Have a Golf GTD at the moment and love the car for the looks and the power.
Unfortunately have to give it back in the next 4-5 months but Mobility have said I can order a new car from now till then.
I test drove the Audi A3 35 TDI Edition 1 150PS and its a really nice car but can really feel the power difference to the GTD. Dealer mentioned that the 190PS model may come out next year but unsure when and I am not sure if it will come out on Mobility.
VW dealer only have the Golf R Line TDI 150PS available to order now but they did mention the GTD will likely come on the Mobility next year.
However I am unsure whether to bite the bullet and order the Audi A3 now firstly due to not previously being on the scheme and secondly due to potential price increases next year due to Brexit etc.

Yes picking it up next week Winston, ye looking forward to it but i need to sell a few “Big Issue” magazines to get the £2,200 AP sorted lol.
No joy on the Euromillions front, i dont use the same numbers as I would go off my head if they came up and i hadn’t puit them on so prefer to go lucky, or not so lucky, dip every time.
Hope you stay on the forum but if not and be safe and you never know about the euromillion numbers and remember you promised to buy me a villa in spain, they dont call me the elephant for nothing lol.
The only person who got all his work done by Friday was Robinson Crusoe.
Anything i post over three lines long please assume it is an article lol.December 16, 2020 at 10:10 pm #132377I bet that’s the only time you’ve been referred to as an elephant ??
Make sure you post some pics of it inside and out ??
and don’t worry, if I do scoop that Euro Millions you and Mrs B can pack your “trunk” and pick the Spanish Villa of your choice ??
have a great ( or as great as possible ) Crimbo & NY mate
And very best wishes to all the rest of regulars on the forum!
stay safe guys ??

ave learned is that after a month or so of having owned a car and played with all its gadgets etc, the only thing that makes the car still desirable is the performance. Just think…If your GTD didn’t have all that torque that shoves you back in your seat, it would just be an R Line version of the Golf. What makes these cars (GTD, Leon 184, Octavia VRS, A220d) stand out from all other similar looking models is the tarmac shredding torque that comes with them. But, hey…It’s your choice at the end of the day. Enjoy your new bog standard 150 bhp motor.
I can remap the Audi for £200 up to 190BHP and it will be even better performance than the A220D and the AP is less so works out better to do that. You get the best of both worlds.
What are the current issues with A3?
December 17, 2020 at 9:33 am #132398Harry
I wouldn’t touch a 200 quid remap with a barge pole. Any reputable remap company is double that.
The problem with that Mercedes is the interior which is shockingly bad and you need to spec the upgrade option at over 1k.
We have just ordered the Leon FR Sport 150bhp for 399… The equalivant Golf which is the R-Line you need to spec better alloys and spec heated seats which brings the price to over 1300, the equalivant A3 with specced heated seats brings the price to over 2300….. And with 90% of reviews saying the Leon is the best to drive out them all its a no brainer to go for the Seat.

It was never my intention to come across as an asshole.
Apologies if I did.
I was simply trying to explain that I have driven all of the afforementioned vehicles and I have found that despites some of Audi’s stand out features and materials used, there is no doubt that they have try to save money by cutting corners with the latest model.
Watch Carwow and you will see what I mean.
I have been driving for over 25 years. I’ve had loads of cars in my time, petrols and diesels etc…
I am now at an age where I want something comfortable, looks good and goes fairly well.
I just feel that the market is currently flooded with bog standard spec/engine cars.
And, when you’re about to pay an AP running into the ££££’s, I would want to make sure that every £ was worth it.
That’s all I was trying to say, but I realise that opening my big mouth and letting my belly rumble has made me look and sound like a right idiot.
The A3 is a lovely car. Just make sure you have test driven it extensively to ensure you know what you’ll be expecting to have for the next 3+ years.
PS….regarding the increase in power etc…I would not mess with a Motability car’s engine for any power increase.
Motabilit won’t allow it, and neither will RSA.
December 17, 2020 at 12:05 pm #132413Sometime’s david something has to give and alot of ice cars seem to be getting less powerful or dropped or being made hybrid’s because of emmisions and the eu fines coming, options are thin on the scheme right now. Ap’s are getting out of hand on some cars and some just cannot afford such high ap’s to get what they require and from whats available now or to order for 3 months time to exchange.
For me both the merc and the audi are non starters for two reasons one adaptive cruise control is part of a pack and i never add extras and secondly both dealers are too far away for general servicing etc for them to be viable, so are bmw, as well as afew other dealers.
Which is a shame as it restricts choice for me. Some maybe happy with the a180 in a high spec others may not be (like yourself) and want more power it’s really is down to the individual and sometimes hard choices have to be made taking all one’s needs into account or maybe they want the better mpg.
The last few cars for me thats been a higher seating postion that has gone to get the spec i need i gone for a car.
Comfort and having acc is the most important things to me and of course the size of the boot and is it practical for me and the family. The main thing is all our needs are different and i am glad you seen how what you said could be taken the wrong way. Is just something to be mindful of i guess.
What i would say is if a car meets your needs and ticks all your boxes then you should test drive them all then pick. often for me thats just two cars, last time it was only one car.

Totally understandable, and I just got carried away and mispoke as I have been stung in the past when I have settled for higher spec but less powerful model.
I regretted for 2 years, but couldn’t get out of the lease at the time due to the shocking cancellation fees etc.
So once again, apologies that I csme across rude in any shape or form.
I am simply wanting to make the point that once you’re done playing with all the exciting new gadgets in your new car, the car’s performance is really the only thing that keeps things interesting..But that’s for me, and I appreciate that we’re all diffefent and therefore our needs and wants are also different.
Where I live in London is just a plethora of A3s and Golfs and I was just getting sick at the sight of them, lol.
December 17, 2020 at 12:52 pm #132417or a pruis he he he
This time i went for power as well but petrol in the form of a 182 bhp honda civic sport, but i have my reasons the last few cars on the scheme have all been for better mpg as well, which saves money and sometime we all, leaveout important personal info that is key to our views and they effect our decisions and perspective.
I hired an a3 sportback from avis pristege for aweek back in 2017 for my sons funeral when i had the golf and it was good, although i really missed the acc it had normal cruise but that auto braking etc is so important for me.
Think alot of us been there, often you don’t get a test drive in the exact spec/ engine you will get and that can lead to issues and having to keep a car for whole term it then becomes a big regret. My last car was a 1.6tdi golf match edition only had 110 bhp and it did a good job apart from the seat after 20/30 mins the pain started in my back and i could not wait to get rid of it in the end.
Should of been in april but because of covid and lockdown it was june and everytime i got in it to drive, not knowing how long i would have to keep it for was hard to take. So i’d not get another with those seats.
