Was looking at one myself although would love them to bring the Sportline 2.0d to the scheme.
October 25, 2024 at 10:54 am #292304Thanks for all the info on the practicalities and costs of PHEVs. Sadly, only the diesel and PHEV Kodiaq are currently available on the scheme. If the eTSI was on, I would switch my order to one. Great car, imho.
interesting comments and in the bigger picture outside of the scheme, all that extra dead weight consisting of highly polluting mining and transport of cobalt, lithium, copper etc plus neodymium for the motor, inverters etc is hardly eco friendly. BIK bribery to achieve what, exactly?

Scaremongering and people are falling for it
October 25, 2024 at 11:55 am #292317I think people buy electric cars because we are forced to (or will be forced to very soon), until hybrid replaces this technology in 5-10 years time, I doubt (m)any people on Motability are buying electric/PHEV cars to save the planet, it’s all about their needs and what they can afford…

I am no expert on the eco argument, so don’t really sit on one side or the other of that debate, but there is no doubt that the vast majority of BEV and PHEV drivers are company car drivers and their motivation has been primarily because these cars attract substantially lower company car tax rates, rather than a desire to save the planet! Years ago, those of us who had company cars all switched to diesels for the same tax reasons. Some years later it was discovered that they were more environmentally damaging than had been thought, so that all reversed!
As Motability customers we are also (to a lesser degree) being incentivised to move to BEVs and PHEVs as, whilst APs are quite high, we don’t face the same issues that private buyers do when considering these cars. Manufacturers are also throwing big discounts at lease operators to help meet their EV targets.
I’ve said it before but the next few years will be very interesting. Private buyers (who are the majority of car buyers) are still buying petrol and diesel cars in far greater numbers than they are EVs. There are countless reasons for private buyers shunning EVs, such as higher upfront costs, high insurance costs due to concerns over repair costs, concerns over residual values, range limitations and, of course, the lack of a home charging option for many millions. The hikes in manufacturer targets over the next few years are way ahead of the current (and projected) trajectory in EV take up. It’s all very well governments imposing targets and punitive fines on manufacturers, but if the consumer isn’t convinced they simply won’t switch. These consumers are also voters, so watch this space. There will come a time when common sense has to prevail.

God comment.
Motability are definately pushing member, especially to electric cars. Not only can be seen by the discrepancy of AP’s but, also the language Motability adopt, which doesn’t reflect the real world scenario.
I’ll go as far as saying, not only is it all about what they can afford but, also the low running costs, that are at the forefront minds before anything to do with saving the planet.

That argument can be applied to BEV’s in a similar manor, as charging the useable and not the gross battery capacity from 20-80%, means, the majority of time, you are carrying 30-40% dead weight.
October 25, 2024 at 5:41 pm #292340I’m not against EVs for Motability if they suit the individuals requirements. Most of the financial negatives are absorbed by the scheme. Tail pipe emission mitigation priceless to kids at the school gates. Like Glos guy I went for diesel – a crv in 2005 when Gordon the great encouraged us, then raised diesel duty! Did 80000 fault free miles in it, but although better than most, emitted carcinogenic and other toxins
Statistics from Volvo and Mitsubishi from Germany reflect the UK. 40-45% of business lease returns of phevs reveal that the charging cable has never been used. BIK madness.

I did Order a Hyundai in May 2nd but the service from Hyundia was very very poor. In fact I will never order another Hyundai.
So I was very lucky with my Skoda. All I can say is when you do get it you will find the car amazing…

October 29, 2024 at 6:10 am #292510last week when we ordered ours from stock there were about 40 Kodiaqs on the system showing as being at Exeter Port, various colours and spec (from SE to Sportline) but most with just a few options… We like our toys and would have specced it a lot better if it was a factory order but had to compromise as 3-4 months as opposed to 1-2 weeks was crucial for us!
We now depend on how quickly the adaptation company can fit it in for our transfer plate before we take delivery in a couple of weeks and can’t wait…
Good luck with it!
October 29, 2024 at 6:55 am #292511@monty Re Hyundai, my advice would be don’t be put off a brand purely because of one bad dealership experience. Unfortunately bad sales persons or dealerships exist in every brand. I have dealt with our local Hyundai dealership three times (two private and one Motability car) and service has been exemplary every time.
For the Motability sale they advised me to hold off for the facelift model (that I didn’t know was coming), provided 3 different cars for me to test over 48 hours, secured the exact model in the exterior and interior colour combination that we wanted immediately (even though some customers elsewhere, according to a Tucson forum had been told that they weren’t available), updated me regularly until delivery, liased with the adaptations company on my behalf and when we picked up the car not only had they fully charged it (PHEV) but they had brimmed the tank with petrol.
I know from the private purchases that after sales service is equally good. They paid for all four alloys to be refurbished on my daughters car even when it was out of warranty and the guy who dealt with our Motability car said that he lives in our village and when it needs servicing he will pick it up and return it so that we don’t even need to leave the house!
By contrast, I’ve had poor service from 3 different Volkswagen dealerships but I don’t doubt that there are good ones out there.

