Sy-Fi channel (or is it Horror channel) are running original Star Treks. Can’t resist. Time warp back to the 60s, if my Dilithium Crystals hold up! ?
March 19, 2022 at 5:30 pm #180514Now, while it’s not really Sci-Fi, Horror channel is re-running The Prisoner, the 1967 version with McGoohan. Having watched when first broadcast, had to take another look. Stands the test of time quite well. Very well made for its day and still entertaining.

Be seeing you…

The series is considered to have been a dominant creative influence on TV and film standards and culture and, indeed, on popular culture in general.
The title sequence is widely held to be one of the best ever made – contemporary reviewers said it was more feature film than telly.
The “voice” of the Village, the female announcer who greets everyone through the speakers and announces over the tannoy was Fenella Fielding.
The big white floaty blob which bounces on people was “played” by a meteorological balloon and was generally called “Rover”
The car in the titles is a Lotus 7 series 2. It is an early alloy skinned example which had as standard a Ford 1172cc side-valve engine producing some 40bhp. Light weight meant that it could nevertheless get to 60mph in 7 secs or less.
March 20, 2022 at 8:51 am #180530I remember watch this as a kid, I caught my interest then as it was so different to anything on TV at that time.

Thought the Danger Man series out of which The Prisoner sprang was also good. Never see that repeated though. Be interested to see if it stands the test of time as well as The Prisoner

ReneFor the netflixers out there.. The Adam Project was a lot of fun, with some good actors (Ryan Reynolds, Mark Ruffalo) who actually seemed to be awake at the set, with good performances.
I enjoyed it quite a bit.
March 20, 2022 at 11:05 am #180540@Tharg yeah also watched Man in a suitcase. Interestingly McGoohan took most of the M in a Suitcase film crew with him to the Prisoner.
@Rene Yeah The Adam project was a good watch on N flicks. I really enjoyed that.Production on the film first began in 2012 with Tom Cruise attached to star. The film then fell into development hell until Netflix acquired the distribution rights. Filming commenced in November 2020 and wrapped in March 2021. The film was released on Netflix on March 11, 2022, and received mixed reviews from critics.

ReneYeah, turned out pretty well for going through Devhell. As a gamer, devhell usually means death for the project, or the result is so bad it’s not worth considering.
This one was good. Although, i am kind of a Ryan Reynolds fanboy anyway i guess.

BrydoI remember being disappointed by the final episode, can’t remember if it was the actual conclusion or just by it coming to an end.
The Adam Project was ok, same old Ryan Reynolds I fear. Thought he was great in his early films but a bit one dimensional now. Was still a worthy watch.
Anyone looking to watch “woke” sci-fi needs to watch “Star Trek Discovery” every gender you can think of are represented. Tries too hard to deal with present day problems centuries in the future.
In saying that I still like it.March 20, 2022 at 4:35 pm #180563Know exactly what you mean, Brydo. Felt much the same. The last part left too many things unresolved. Have read somewhere that there was an alternative ending, unmade. In this we learn that the reason Number Six resigned was because he himself had suggested that a place like The Village should be set up. It was intended as a rest home for retired/resigned agents who needed help but he’s discovered that they have set up a Bad version which is the one he goes to. The new ending had him getting the place disbanded, blown-up, whatever. Kick in the tail was that he himself is Number One. Hmmm…
Love all the vehicles in the series. It’s hard not to like the Mokes and other eccentricities like the DC4 Carvair car transporter aircraft used in Episode 2. These bonkers planes were developed by and for Freddie Laker. Amazingly one is still airworthy in the USA. Of the 21 airframes, eight were lost in catastrophic accidents. Not a good record.
April 3, 2022 at 3:42 pm #181711FARSCAPE RE-RUNS Yup, the Horror channel has finished The Prisoner and is now doing the whole Farscape series starting with the first episode. Seen ’em all twice but just can’t resist another go. Starts tomorrow, Monday 4 Apr at 6pm. For anyone who hasn’t seen it, I reckon it is the best sci-fi series ever. Mad, intriguing, gripping, and often hilarious. Big ideas with even bigger characters. Great that it’ll include the early episodes – those with the delightful, blue-toned, humanoid-plant lady Zhaan.

It’s Ryan Reynolds. That’s who he is now.
But his “earlier films”? Like Green Lantern?
Rewatched “Annihilation” recently, still holds up. A bit weird and inconsistent at times, but overall a good flick.
