A lot of it down to tyres as a fwd with good tyres can outperform AWD as shown here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfuE00qdhLA

2012 Vauxhall Antara
2013 Skoda Superb Estate
2016 Seat Alhambra
2020 Seat Tarraco
2021 Ford Kuga
2024 Nissan X-TrailJanuary 30, 2021 at 4:28 pm #138191Many years ago I had a Mk2 1.6 Escort auto. Had a set of Vredstein M&S tyres for winter as I lived on top of a steep hill out in Kent countryside. Never let me down, always kept going even when neighbours’ 4x4s gave up. So have to agree with Mr HoneyMonster. That said, more recently had a Skoda Superb diesel 4×4. That also kept going in the white stuff even with “standard” tyres.

I have the Tiguan Allspace which has a snow setting and it was marvellous in the 8/9 inches of snow a few weeks ago.
I was even more impressed as it has summer tyres fitted as standard.

Same here, although ours is the normal Tiguan. The snow mode was brilliant and worked very well with the 4WD and DSG. Didn’t miss a beat. I was very surprised as I didn’t expect it to be that good.
