.

I had this happen again yesterday while trying to get my granddaughter to a hospital out patients appointment that we almost missed because of the finding a suitable place to pull over (knowing its more than likely a false alarm again) and having to check the wheels in a safe place again.

It’s not just the Golf as it used to happen quite often in my Seat Leon but it could be a WAG thing or worst, it could just be me.

This is what’s worry me with the VW SEL models going through the roof, beside the Tiguan if you look at the AP price for the VW Touran the SEL is cheaper than the SE although I admit the SE’s are more powerful engines but it still seems to be at odds.

I seen a news item, may have been the Beeb, that Ford and VW are getting together to produce a new model so we may in future see Ford’s with decent engines.

That said, I’ve never had any problems with the engine or gearboxes in Fords or VW in the many years I’ve driven them.

Could be some folk just don’t know how to drive or look after an engine like the guy across the road from me who every day through the Winter revs his engine up into thousands of RPM to get the engine warmed up before setting off on a icy morning.

With the CD player in the box it only leaves room for a couple of chocolate bars but then the first CD player (add on player) I had in a car used to jump, skip and never run on hot days so is that feature to keep your choc cool or the CD player.

Thought I just add, I’m talking about the Golf M7 so probably the glove compartment on the Tigger is bigger.

For one they do not save you money like they try to make out.

The only way they can save money is when you turn the kettle on to make a cuppa then realise how much that cost so you don’t bother.

I think the smart meters might save the government money through killing off old aged pensioners as they will look at the meter at the end of sub zero winter’s day and think to themselves they can’t afford to spend that sort of money keeping warm and turn the heating off the next day and die of hyperthermia. That’s one less pension to pay out the end of the month so yes the smart meters do save money.

Must admit I have a warp sense of human. LoL

My daughters got one and a few months back it recorded she used thousands of pounds of electric in one day though it did correct itself.

Her meter send’s data back to British Gas via the mobile phone network and not by wifi.
