I know for some people it not just a choice and some need a certain type vehicle as transport, ie hoists to be fitted, ramps etc, we’re not at that stage yet so opens up I guess more choice.
However this choice for me is such a mine field.
Lots of different choice that lazily I’ve not kept up todate with, been to see a few cars available but tbh don’t like for what ever reason..
Think I’ll just go Volvo again, must be just age and lifestyle that’s brought me to such ignorance..
In reality I’d extend again and save the cost, even after 5 yrs..
Is it just me who feels such a dinosaur..😊😆

It’s a big car for 150 horses!
Give Sinclars Gorseinon a ring and ask for extended test drive in the plug in. There’s also Seat and VW on site. Worth a short trip?
August 21, 2025 at 8:01 pm #311683Hi ajn,
agree that the wheels do not suit that colour, but look ok on my wife’s smoke silver SEL – collecting Saturday and bidding farewell to the Touran and MB. Am grateful to mb for eight years trouble free motoring, all with the 1.5 tsi dsg and have no qualms about going for another. I have never felt short changed with sport mode boosting response when needed. Admittedly, I don’t hoon about as in earlier days with golf gti and BMWs and have never filled all seven seats on the Touran or Allspace. No more VWs for us, as have lost the plot with UI and in particular, HVAC. Glad you enjoyed the twisties, some common sense from subsidiary, Skoda. Good luck.
August 23, 2025 at 2:05 pm #311706Thanks @kezo, had some time away last week, short break.
@clappedout the Skoda really is a great choice, even I wouldn’t complain about the space provided as there’s lots, everywhere..The man we test drove with last week said if the car were to be later than expected after ordering,he can inform motability on a week to week basis with updates to prolong the insurance until new car is delivered, and we wouldn’t be without transport..
tbh I was completely unaware of that, is this even a 5 yr extension..
August 24, 2025 at 10:36 am #311731Collected yesterday and having negotiated the traffic around the hogs back, took it for a run down the A31 and back. Limo like quiet at 70, decouples drive to coast down hills, same as VW, MHEV assisted with start stop etc in traffic and performs in an unobtrusive, smooth manner. Mrs also delighted and has gone for a drive today, unencumbered with concerns that it not for my benefit. All in all, a cut above Vw and love the electric leather seats, whether faux or not. Getting to grips with the infotainment might take a while, but already a big improvement over Vw. Had no remorse over handing the Touran back, the Allspace was much better with its previous gen hvac etc.
Thanks to all who have provided invaluable information on multiple issues over the last eight years and all the best for the future.
August 24, 2025 at 11:22 am #311735Great stuff @clappedout if possible try get some pics to post, no big deal if to busy though.. 👍👍

August 26, 2025 at 5:40 am #311792My wife’s first challenge of parking at a supermarket went well.
August 26, 2025 at 11:10 am #311797Thanks for taking the time to get a pic up @clappedout
Also it’s just what I wanted to see, those wheels do look much better with your colour choice, Well done to your Wife on the parking too…
Went to bmw yesterday, great staff, quite relaxed with the amount of time with the test drive…

It was at this point, the Wife said, we’re here to look at cars 👀🤣🤣August 27, 2025 at 9:56 am #311835Hi ajn,
agree. In my youth, that bike would have grabbed my full attention. A school mate has maintained his passion for bikes and lives on the Isle of Man, where you can still enjoy their potential. Hope the BMW test was helpful.
Like your test Kodiaq, the dealer had a race blue Sportline in the showroom. The black wheels really suited it. Good luck with your selection
August 28, 2025 at 7:08 am #311861Morning @clappedout, I think your friend is a very lucky chap.
We only got to drive the x1, x2 wasn’t available, shame really as that was the real interest, as we booked both.
X1 seems like a great car, Wife said it’s nice to drive, loved the layout inside, however she can easily understand it’s compact for me.
Again she’s still loving the Skoda, and tbh it’s a much better car for us, AP is off putting..

@ajn We had the previous generation X1 and it’s bigger inside than it appears. We had no trouble with 4 adults plus a wheelchair in the boot (just folded in half). If you think that the X1 is too compact for you then don’t waste your time looking at the X2. Both the rear access and the boot are compromised versus the X1. I’m a great fan of BMWs, but their coupe SUVs are all style over substance.
August 28, 2025 at 9:58 am #311866Morning @Glos Guy, we both drove the x1, must say no pressure on getting back either, which was nice, professional staff, with a great sense of humour..
The x1 really is a nice car, could I drive it for years, doubt it, suited the Wife perfect, strangely though the x2 did seem to have more space while sat inside…
out of the two
I’d go x2, with added rear privacy glass…

