excess mileage charges

Having read some topics on this forum regarding delays on vehicles, how does this effect excess mileage charges?

For example, if you have a motabilty car and have done 60000 miles in 3 years but your new car has taken longer to come, motability say to use the car until the new one arrives. How much mileage are we allowed to do in the vehicle? What if it takes an extra 2 months to arrive but you decide to go up and down the country and rack up 6000 miles? is the mileage worked out on monthly basis?

Unless someone has first hand recent experiences with this I think this may be one for Motability.

My advice would be call Motability as soon as you think this might happen.  My car will be 39 months and 61,000 by the time my new car finally turns up (no prizes for guessing it’s a Tiguan).  I spoke to Mota and explained the situation and they were very helpful and said that I won’t have to pay anything.  During the conversation, the agent said the rule of thumb is 54 miles/day so I think so long as you are within those limits you will be OK.

As far as I am aware any miles over 60,000 are charged at 5p per mile so your 6000 miles would be charged at £300.Having said that I know people that have exceeded their mileage allowance in the 3 years but I have never known anyone who has actually been charged.

Actually I have just checked and it is correct, 5p per mile over 60,000
