December 26, 2022 at 8:16 pm #203513So apparently we’ve been pronouncing it wrong all these years and Hyundai must now be pronounce “Hun day” instead instead of “Hi hun dye”!?

Current car Hyundai Kona Ultimate EVDecember 27, 2022 at 11:01 am #203533I thought that was the American way – many US videos say it that way but UK vids tend to say it hi un dye – I shouldn’t suppose Hyundai care as long as people are buying.
Hope you are all well and that you had a good Christmas ?December 27, 2022 at 5:00 pm #203579Well they’ve spent a lot of money on a TV advertising campaign to educate us! (also showcasing the Ioniq)

GazTI have a kona ultimate ordered back in August. I see many saying there orders have now slipped to July 2023 doing more reading it says the ice versions will be available first quarter of 2023 and with that being said that will mean that if production hasn’t finished then it will very shortly for the current model.
I work in the car manufacturing industry and there is no way they will build the old and new models side by side as they will re-tool the production line for the new model.
My dealership has been useless with info so I can’t get any answer on projected delivery dates from them. Fingers crossed everyone who has an order will be upgraded to the new model.
December 28, 2022 at 9:19 am #203610
IanI also worked in car manufacturing and did actually witness 2 types of mini being built at the same time on the same line…..you are right tho, chaos! I watched the finishing line, body line would be different and maybe the mini line was just cosmetic changes.
My thoughts are that the line changes to new production and then all remaining orders will convert to new model as a line change is such a significant event in a car factory.
I do hope we get the new version even if our February delivery is delayed further.
December 28, 2022 at 9:50 am #203613My worry is that we may be offered the new model, but in a lower spec. than ordered because of the anticipated price increase for the bigger car. I understand that this happened when Kia updated the Niro recently – people that had ordered the old ‘4’ spec. were offered the new ‘2’ spec. instead (I think I read that on this forum)

GazTOnly time will tell and hopefully the dealers get more information in the new year. I really don’t mind paying a little more for the new model as the added space will make the car much more useable for us as a family.

If that the case Mb and dealerships should be informing customers now, rather than have them wait untill the middle of next year only to find out when the dealer contacts the customer a week or two before collection. At least those that don’t want a lower spec have an earlier oppurtunity to look else where. Yes JG it was on here about the Niro.
December 28, 2022 at 10:48 am #203627So here’s a first look of the new Kona in the flesh, obviously as its in Korea and its not due here until mid 2023 there may be a slight difference in spec. But it’s looking really good for people next year. https://youtu.be/Wo52jl2Vit8

December 28, 2022 at 10:04 pm #203661Sadly my expected Christmas Day build never went ahead. I emailed the dealership for any information about the colour change that has been implemented. Yep, my Jungle Green Kona EV will not come to fruition and I have also been assigned the Ecotronic Grey. Since I will not be getting the Jungle Green I don’t care what colour the car is finished in, pink with yellow polka dots is very acceptable at this moment. The Kona will still have the light interior (expecting that could also change before I get a secure build date, well anything is possible at this point!) and so long as the spec remains the same I think I can live with the colour change. My new expected date for the build completion is 16/04/23, just over a year from ordering, delivery to dealership 14/7/23. My dealership said that information and updates from Hyundai are coming through in drips and draps. They also said that the build dates are affecting all Hyundai models. I think there is a lot planned for the factories with the New Kona Model getting ready for it’s release. It is no surprise really that orders are being pushed back. My dealer always finishes on the note of “of course these dates are subject to change and you could get your Kona EV earlier if circumstances alter” That phrase is of no comfort as after 5 build changes I am no closer to taking delivery. Another spoonful of patience is now required, in fact I think I might need to gulp the whole bottle down in one!

BrentIf it makes you feel any better, that’s the date I’ve been given with written confirmation it’ll be the new model kona, and motability claiming this too.

