I’ve read on a site about changing the VW voices and apparently (unless it’s changed the past year) you only have the choice of the posh bird or a depressing male voice.

I’ve not got a VW satnav at this moment in time but the two voices are selected, not through the satnav menu as you would expect but through the general car menu where you select UK English and somewhere there in is also a choice of the male or female voice for the satnav.

Certainly no chance of Homer Simpson or Victor Meldrew.

That’s already happening with Google as just last week I went to a VW dealer and about 30 minutes later I had a message from Google asking “how was my visit” and “what’s your rating of this dealer”.

One day they may get it I don’t bother to answer but then again they probably won’t.

I’m hoping the satnav in my next car actually does what I want it to ?

When I got my Motability Seat Leon back 2011 it had a built in satnav and it was next to, but not completely, rubbish and ended up with me going to Halfords and buying a Tom-Tom that had/has Live Traffic.

90% of the times I’m only using the satnav to see traffic jams up ahead on my journeys on known to me roads and it has saved me hours of not sitting in jams. It must of looked a bit silly to those who were behind me back then as they could see my two satnav glowing in the dark.

Move on to my next car and no need to worry about if it has a satnav because I’ve got one that’s better than the ones that come with the car anyways and linked to a smartphone for traffic data it cost 1p an hour using 1p mobile or Three’s 3-2-1 or o2 classic PAYG sim as the Tom-Tom uses less than a Mb per hour.

That said it’s still a pain in the butt having to have wires for power trailing over the dash and is why with the advent of Android Auto and Apple Car, or whatever they call it that I hope my new cars satnav is going to work the way I want it to, if not, out comes the Tom-Tom again for the third car.

So what I’m saying if you don’t want to pay the extra for built in satnav your more than likely better off buying a Halfords satnav and I admit car manufactures want way over the odds for something that cost £130 but has the convenience of having no trailing power wires.

Here hoping to retire my 5 year old satnav soon, but you never know.

I think Motability thinking behind having factory fresh cars is they don’t get caught in the “last year’s model” trap.

With models being superseded or face lifted every few years they want to make sure, if they can, that cars returned after 3 years will still have some resemblance to the current model of today and therefore fetch a better price.

Just my thinking of how Motability maybe thinking.

I see the new VW Q3 price list has now been published and a few interesting things are showing up there in with the old 1.4 TSi engine and the new 1.5 TSi engine and having a quick look, so forgive me if I got some wrong but this is how it adds up.

Golf : 1.4 TSi stock only.

Golf : 1.5 TSi factory ordered.

Golf SV : 1.5 TSi only factory order.

Passat : 1.4 TSi some from stock some factory order.

Passat : 1.5 TSi not available.

Tiguan : 1.4 TSi mostly stock only but few models factory order = 1.4 TSi 2WD non ACT.

                Tiguan: 1.5 TSi not available.

Touran : 1.4 TSi factory order SEL only.

Touran : 1.5 TSi not available.

Sharan : 1.4 TSi factory order.

Sharan : 1.5 TSi not available.

I ordered a VW Touran in the week gone by and with the low AP (less a discount) on this quarter I decided to add more extra’s than I normally do that add up to around £900 all told.

Previously with other Motability cars I’ve always paid off everything like extra’s and adaption’s so I’m just left with the AP to pay when I collect the car but as the sales guy asked if I minded paying a £500 deposit I decided to go with that and just as a bit of extra security I paid with a credit card that I always payoff at the end of the month.

My thinking behind paying a deposit is to off load the impact of a large Winter bill as its the Winter when I collect the car.

Don’t that particular part of WLTP come into force in September ?

I have not read much about this new testing system but this accessories thing is really nothing but a joke with it testing how many MPG with this CD player and how many MPG with that CD player.

I’m ordering a Touran later today and wonder if they know how many MPG the car will produce with my 42 Kilo scooter on board with a 3 zone climate control or how many if I take the scooter out and put 10 boxes of cornflakes in and only have standard A/C.

Wish you good luck on the Skoda reply.

If it can’t be removed what do you do if you have a puncture ?

                      Only joking.

I don’t know how the spare tyre bit works with other WAG cars but my Golf came with space saver wheel as standard but my car before, a Seat Leon only had one of those silly repair kits and a compressor but you could add a wheel as an upgrade option.

If you check the new build details for that model and trim you got there does it come with a standard spare that’s the same as the other four wheels or does it come with a space saver or one of those silly kits.

If it’s only comes with a silly kit then someone has order that spear wheel as an extra and the dealer is trying to recover that cost.

Where you go with that I don’t know but best of luck.

I was wondering where it was I posted this comment and have say I’ve been in contact with Motability today and they said if the search on their site says the AP price for Q3 is £999 then that’s the price, end of.

The VW Touran 1.4 TSi DSG is a bargain at £999 AP. I’ve not checked non DSG models but these should be cheaper still.

Most of if not all of the SUV I’ve looked at have been just a bit shy in space within the boot to carry my scooter without dismantling it so I’ve ruled those out but everyman and child have their needs so what I find lacking other may say it’s just the job.

