Being on the Motability scheme is a completely different ball game to buying a car.
You don’t have to worry about so many things :-trade in – insurance and service costs – resale value – etc etc
So for me – I just wait until the quarter before I need to choose – then start to do the research – the availability and prices on the scheme often don’t reflect the buyers market.
The Kona ultimate for under 1K when I ordered it ie this quarter last year for me represented excellent value for money and as long as it was big enough – boot etc – was a no brainier – in fact the cheapest and best value I have ever had on the scheme it being my 6th car on the scheme and that is without all the extra payments – good condition etc.
I do have an interest in car development – especially EV and I do often read and view the various reviews – but it will be at least 20 months before I start to look for my next car and unless there is something better at the right price I can see myself hanging in to this one until there is.
October 26, 2022 at 11:37 am #199126I think I’ve registered, I have been struggling to find how this is done. ?? so can you see that I have ?

Wise words. For me this time it was a toss up between the ID.3 with the large battery and 336 mile range and Kona. Luckily I didn’t like the VW interior otherwise I might have ordered it, seduced by the longer theoretical range, but if I had, I would have no idea when I might get it. VW are prioritising the lesser spec models. This is my 7th car and I think we all become a little more discerning, not so much about badges, but practicality and value for money. At present the only electric car which might appeal is the Renault, but the AP is more than I would wish to pay. Having said that, many people are now being priced out of private leases with borrowing costs increasing, together with rising car prices and meaner discounts, so perhaps going forward AP´s in the £000´s will be the norm. At £999, The Kona was an absolute steal.
October 26, 2022 at 11:55 am #199131If this really is you Ian – then you have changed to Webseli ie dropped l and I at the end – so yes it came straight thru so suggests registered – tho I am not sure why you wouldn’t keep your original name – so please confirm this really is you Ian!
There is a certain deja vu about this ?
October 26, 2022 at 12:32 pm #199132I did mention this before way back – but yes I went a similar research and logic route – I test drove an ID3 – not the 4 seater my Prius Phev at the time had 4 seats and we found too many occasions where 5 seats would have been useful – grandchildren etc.
I ordered the ID3 – rang Lookers to ask some further questions about car – even tho I rang on many occasions never got reply – I assume they knew car was about to come off scheme – hence I ordered Kona – like you I am so glad I did – Lookers did me a real favour – tho I will never deal with them again!

Ian WebsellYes it’s me, Ian. I’m not sure why but it would let me keep my name. Maybe it’s just me not doing it right. But it’s my surname with an I at the end.
I’ve been trying to register for months.
All sorted now. I hope ?October 26, 2022 at 1:21 pm #199135
NevilleI have also had an email about the payment of £350. My understanding is that it is part of the good condition bonus that is paid at the end of the lease, provided of course the car is in good condition but it is part only of the bonus and the balance of £250 will be paid when the lease ends. There is also £250 paid when you take delivery of a new car. Hope this helps.
October 26, 2022 at 1:28 pm #199139Luckily I didn’t like the Vnterior otherwise I might have ordered i
I loath the interior of the id3/enyak and all with a similar approach. God help us if this is the times to come. The other day I was reading an in depth review of the MG4 EV, it too has a similar approch ID3 and whil’st it cant quite match it on miles, its a sensible alternative to the ID3 at a far cheaper price point. I also follow alot of chinese cars such as Saic that have partnered with the likes of VW and Volvo, along with other made in China manufacturers who make highly rated cars that probably won’t be seen here, but thats going off topic.
But the point for me is if they are making a EV from the ground up why oh why do they have to put those dreadful interiors in.
October 26, 2022 at 1:49 pm #199141Agreed kezo – the Kona is a nice mix of physical buttons and touch screen – many that are duplicated – so you have a choice – when I am driving I don’t mind looking at a touch screen but I definitely don’t won’t my concentration on the road broken by hopeful stabbing finger motions in the hope I might get lucky – when you think of the laws on the non use of hand held phone – which I agree with – the touch screen for everything that some manufactures are going with – in my view are a huge distraction and arguably worse than a phone that you could hold up to continue to look where you are going??
October 26, 2022 at 3:18 pm #199145Without being unkind to anyone who has an ID.3, and indeed ID.4, its one of the worst interiors I have seen, lots of cheap plastic, and basically cost cutting measures. Hyundai are not renown for their interior designs, but the Kona was, IMO, way ahead of VW, and proper hand controls for climate. The other day I had to turn the front windscreen fan on, took half a second. Imagine on a Tesla/VW and others, scrolling through menu´s and sub menu´s, then repeat the process to turn it off. Distracting. There seemed to be an obsession to change everything, just for the sake of it.

Tou can’t track it yorself as such. You can/use to neable to email, send a private message on social media to Hyundai UK quoting your 1011 number. Last I heard Dealer systems had been bought inline with what you would get directly from Hyundai UK, but there is no harm in trying
October 26, 2022 at 6:01 pm #199158I agree @fwippers each person has there own likes/dislikes and I don’t think we are being unkind.
The MG4 I talked about has a similar interior to the ID’s but also has buttons you can press rather than going through the menu system. I think it was @Tillyman who mention the non existant button situation.
Take care all and continue to enjoy your cars 🙂
October 26, 2022 at 6:44 pm #199160Loving the car so far. Not getting the type of mileage you guys have been getting but I’m just driving normally and have some distance journeys. Guess it will improve with more round town driving.
On a tracking note, when we picked the car up the dealer said Hyundai are developing an app so you can track your order all the way through in the style of tesla
October 26, 2022 at 8:50 pm #199185I continue emailed Hyundai on Thursday last week, received reply on Monday saying that they had passed on the query and would update me. Still waiting.
October 27, 2022 at 4:36 pm #199256Just signed up for Electric Universe – which seems to be affiliated to Octopus Energy.
There is also an iOS app to down load – the filters allowing you to screen out non relevant charging points seem quite good – they have yet to link it to a route planner but that is soon to come.
I decided to give it a go
1 because Octopus power is becoming a large power provider – has recently taken over an energy firm that went bust and also had shown a keen interest in EV.
2 It costs nothing to sign up and you would expect a subsidiary of Octopus to be as conscious of security as any.It is early days and tho they appear to have big plans for Electric Universe it is still early days.
I will let you know my thoughts as the weeks go by – has anyone else shown an interest in this.
October 28, 2022 at 12:53 pm #199316Screen shot from my Electric Universe app that I downloaded yesterday – this range is not uncommon as a given real range on many sites and reviews – yet totally pessimistic when compared to our shared experiences on this forum
October 28, 2022 at 4:11 pm #199329Today Bluelink shows I have used 67kWh to travel just 5 miles!
October 28, 2022 at 4:17 pm #199331Lol, were you towing a 42 tonner?

October 28, 2022 at 4:27 pm #199334Im going with Halloween gremlins, or Elon Musk has infiltrated it hoping I´ll buy a Tesla!

Bear in mind a range of 350 miles is probably 355-360 in reality as there are always a few extra miles in reserve. I wouldn’t want to try it though!
October 28, 2022 at 9:10 pm #199346Following on my “Wheel of Fortune” delivery query to Hyundai. Dealer has said Feb 23rd next year, contacted Hyundai last week for their guesstimate and received this reply today.
Hi
This order is estimated to complete production on 17.01.2023 and is estimated to dock at Tilbury on 21.03.2023. Please then allow 2 weeks for prep at Tilbury.
I’m looking at April now, from an August 6th order at dealership.
