I picked up my new XC40 3 weeks ago. After about 8 days the support bars in the seat base started sticking into my buttocks, legs, and in one case when exiting the car the bar went between my a##e cheeks and hurt my errrrm …….. hole. The passenger seat is fine and so was the driver’s seat in an identical test drive vehicle, which had a few hundred miles on it, so the seats were well broken in.
They didn’t have a courtesy car available till today, then tried to put me in a manual, which I can’t drive. They then found an automatic Toyota Yaris, which I struggled to safely get in or out of. I raised the seat to it’s highest level, but when doing that my legs were touching the steering wheel and I was too close to the pedals and steering wheel. Anyways, phoned Motability who were good as gold. They are organising a suitable hire car for me, which will be delivered to my home later today, and arranged for a taxi to take me home.
10 minutes after arriving home, a Volvo technician phoned me from the dealership and said that there was nothing wrong with the seat. I informed him of the passenger seat being fine and also the test drive vehicle, his repost was to say that test drive vehicles are different. I said that if test drive vehicles were built to a different standard, then that is mis-selling. He reckons that 3 different service people, two who Master Technicians said that there was nothing wrong with the seat. He also said that if I used the seat extension then the frame bars would stick in me, which in my mind is not fit for purpose. When I went to book the car in I talked to the sales person first, who agreed there was a problem and took me to the service desk to book the car in.
At the moment they said they will get a fourth person to look at it. I suffered this long for the car to go in for repair work as it was the first available date for a loan car. The seat fault makes the car painful for me to drive, and sometimes unbearable and I have had to cancel plans when my back, legs, sciatica is too painful to use the seat in that condition.
As an aside, considering the showroom and most of the outside was full of XC SUV models, I couldn’t fathom that they had none available. I said that I would rebook when they had one available, but was told not to bother as they don’t keep any for that purpose. All their courtesy vehicles bar the Yaris, were manual cars and were even lower than the Yaris.
I could really do without this and hope it can get sorted as it’s a brand new car, and the major selling point for me was the electric seats which allow me to change position easily if needed.
