HarryAre salesman coming out with you or does covid mean you take the cars out yourself?
October 19, 2020 at 5:30 pm #127446
Mike11Went out on my own salesman cannot Come in car with COVID
October 19, 2020 at 7:12 pm #127463Imo it’s a big mistake the way they gone with the touch screen and i can deffo understand why alot of lets say people who don’t talk to there phones to open an app say, would find it a headache, Using the exact wording for me, with the brain damage i have, is not so easy but pressing a button is.. So i decided it’s not for me either.. hardly used it on my honda and was one reason i got the civic as well as they put some buttons back. Especially for the climate control. After having a c4 grand picasso before the golf that was a joke in the morning waiting for the screen to boot to change the heat settings only for it to error and one needed the engine restarted to reset it..
Same with the id3 and car wow did a test and the sat nav, using voice was a joke. maybe it was the accent he has but all the same.. he said use your phone and goggle maps it works good.
Shame really I dunno if the ch-r will be any different to the yaris as it’s probally the 1.8l you looking at..
if it’s also a bust what ya plans that’s the question..
October 19, 2020 at 7:16 pm #127464
Mike11Rox I’ve still got a headache hours later ! If chr too noisy I’m extending lease a year my golf will be serviced and not in feb
October 19, 2020 at 7:19 pm #127465
Mike11It’s a very big mistake my old golf is so easy with conventional dials for heating etc I told VW salesman this he understood totally
October 19, 2020 at 7:19 pm #127466
Mike11Seat Leon FR the same so won’t be test driving that
October 19, 2020 at 7:28 pm #127467Mike – didn’t you have a test drive booked in the new Golf today?
If so – any thoughts?
I was thinking of booking a test drive in one a couple of weeks from now. I’ve been moaning about the touch screens ever since VW unveiled it… but I keep getting told that’s the way cars are going!
October 19, 2020 at 7:30 pm #127468
Mike11Solent yes had hour and half test drive in golf today wouldn’t have one because of touch screen
October 19, 2020 at 7:40 pm #127473When I got the Tiguan it took a good few weeks to get familiar with the digital cockpit and the other tech.
My movement is limited and painful so for me voice control is really helpful.
October 19, 2020 at 7:41 pm #127474Solent yes had hour and half test drive in golf today wouldn’t have one because of touch screen
Shame. To be fair, that’s all I keep reading; people put off by touch this, touch that. Give it another 6-9 months and VW will re-introduce some buttons/dials again.
October 19, 2020 at 7:47 pm #127476That’s a shame mike, as then you paying the same for an older car than a newer one. but i do understand it..
Gotta be something else that meets your main needs at the right price that might be worth having a test drive in. Did you test drive the jazz in the end..
October 19, 2020 at 7:50 pm #127477
Mike11Rox I had forgot the jazz will have a test drive next week that’s got lovely digital dash and dials I’m used to for heater fan etc

Electrically Folding Door Mirrors on sr trim and on ex they Remote Retractable Door Mirrors (Key Fob Operation) like on my civic i think.. has a button inside or use the key you lock car then press button again and hold it for a few secs, like doing windows on the golf i guess.. once they start closing though no need to hold..
Personally i’d stay away from the se trim level although is 0 ap, There’s alot to like.
on the ex as it the top trim has even a heated steering wheel and garman sat nav, minus the gcb only £299
The magic seats are useful and i know alot of ppl was complaining they not on the civic anymore. all one can do is drive it and see how it is.. ticks alot of boxes though.. plus 76.30 mpg but only 108 BHP

HarryShame the A3 aint on the scheme as they kept plenty of buttons. The Octavia kept some as well could be worth a look.
October 19, 2020 at 8:22 pm #127481
Mike11The octavia 1.0 and 1.5 deg are not on the scheme at the moment shame
October 19, 2020 at 8:24 pm #127482
Mike11I’m happy with touch screen for sat nav etc but want conventional dials for air con fan heating etc like had in my 3 golfs
October 19, 2020 at 8:25 pm #127483
Mike11It took salesman 10 mins to turn fan off this morning crazy !!!
October 19, 2020 at 8:29 pm #127484A3 is a great car hired an Audi A3 2.0 Sportback from avis prestige 3 years ago now for my sons funeral, although they tight on the extras of the one’s that was on the scheme..like acc and the ap was crazy really.

wow…I at school and back home in that time in the morning, now our 9 year old go’s in herself coz of covid.
The golf never really got warm in that time, just as well it had heated seats. So i can imagine the annoyance of not being able to adjust anything, till the info sys has booted up. Germans don’t make any smart phones and there a reason for that and they had huge isssue with the software etc for the id range.

DavidI said it before on a previous thread about the Leon Fr 2020, which is essentially the same car as the Golf etc…
I was really dissapointed with the whole car.
Exterior was meh..ok, at best.
Interior was just too gimmicky.
Once the excitement of pressing all the buttons and playing with the settings is over, you’re stuck with a car that’s been built as an after thought.
Shame really…And I know that most people will be like “Yeah, but all good things take time to get used to etc..”
Somehow, I don’t think I would with the Golf 8 or the Leon FR mk4.
Only saving grace may be the Octavia VRS if it makes it on the scheme once it’s released..A big if indeed though..
October 19, 2020 at 11:01 pm #127490Indeed David. The Golf and Leon are… … … well, pretty ‘meh’ to be honest.
Luckily though – over at the Peugeot dealership…
October 20, 2020 at 3:20 am #127491
HarryIt wont David over the 200bhp limit
October 20, 2020 at 6:57 am #127492Solent 60 would that Peugeot or the new Renault Clio e hybrid be reliable over my 3 years and 30.000 miles ?
October 20, 2020 at 10:20 am #127502Same as any car Mike, I have personally found Peugeot/Citroen to be reliable apart from the odd thing over the last 20+ years but like every car you can get a bad one, my last German car had loads of faults and left me stranded more than once and after more than half a dozen attempts at fixing still went back at the end of the lease without being fixed, I’m on my 4th one on the scheme from the PSA group and honestly haven’t had anything major go wrong (a Bosch battery failed but that’s German engineering for you).
On the other hand I would never get another Renault, too many problems to list and just looking online would steer me clear these days.
When people slag French cars off what they fail to take into account is nearly all the components in today’s cars are made by 3rd parties and are the same in whatever brand you choose, you don’t think Mercedes manufactures the micro-switch that operates their electric windows do you? It used to be shoddy build quality that generally let them down but these days they are all very close really.
October 20, 2020 at 11:39 am #127505Yes manufacturers do use third party companies to make parts and have for years but they are costed and spec d to their own vehicles otherwise you could use any Manufacturers part on any car.
Ive found with every French car I’ve owned they’re very comfortable, economical and relaxing to drive but it’s not long before they rattle, trim breaks and electrical gremlins start.A great shame because they make some great looking cars.