The front compartment of the X2 is identical to the X1, no bigger. The rear compartment and boot are both smaller in the X2. I’m 6ft 2 and could barely get into the back of the X2. I had to really crick my neck to get in. There’s no doubt that the X2 is the better looking car (I like the rear styling of the current BMW Coupes and SUV Coupes) but in exchange for better looks you get a car that is less practical than the ‘full’ SUV equivalent. I guess if there’s never more than two of you in the car and you don’t have to worry about a wheelchair or other large aids, then the X2 won’t cause any issues. I’d definitely check one out thoroughly though rather than let the styling alone convince you that it would be suitable 😉
August 28, 2025 at 11:50 am #311875I’m shocked the new X1 is too compact for you, as the X1 is bigger than the XC40, which shows in greater headroom and legroom compared to the XC40. I don’t disagree the Kodiaq will swallow both of these, as it’s a much bigger car being in the next group (d), but makes me wonder, how you coped with the Volvo all these years😂
Which would I choose is hard, because both are big cars, with one much bigger than t’other for 1.5 mild hybrid engines, but the Kodiaq at least gets a 4cyl, plus I’m still pissed off with BMW for ditching the idrive controller below 3 models. Volvo wouldn’t even be on my list and the X2 is cramped😂
August 28, 2025 at 3:07 pm #311886Volvo being smaller wow, who would’ve thought it @kezo, maybe it’s the m type seat feeling cramped as it’s very snug fitting, or the dark interior and thicker feeling steering wheel making it feel tighter than the Volvo, also the middle arm rest thing, not sure if it’s static, as I couldn’t lift it up out of my way..
Isn’t amazing how we all differ in tastes and decisions..
I guess 5 years driving one car, anything else will feel strange, even the extra space of the Skoda..
August 28, 2025 at 3:14 pm #311887Oh yeah forgot to mention no electric driver seat in the BM so getting in after Mrs aj driving position well let’s just say wasn’t easy, Volvo got the memory 1-2 option, so yeah that might have led to the smaller feeling sensation, besides that it’s just my opinion after driving….
I have been known to be wrong many a time 🤣…

Leg space in the Skoda, seat back and loweredAugust 28, 2025 at 3:25 pm #311891Volvo being smaller wow, who would’ve thought it @kezo, maybe it’s the m type seat feeling cramped as it’s very snug fitting, or the dark interior and thicker feeling steering wheel making it feel tighter than the Volvo, also the middle arm rest thing, not sure if it’s static, as I couldn’t lift it up out of my way.. As @kezo says, the X1 is definitely a more spacious car than the XC40, especially the boot. The X2 will feel smaller than the XC40 though. BMW M Sport models have a black headlining, which is what makes the car interior feel smaller than it is. Unfortunately there’s no option to delete it for a lighter one. I was wary of the BMW sport seats, being of ‘generous build’, but I’m glad I went for them as the standard seats lack under thigh support. The thicker steering wheels are lovely to drive with, and a BMW is a much more engaging drivers car than the Volvo. Both @kezo and myself are of the same view that the current X1 / X2 aren’t as good as the previous generation models, but even though interior quality has dropped a bit, it will still be the closest in quality to your Volvo.
August 28, 2025 at 4:06 pm #311892
kezo Im quite a broad built chap, so maybe the little bit extra on these stats might be giving me the feeling tighter, it’s only minimal but could be the point leading me to feel as if the x1 is smaller, head hight seat down is fine is more width to the door and leg room for me…Bm on the right Volvo left

August 28, 2025 at 4:43 pm #311896I know what you mean. Being somewhat larger than chunky, I find what I consider comfortable differs greatly from someone with an ideal BMI. I’ve excluded seats because the bolsters dig in, either one leg or both or the sides of the back are in my ribs.

September 19, 2025 at 1:27 pm #312812Just saw one of these while out and about..
Any one got one on here, or any convincing comments not to bother please, seemed to look rather large, looks nice..
September 19, 2025 at 2:59 pm #312823@DougieB has the previous gen petrol, neighour at bottom of cul de sac as just had the latest version in PHEV form, after trading in his Sportage and loves it.
September 19, 2025 at 7:44 pm #312837Kezo this looks great, however I always use the rear centre section (arm rest) boot to seats for fishing rods no biggy, as seats can drop, must say I might check it out…
Visually seemed to larger than the xc40 everywhere..
Looking on youtbe needs a wire from phone to connect, that’s crap tbh..
Love the style of this car..👍
September 19, 2025 at 8:04 pm #312838My mum’s friend had the previous generation on the scheme and will get the new version once adapted.
If wired CarPlay bothers you there are boxes you can buy that do the job for you. They’re a slight delay but are otherwise a wireless connection. I bought one for the ZS hoping the next car was wireless and dipped out with the Hi5, so it’s been running for 5 years now and is just beginning to lose connection from being frequently turned on/off thanks to very short trips. For less than £30 from Amazon, it’s not a perfect solution but it’s perfectly adequate. There are more expensive options that include video options but they’re £100+