Neville BishopI am hoping some kind person can give me some guidance. I have not yet used a public charging point, only charging at home and it fills me with dread. I have now got a Myhyundai RFID card but still do not know which chargers I can use or how to use them. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated as I have to make some long journeys in the new year and will need to charge somewhere.
December 29, 2022 at 9:33 pm #203788Hi Brent, I do like the images of the Next Gen Kona EV that are starting to emerge and it would be wonderful to take delivery of the New Model. My only concern would be the spec that will be assigned to our orders. Reading some info on TopElectricSUV (American) Hyundai have started production of the Next Gen Kona which will be then be launched for the Korean market January 2023, the Kona EV will follow a couple of months later. Production for the new model was started in the same plant as the out going model (our orders!) Easy to see why our build dates were pushed back. Several times during 2022 plant 3 production was suspended so that a production line for the New Gen could be installed. Again, easy to see why orders were delayed. If only customers were able to digest these circumstances as they occurred and then decide for themselves if they wished to go ahead with their orders or cancel. Hyundai do like to cloak everything in some sort of hush hush veil which only leads to very poor customer service. I feel I have a better understanding of my order and how I have come to have 5 build dates. Fingers crossed that production of the Next Gen goes smoothly and on time along with the launch. It will be a hard wait but I have made it this far.
December 30, 2022 at 11:19 am #203833The new model incorporates all the improvements many have been advocating. A little bigger, more modern interior, and good in appearance too.
December 30, 2022 at 11:51 am #203810
BrentI’d give hyundai a call and request an email confirming everything youve spoken about.
I called them, they confirmed I’ll be getting the ultimate of the updated model. That could probably change still, but I imagine they’d probably honor that since a lot of people would probably cancel and go MG4 at this point if they didn’t. I know I will if they change that, and if they don’t tell me until April I’ll take it to the motor ombudsman as I speced the ultimate for the extra saftey above everything else. I’m guessing they’ll probably only release 2 variants to the new kona though, instead of 4 like the niro. Probably ultimate and premium trim.
Also I think the ultimate has taken some hits with this new model. Going off of the image release, it looks like its sacrificed passenger electric seats

I’ve just been looking at the MyHyundai card and I am not sure what charging benefit it offers over a debit/credit card.
We were all in your position once so absolutely understand your anxiety. My advice would be to practice locally before you need to charge in anger.
There are different chargers and fittings, make sure you choose the one correct for your car.
There are rapid chargers and also chargers like yours at home, unless you are leaving the car overnight use rapid charger, identifiable with extra sockets (the one you don’t use at home underneath small socket).
Plug your car in present your card, press start. Swipe your card to finish charge. Make sure your car is set to charge immediately.
Best of luck!

Hi Neville, you’ll find some sound advice on the speakEV forum which has a whole section devoted to charging and you’ll be able to ask questions to a much wider EV audience.
You can find a map of chargers where you can use your MyHyundai card on their website hyundai.co.uk under the heading ‘Charge My Hyundai’
My advice would be;
1. Have a trial run at a public charge point close to where you live to get a feel for the process.
2. Get another RFID card from a provider such as Octopus Electric Universe Juice card as an alternative if your Hyundai card or Debit Card don’t work.
3. Plan your journey carefully using a route planner such as Zap-Map or ABRP (A Better Route Planner)
4. Always have a ‘plan B’ should your chosen charger be unavailable/broken, and ensure that you have enough range left to reach it.
5. Don’t be afraid to ask for advice if you do have any difficulty – most EV drivers will be only happy to help out.
Hope that helps.

desSame battery warning notification today again. It went into crawl mode and the power steering was not working for about a minute. Dealer opens after new year so need to get it around.
Also found some more info online and a few seem to be having this problem after the update. Mine updated recently too.

AnthonyOrder our Kona Premium in grey or black on 25th August 2022 with first delivery date of March 2023, since put back to May 2023.
Just had email confirmation that our car scheduled build is to start on 29th January 2023.
Colour confirmed as Galactic grey.
Model is Kona 64 kw ultimate.
Confirmed it will be the new 2023 upgrade model.
With expected delivery still showing as May 2023.
So fairly pleased that we will get the new slightly bigger upgraded model but no definite delivery date, will post when more information received.

NigelWow Anthony
Ordered 64kw premium in galactic grey the same time as you. End of August.
Expected May like yourself.
I will contact Hyundai tomorrow to see if I will be getting the updated model.
Fingers crossed

AnthonyHopefully Nigel, yours should be the same with newer upgraded model as well.
I was thinking of changing to the MG4 EV if they had not confirmed that I would get the new model, so will now stick with our first choice of Kona ultimate.
January 2, 2023 at 3:17 pm #204297
BrentId get a written confirmation that it’s the new model.
From everything I’ve been told and seen online, all new EV models will be made in April as that’s when they’re gonna be released. We should likely be the first to get them. Other than probably cash buyers, which is good.