October 29, 2024 at 6:55 am #292512BigDan I did email them first and they just said it be a factory order. So I would recommend going in directly. As Christos has said if you don’t mind paying for a few extras you might get lucky.
I would also say go through the bigger dealerships those that have many Skodas dealerships in their group, they can pull from each other’s stock.
But mine came from the port…
October 29, 2024 at 8:37 am #292519Yeah I did notice plenty with extras on the stock finder . I’m limited by my grant unfortunately after inclusion of Se L upgrade I’m limited to another 550 so not really any other options on extras 😅
Also I’m not sure what port would be shipped my way I’m literally round the corner from group 1 skoda in essex/southend

Bro The Dartford one is a large group.
That’s is not that far from you.
I had to pay for the wheels up grade. Personally I don’t even like them but they were a cheap extra at £115 , the paint would of been a extra too but we get the metallic free of charge on MB.
So just ask to see the list and what extra’s they have and go from there.
The Guy I dealt with is Deliz. He might be off on Maternity. Or just back at work now..
Another nice guy there is James.
I be happy to enquire for you if you like me too. I would need your model your looking for Se Or Sel and what fuel model you want..

October 29, 2024 at 9:14 am #292523I originally wanted the diesel too in a SEL.
But the PHEV was in the colour I wanted.
But the fuel to MPG is really good on all models. If you can have the Phev with wall charger you get great milage.

yeah that’s the problem I want the phev I’m not allowed the phev 😅 grant is specifically for 7 seater so I can only get deisel if they are quick about it and not much more maybe i could get the sportline assuming i get on with the seats 😅, seems to be alot of 4×4 sitting around dealerships 😂
October 29, 2024 at 9:24 am #292525@monty I understand different types of drivers, will have differing opinions but, how are you finding the Kodiaq’s power/torque, with an empty battery and mpg?
October 29, 2024 at 10:11 am #292526Looking on my Skoda app I only had one battery charge.
That charge run out in less than 48 hours. But most of my driving so far been stuck in heavy traffic as I live around The Queen Elizabeth bridge between Essex and Kent.
My average fuel is sitting 57.1 mpg my average speed is only 17 miles so you can tell how bad the road condition are.
Under the circumstances I think that is excellent. Unfortunately I have not had the opportunity to take it on a run yet.
My wife and I do not drive fast but the car can accelerate fast enough when needed but I am unsure what you are used too, so it’s hard to judge. I do not feel I need the extra power of the electric motor although it would be very welcoming if I was able to have a home charger.
Currently waiting on a couple of different cards to use my electric away from the home. BP Pulse and Octopus Energy.
BigDan I asked my dealer they only have one Kodiaq 7 seater Diesel and it’s full of extras sitting at the docks.
They have two that are due to be shipped from factory but they said they will not be available for two months roughly.
They said most of the 30 showing on the system around 2 weeks ago are now sold..
Sorry Bud.
October 29, 2024 at 10:29 am #292527@monty As with all PHEVs, if you’ve charged the car (even just once as in your case) the mpg as stated in the car will be completely inaccurate, as it takes no account of miles that you’ve driven on the charge, which you paid for but the fuel computer assumes was free! It’s an annoying aspect with PHEVs as you have to work out accurate mpg equivalent manually and it’s a lot lower than the computer says!
If you are going to drive it on petrol only from now on, you,d be wise to reset the fuel computer now (assuming that you’ve used up all the electric miles that you paid for). From that point on, your mpg readings will be accurate, as any miles that the car drives on electric will have been ‘paid for’ by the petrol engine.
