Hi I am getting my first car tomorrow and haven’t dealt with fuel before. The car I’m getting is a 1.5L petrol Ssangyong korando.

My question is about what type of petrol to use, E10 is constantly in newspaper articles about poor performance and problems it causes vehicles, but I know environmentally it’s supposed to be the best, so Should I be looking to top up with E10 or a different petrol.
      Any advice is appreciated please

Just use standard petrol. Your car being brand new is designed to be run on this from the factory. Enjoy your new car.

Yes, your car is compatible with E10. In terms of impact on performance or fuel economy, I have found it to be negligible and not worth paying extra for premium unleaded. That’s up to you though, with neither option causing any harm to your car.

I have noticed since it the weather has started to turn and mentioned on a Hyundai forum, when pulling away from a standstill at a junction etc, it feels as if its going to die on me. Yet my parents have never had a problem, nor have I when driving their car. I did fill up with E5 thats now classed as premium fuel as an expeiment and the problem wasn’t noticeable. I also found using ever so slightly more revs has done the trick and will continue to do this given the price of premium fuels.

As @Carmad stated you car is designed to run on E10 so enjoy it. Oh don’t believe everything you hear in the news especially scaremongering articals in the like of the daily express!

You will not have an issue mate. The DE are publishing this crap every other day by their  fiction scientists and if it was as bad as they make out in their articles you would here it on proper news channels etc.

We have noticed the slight increase in fuel consumption since using E10 compared to E5 when towing down from 32 mpg to 28 mpg, otherwise in everyday use no difference.

Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally I get confused and often say the wrong thing.

Before E10, we had E5 at 95 ron or 97/99 ron(super-unleaded) The 95 ron E5 has been removed from market in the uk, so essentially you can put in super-unleaded now or E10 which is my main issue, we should have the choice of 3 grade’s not just the two.

Most standard cars do not need higher octane 97/99 fuel and you will see no real difference running those cars on it than on the 95 ron. Some cars like a golf R will only run right on the 97 and above.

You will see a reduction in mpg over the E5 as it has more ethanol than before and thus less actual fuel but with the added cost of E5 being at least 5p to 8p per litre more than e10 and some supermarkets not even selling 95 ron, really imo it makes very little difference in terms of money.

Either way it’s costing more now than it did before to do the same mileage you could do on the e5 95 ron that’s no longer available.

A win win for the government and a lose lose for many people.

Now we are going into the colder weather the EV range on our Outlander PHEV will decrease, will have to starting using more E10 petrol. Being a PHEV which we regularly charge up home making it very difficult to measure the effect of E10 fuel. When towing the majority of time, we are running on petrol making it much easier to measure the effect.

I lasted fuelled up the middle of September returning from a holiday towing our caravan, I will probably fuel up in December not sure to whether I will refuel with E10 or super unleaded E5.

Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally I get confused and often say the wrong thing.