The downside to the seven seaters is the length of the car and what I really would like to see is something like the Dr Who’s Tardis that’s has a five seat footprint on the outside and seven seat footprint on the inside, I would pay extra for that.

I’m not too worry about swirls on a Motability car being disabled and all that, its hard enough just checking the oil. LoL

I do look after the general upkeep of the car and return them after 3 years in almost as good as a condition for that when I collected it from the showroom.

So for me it’s a coats of hard wax twice per year as recommended by VW, once in the Spring and again in the Autumn and in-between its automatic washers according to how dirty it looks. I do the ali-wheels by hand because auto washer don’t reach those parts to good but boy that kills me for the rest of the day and is why I only do them once a month.

Don’t suppose you ordered any extra’s and if so did they give you a percentage of those.

All the best with your order and hopes for a speedy delivery.

Just an update to this sub thread about stock cars and there AP prices.

Today I’ve been on the phone to Motability to pay off my dues and I am now able to order a new car.

While being asked if there anything else they could help me with I said about a local VW dealer saying he could only order the car I want under Q2 prices because Q3 prices have not been published by the manufacture yet but the dealer also said that if I went to them and ordered the price may come up as the Q3 price so no problem that’s the price I would be charged.

When I put this to Motability they said if the Motability Q3 AP search says its £999 for a VW Touran SEL 1.4 TSi DSG then its £999 regardless what the dealer may say and as there is only one price listed for the car, that’s the price that’s to be used on the order from the factory or of the self.

                                Soon find out tomorrow.

At the moment I’m playing ping-pong between two VW dealers and my local dealer has just come back to me about an e-mail I sent them yesterday (or more like an ultimatum as I’m getting nowhere with my order LoL) about ordering a VW Touran 1.4 TSi SEL DSG.

I gave the dealer the Motability reference number for the car and asked if the new Q3 AP of £999 (down from £1,499) was for stock only or can be factory ordered.

He was just about confused as I am and he said they check their bulletin and no update from VW on prices have come through yet but asked where I got the Motability car code from ??? , I said that’s the one that goes along with the £999 AP for that car.

He then went on to say he could not guarantee it would be £999 if I went down tomorrow and ordered but said he could order at the Q2 price of £1,499 but then said if I was to order tomorrow the price could well be £999 and as no-one has order a Touran since the price change he doesn’t know what the price will be on the Motability computer in the showroom. That sound strange as surly they can check that before starting the order process or do you sit there for an hour then at the end told the higher price then say, no deal.

BTW they would not give a discount on the AP though I’m not that worried about that if the price really is £999.

Forgot to add, he also said he was unaware of any changes to the engine in that particular model so I’m just hoping that low price is good for factory orders and for the SEL Touran he said their information from VW in build times is 17 weeks so a little bit better than 37 weeks I’ve been told before or did the guy who wrote 37 weeks make a typo.

Thought I’d just add something else that just came to mind and that’s there is no stock of the SEL version at my local or at the other dealer over the hills and far away.

Typical bone idol British businessman expecting to sit on their backsides or play golf all day while the business comes to them and nothing to do with Britex, just to do with being lazy.

Last year up to April was a record breaking year simply because of the tax changes that came in in April so you will not see that again, after all if you couldn’t sell 3 million cars then, you’re never going to sell 3 million cars.

You can bypass the EU and source your VW’s from Mexico as I’m sure the Mexican or VW wouldnt give a toss how the car get here. Get it into your business heads, were leaving the EU and if you can’t hack it get yourselves off to Germany to live, but be warned, you will have to do a day’s work for a day’s pay over there.

All the big high street shops closing down, nothing to do with Britex but mostly to do with laziness and not bothered about the internet. Let’s face, I’ve been buying from the internet for over 18 years now and most of these so called businessmen can’t even see the writing on the wall for them because there to busy counting up their bonuses.

I’ve never seen that before but then it is hidden in the small print, well that’s my excuse anyway.

Looking through that list it seems it’s only the “Up” and “Tiguan” that has the statement “Please note these models are only available from stock and are not available to factory order” and I can only actually see the reference marked against the Up.

It will be interesting to see what models this appears on when the latest list it arrives.

That’s what I fear but of course would prefer the new engine but not the new, no doubt, AP price increase.

Thinking about it though, why don’t they list another price with the 1.5 TSi or do you reckoned that will be added later in the month when all old stock has gone, if it hasn’t already.

                                              Are my eye’s deceiving me?

August 17 I was looking at the VW Touran SEL 1.4 TSi DSG and the AP was £1,699 but I had to put that off until May this year but then the AP had gone down to £1,499 so great but had to put of my order again until the 3rd July (long story but can be found around here somewhere) so was worried about the price increases.

Today’s price for that car is now £999 and I just can’t believe my luck or have Motability made a mistake and it should read £1,999 or maybe they stopped making this model and its only stock and of course they haven’t got any left.

Just waiting to see this in writing in the VW Motability price list that I assume will be out sometime this week before breaking open the champagne.

I feel like I’m just going for my PIP F2F and looking out for disappointment.

BTW I bought 24 full size Magnus for a tenner in Farmfoods this week, a bargain, had to have the AC on full all the way home to make sure they got home safe and sound.
