TheoboyCan’t see it being much different if i’m honest i hope i’m wrong and prices come down and more to choose from but with the new car shortages still falling behind due to covid it’s likely to stay the same until the middle of 2023
December 22, 2022 at 11:38 am #203249This is a thread which normally provides anticipation, a lot of discussion and optimism, however the reality is when the next Q arrives, there is very little difference. I am sure there will be a surprise or two, however, I think in reality its business as usual.

AnonymousI don’t think the new quarter prices are such a big thing as they used to be as often car’s change prices during the quarters now or are removed and then re-appear at usually a higher price.
I used to be able to order my car in Q1 and pretty much always the cars I was looking at went up in price from Q4.
My last car was a civic and that went up £600 in the two quarter’s before i could order it in jan and before it left the scheme, it had risen and risen and it would of been to high for me to afford one at those ap’s.
Sometimes though when a new model of car comes on the scheme it’s often then rises, which i noticed with the 2.0l corolla and was way to much in ap, by the time i could order a car.

MaccaWell, simply because it was suggested by Nissan’s motability controller himself, we may see the Qashqai Tekna e-power in Q1.
I’m sure that will be greatfully received by some folks.
December 22, 2022 at 1:55 pm #203268I doubt there will be any significant ap reduction given the fact that they’re increasing the incentive payment from £250 to £750.
Hope I’m wrong though

But that increase will coincide with Q2 so might be worth anyone who’s thinking of ordering in Q1 to delay until Q2 but of course that runs the risk of even greater AP’s or the car disappearing altogether.
This ordering a Motability car larky these days has become a bit of a gambling game.
December 22, 2022 at 3:44 pm #203274I’d like to see an increase in the availability of PHEV’s but I doubt it. I’m still awaiting a build date for an e-C4 but if a better (affordable) choice of PHEV became available then I might be tempted to cancel and change tack.

I’m here for this to be honest ?

On paper, that would be a good addition. I think the new Qashqai is a lovely looking car as well and comes in some great colours. However, the real world economy doesn’t seem great. Somebody test drove one the other day and the mpg they achieved was a lot worse than we get in our conventional 2.0i petrol BMW X1.

I was seriously thinking of getting a PHEV next time, but am not so sure now. With the sky high AP’s for PHEV’s and rocketing electricity prices, I’m not sure that they would be as viable financially now. If the equivalent standard petrol model is way cheaper AP wise, has far less weight to lug around and doesn’t ever require plugging in, it might be a far more attractive option for us. I had considered that many of our short journeys could have been done in electric mode, but in that mode your 250 bhp PHEV is actually a very heavy 80 bhp car. Better to go full EV if that’s the aim.

We have a Kona electric and can charge at cheap evening rates and the AP was really competitive. Looking at PHEV prices, personally I would not bother, especially as free chargers will start to disappear quickly. I charge at 7.5p, but over the weekend at a service station it was 75p! That’s the equivalent of £1.30 a litre of petrol.

Then there’s the outlandish mpg manufacturers quote for PHEV, especially if like me regulary do 350 mile journeys. If your pottering around town or going to the supermarket and you can do so in EV mode you might see those figures, but, you may as well jump straight to EV if thats all your using it for providing you can have an home charger fitted.
December 23, 2022 at 11:51 am #203303The WEY Coffee 01 is likely coming to the UK and I would like to see it on the scheme, with an under 2k AP, Wishful thinking I know 🙂
Wey Coffee 01 spearheads Chinese brand’s UK launch
Luxury SUV will offer 93 miles of pure EV range with a total power output of 469bhpThe Coffee 01 will begin its life in the German market and be priced from the equivalent of £48,214. Its 40kWh battery offers an electric range of 93 miles and Wey claims a total system output of 469bhp, making the Coffee 01 more powerful than the Volkswagen Touareg R PHEV. A 0-62mph time of five seconds and 146mph top speed is quoted.

December 23, 2022 at 12:07 pm #203304Two things that you can guarantee about cars built in China. Build quality will be atrocious and crash safety will also be dubious! ?

A 40kWh battery on a car that powerful is nuts. There’s no need for all that power but there’s a lot of need for more capacity. I doubt they’ll be particularly successful at that price, considering all their competition will go further, even if slightly less abruptly.

I not aware of any other PHEV that will theoretically do any where near 93 miles in EV mode. Coming from a racing family I like power, but, with all the extra weight (power to weight ratio) is not all that great as @Glos Guy pointed out. earlier.

You could imagine going down the motorway or around country lanes all the bolts come undone ?
I expect it to have to pass E-NCAP to some degee nd the MG4 has a star NCAP rating.
However I like the overall looks of it 🙂

Bit of unconscious bias kicking in there……Lots of good product being produced in China particularly cars ………

I did miss the PHEV bit, I must admit and 40kWh on a PHEV then becomes excessive weight. Either, do it right and lose the engine altogether or do it right and reduce battery capacity and, thus, excess weight. That has to be a monster carrying two full power systems.

December 23, 2022 at 3:34 pm #203324Q1 predictions, just to drag it back on topic…
APs still increasing, waiting times being long. I’d like to see both the cheaper Fisker (not Q1) and BYD coming on scheme. I’d love to see a couple more EVs on scheme with batteries beyond 60kWh but even then you’ll be ordering in January to pick up 18 months later.

Think the electric revolution is rightly delayed, we have another combustion car to go methinks!
Sadly*

I currently drive a ZS EV and the one pedal driving is amazing to help with issues aro0und twisting legs to switch between pedals. The issue is that the current offering are mostly 50kWh batteries, good for barely 100 miles in the cold. I’d much rather have something nearer 200 in cold and 250-300 in summer without paying out ten grand for the Ariya, as nice a car as that is.
